  • well i have just moved to pre-paid from M2M and confirmed not ETC or fees.

    • Now I'm waiting for a nasty surprise. If it goes to shit I'll revert back if I can.

  • So I just did the online change over to MTM and it now says this : Plan early termination charge$0.00
    Device buy out$0.00

    • yup so your now on M2M, you can cancel or go to pre-paid if you want.

      • just switched to M2M via clothoo's way this morning. It was good not ETC
but received a $65 bill for 2 days usage of JB Telstra Plan…

I think they are trying to fix the loophole, as Nest Hub has been fixed.

        • So do it before they notice. I got 2 nests too.

        • I haven’t received a bill and did it yesterday.

It should be pro rated so complain

        • +2

Telstra charge in advance (read T&C). You will need to pay and they will refund next bill

  • Has someone been able to exchange phone with another phone from different store?

    • They will refuse unless you are very lucky. The IMEI is tied to the deal, like an allocation.

It is no longer 'brand new' once applied as far as their store inventory goes.

    • Was able to exchange for the $999 S10 512gb yesterday

      • at which store?

      • did they refund you $50 then?

  • Has anyone been able to get this deal with a Pixel 4 since Friday?
Possibly only the S10e has been extended to the 6th?

    • Was told only S10e and P30 are available

  • Pixels aren't locked to Telstra? Night get one for myself and Mrs tomorrow

  • No pixels available now, finished 30th, now have a couple of useless Vodafone sims

  • Hi fellows
As per the method provided by clothoo on 29/10/2019 - 13:57
Can anyone confirm if you are charged ETC?
    TIA

    • Blueberry confirmed it a few comments back but I asked support about that way and they said would still have fees. So might be worth trying through support first so you have evidence of fee being waived just in case.

      • Yeah support says there would be fees as I said "it should be $390 + $50 since the ETC + new plan monthly costs."
but it show's $0 + new monthly plan"

  • Anyone know if you can get a Vodafone number with just a $2 Sim card? Or do you have to recharge

    • +2

Pretty sure it needs to be active to work, I just got a $10 Optus sim from woolies

    • +2

Get Amaysim, doesnt need a recharge.

    • Coles/Optus SIM $2 doesn't need a recharge to receive SMS.

      • Might be a silly question…

So you don't need to recharge to be able to use SMS?

        Same with all providers?

        • I didn't need to recharge to receive sms or receive phone calls. So $2 for a new Coles/Optus number.

Some Sims require you to recharge to actually get a number (Vodafone I think from the comments here). So $2 Sim and $10 recharge.

  • anyone found a good screen protector that goes edge to edge?

  • Okay so I did the huawei p30 deal about two month ago. Standard procedure: ported-in, changed to month to month, ported-out.

Today I went to JB(a different store from last time)and the sale representative refused to do the deal for me.

He grabbed my driver license, logged into my account then told me it would be a lost on the business if he were to do it for me, as I had ported in and then quickly ported out.

I was wondering, am I on the black list or just this particular rep is on ozbargain too? Anything like this happened to you guys?

    • +3

I would say this guy has good intuition and business sense.

as I had ported in and then quickly ported out.

He can see your account and previous ports, there's no need for him to be on Ozbargain to know what your plan is.

      • Ye that's true.
Just I assume people will not be bothered to look into that.

    • Oh no. Did you pay for the ETC last time with the huawei deal?

      • Nope. I actually used for 1.5 months before I ported out. Anyway, no ETC.

    • Other than the reasons stated, would the MRO increase so soon after you've used it (assuming MRO of 1 and dropped to 0)?

      • I have no idea what MRO is. But I think the refusal was based on the rep's judgment not any number on the account.

  • +1

Just received my Telstra bill. $65 plan to M2M cost me $2.90. So the P4 cost me $201.90.

    • +1

how long did it take for you to receive the bill?

      • I week today.

    • Does it have the JB plan on the bill or M2M? I would suspect it has JB.

      • Just JB plan.

        • Same as mine. We won't know what the final cost is until we get the final (M2M) termination bill, may be this month or months.

We may have to rely on chat transcripts and ref numbers in there are any nasty surprises.

    • are you one of the ones who cancelled on the app or via chat??

      • Juliank did it via chat.

        • how do you know that? has he mentioned this before?

        • Correct.

          • @juliank: well you are one of the lucky ones, as someone else in the previous page posted that his friend+wife used the clothoo method to cancel and they got charged etc of 390 dollars. that is also not a confirmed method, only confirmed method to this day is the online chat for the simple reason that you get the transcript as proof.

            • @striker5950: Agreed. I was prepared to pay the ETC.

            • @striker5950: The clothoo method contains the following on order details:

              Add Plan Contract Cancellation Waiver

How is that different to a chat confirmation?

              • +2

@JohnHowardsEyebrows: I can confirm both of their order says "Add Plan Contract Cancellation Waiver" but still got charged. But the when disputed the charges they were told you went from ineligible plan so charges stand. Tried every single trick to get out or get any credit but none worked including magic word TIO at the end..

                • @whatif: I did the clothoo method and received my bill today. $4 (JB Plan 1 day) + (M2M 1 day). I changed to pre-paid so not sure if that made a difference. Won't be surprised if I get a second bill with the ETC, fingers crossed through

                • @whatif: Sorry, are you saying that you did clothoo's method and got charged ETC?

Was that on a recent bill? JB plan or M2M bill? Did you keep, port out or cancel your M2M plan?

              • @JohnHowardsEyebrows: the difference is a chat transcript confirming multiple times that there is no etc which has held true %100 no etc to this day, vs the clothoo method which someone followed and still got an etc, im not saying it does not work, im saying its a hit and miss

                • @striker5950: I swapped to M2M via chat and have only received the small JB bill so far. I'm not sure it can be "…held true %100 no etc to this day…" until we receive the final termination bill of the service for that number/account.

                • @striker5950: Someone who changed to M2M via chat just got hit with the ETC, read their comment chain here. Waiting for them to confirm if they got out of it using the transcripts as evidence

                  • @Chillzy: ok i checked it, well atleast with the chat transcript you do have a fighting chance, but with the self cancellation thing you really dont, because it says you get charged an etc, but than when you click on another tab more info it says no etc, so this can be used as an excuse the way i see it while the chat transcript is loud and clear and one answer which is no etc. that can be used at the TIO

                    • +2

@striker5950: But when we do the checkout there is no mention of ETC as it says "$0 one off fee + M2M Plan chosen".

Live chat rep said it should say "$390 one off fee + M2M Plan chosen"

                      • @Rakddon: honestly idk at this point its a waiting game and who is willing to dispute any charges vs those who will just end up paying the etc charge.

                        • +2

@striker5950: I did it online/app and have screenshots for each step I did just in case they want to dispute it.
No where does it mention the ETC when doing the process/checkout.

Yes it does show ETC $390 but under more information it says $0.

                          • @Rakddon: ''Yes it does show ETC $390 but under more information it says $0.'' yeh thats the part im worried they might use against you vs a chat where they deny any etc charges when asked multiple times, coming from a human support officer who is suppose to be representing the company.

                            • +1

@striker5950: Their system waived the ETC so it's not our fault if we process the order with that information on screen at the time of submission as we technically didn't have any idea as it didn't show on the screen upon checking out.

    • Did you get the hubs?

      • Yes.

  • Anyone else still waiting for port over since day 1 of promotion? JB and Telstra have done nothing to help

    • i waited 5 days. I hopped onto Twitter and started a private chat with Telstra.

      Got fixed the next day.

      • Thanks I'll do some more digging

        • have you got an update on that? My wife has been waiting for 2 weeks, absolute garbage service
the worst thing is that she actually wants the phone and the plan
and JB won't hand out the phone to her until its ported

          • @aBitTooEasy: it's very easy now, they got rid of the verification process with old provider sim, now it takes 1 min to process in store.

Go back and ask to re-do the order or speak with Telstra to process the order again.

  • Do we have to wait 1 month to change to prepaid from M2M?

    • +1

      No need to wait.

Is there any port out fee if I port out from m2m plan?

  • Tried to port to Boost - online activation didn't work, told me to call them since I'm currently with Telstra. Was told over the phone that they need to send me a special SIM card. Hmmm… All the folks here who switched to Boost to avoid $8 port-out fee, was it the same for you?

    • +1

Dont worry that's normal for the case where switching between Telstra and Boost.

    • Yes that is the normal process.

    • I have 2 x Boost sim cards on the way. Be sure to switch over to Telstra pre-paid plan before porting over to Boost to avoid the $8 port-out fee.

      • What happens if the port across is delayed, and then you have no credit on prepaid?

      • Hold on, so if I'm on M2M plan, I'll get the port-out fee even if I'm switching to Boost?

  • +3

Hit with $390 ETC despite confirming with chat that ETC was waived (plan changed through chat by Telstra rep)

Telstra credited it though after showing them the transcript, if I did not have that I doubt I would have got a credit.

    • Just so people know, I was told by rep that they couldn't change it without ETC but said they will guide me to do this online and I won't be charged the fees. Later next day my online order was cancelled and when I spoke to chat again and showed them the chat transcriptthey said Rep shouldn't have told you that and best I got out of that was was $194 (half) credit. Here is the importance part, I got an email regarding credit being applied to the account. Did others get an email from Telstra regarding credit being applied to the account?

      • Yep got email from Telstra regarding credit applied to account.

    • How were you hit with this? On a bill? Did the bill say JB 12 month plan or M2M (Mobile plan small, medium, large)?

      • On a second bill after I received my first bill. It came about a week after and said JB Hifi $65 12 month plan on it.

        • Did your first bill include pro-rated monthly charges for JB and M2M plan? Thanks

        • did your second bill come via email or via post?

          • @blue21: all through email, the first bill was pro rated for JB only I think

    • When you changed plans, did you get a link to an order for "Change Mobile Service"? Mine had a bunch of bullet points including "Add Plan Contract Cancellation Waiver" and "Remove Service Contract 12 Months". As of yet I have only received the JB bill for a couple of dollars. No bill for the ETC or M2M yet ….

      • I got this:

        Add 5G Network Access
        Add Mobile Plan Small
        Add Mobile Plans 06-2019
        Add Modify Order Indicator
        Add Plan Contract Cancellation Waiver
Remove 20GB Mobile Data Bonus - Until Recontract
Remove JB Hi-Fi Mobile BYO Plan $65 12 Month
Remove JB Hi-Fi Mobile Plans 09-2018
        Remove Mass Market Offers
        Remove Service Contract 12 Months

        • Did you get hit with an ETC?

        • You did the swap yourself yeah? via the app not chat?

          • +1

            @dockersrule: online/app same thing.

took screenshots of each step, especially the last page before submit which doesn't mention anything about ETCs.

Business tries to use a loophole to get out of a contract: Bloody F#%$#% ripoff scammers! How dare they rip me off? I'm going to report them to the ACCC TIO Fair Trading Today Tonight bikies!

Customer tries to use a loophole to get out of a contract: wut, just doing my thing here. If they don't budge I'm going to the TIO with my chat transcript that I hope overrides the legally-binding contract I signed. I don't care if some guy in the Philippines gets fired for saying the wrong thing, I want my $199 phone!

I get that it's all part of the game, I just hope people show the customer service reps some grace and don't get them in trouble for the sake of a deal.

    • There is absolutely nothing in the contract we first signed nor the plan change that says JB Hifi plan is ineligible for the upgrade waiver. Your point about 'overriding' a contract doesn't make sense, because by charging the fee to us (see my example above, TELSTRA is actually overriding the contract). It lists clearly plan upgrades negate the ETC fee, also it even states in the confirmation mail there is Plan Contract Cancellation Waiver.

I also don't think there are any examples of a business using a 'loophole' to get out of a contract where ozbargainers have reported them. I think its pretty well understood that a pricing error is disappointing but usually allowed in their T&C.

Even the idea that Telstra/chat reps are allowed to charge ETC in the first place even though the website lists plan changes as ETC waiving is going against what is in the contract of the old plan and the contract of the changed plan.

You have two weeks to 'patch' it, are fully aware of the issue, and you still don't do it. Don't blame the customer after you're given that much time to fix it. It STILL Shows Add Plan Contract Cancellation Waiver as well as 'upgrades waive ETC fee' on the Telstra website to this day. Nor does it say anywhere that JB Hifi is excluded

      • There is absolutely nothing in the contract we first signed nor the plan change that says JB Hifi plan is ineligible for the upgrade waiver

When I signed the original contract I was clearly told the ETC is $390. That is the contract I agreed to. If the telco willingly releases me from the contract I agreed to, then that's great! But if they don't, I won't be fighting for it because a $390 ETC is what I signed up for, especially if a poor rep in the Philippines might get fired or get a poor performance review because of it.

also don't think there are any examples of a business using a 'loophole' to get out of a contract where ozbargainers have reported them. I think its pretty well understood that a pricing error is disappointing but usually allowed in their T&C.

Ahh, maybe you haven't been browsing enough ;)
There are plenty of cases where even if a business made a pricing error, OzBargainers start lodging complaints (or thinking they can) with the ACCC (even though they don't investigate complaints from the public) and Fair Trading. There aren't even any loopholes involved - businesses are allowed to make genuine mistakes.

        Examples:
        HP pricing error
        Razer Phone pricing error
User threatening Optus with a TIO or ACCC complaint to honor a pricing error
User asking people to lodge a complaint with the ACCC after a pricing error
