Thanks! Good review for part 1.

    • +15

well there's 11:38 of my life wasted… not really telling us anything about the monitor we didn't already know.. it was just an unboxing and connecting to his laptop video.

      • +1

True, but his title is accurate "Unboxing & First Impressions"

Hopefully he releases a part 2 soon..

    • +9

      Review is a strong word.

  • Damn, didn't notice my CC has been charged until I read the above comments. Checked mine, and to rub salt into the wound, it was charged on 6/8, the original expected delivery date!

    • Same! I got charged on 9/8, used paypal.

  • Weird, i received the email saying delayed until 20/10 and it says the same thing when i track the order but a cs representative has assured me multiple time that i will receive it by 20/8.

    • Out of curiosity what day/time did you order?

      • 2/8 at mid day i think.

        • If this date is accurate, does that mean all the orders placed before noon 2/08 will get their monitors shortly. Very excited.

          • @UAT: I wasn't lucky enough to get that 20/8 shipment. Dell told me on the phone I was part of the 25th September shipment for delivery in early October, so I cancelled.

        • I ordered at the exact same time. Might have to contact Dell and see if they say the same thing

  • -2
  • I received a new email from Dell saying my delivery has been pushed out from 24th September to 19th October.

    1st email - 6th August
    2nd email - 24th September
    3rd email - 19th October

With the way it's looking, this might keep getting delayed. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a September delivery, otherwise might need to reconsider.

As with many others, I was charged a few days after the purchase (ordered 2nd, CC charged on 10th).

    • same i got this as well. really pissed

    • LMAO I got an email stating Sept 6th. I said I probably date that date and would get my order pushed but got negged. Just waiting for the email now. I saw the shipments and it doesnt seem to be a lot. If anything I will probably just pull the trigger on the LG 850.

      • YUPPP. Just as I predicted it did get delayed til 30th of September.

  • -2

Did anyone actually get theirs shipped? or just some hoax

  • They actually moved up my shipping time!

    • Same for me too they moved mine up and then delayed it back as I predicted…

  • +1

Has anyone else not received any other emails re their order? I received one on August 5 saying that it was delayed until October 19, but nothing since then (and shipping date from order details hasn't changed either).

    • same, havent received any updated shipping date since the delayed date email indicating 19/10. I wonder if the people get shipping moved forward are in cities where stock will be arriving earlier than expected.

      • Same. No further official updates since getting delayed to October 19.

I have sent email query and been told that I might be part of an August 19th shipment. But it seems uncertain. And I probably won't believe much of what any rep says until I have a tracking number.

Will keep expecting late October at this stage.

        • I had an email saying my order got moved up til 06/09 then a day later or 2 saying its pushed back to 29/09 I STILL doubt it will arrive at 29 and i bet 100% itll get delayed til October.

    • +3

      Nothing here either.

From my initial post in this thread, it looks like I ordered 2/8 just a little before midday. Order confirmation email came through at exactly midday on the 2/8.
The single "delayed" email came through on the 5/8 @ 9:15pm saying "The delivery date of your order has been updated to arrive by: oct. 19, 2020." Which reflects what is listed on the order when viewed on the website where it states "Estimated Delivery Date: 19/10/2020 (updated)".

Interestingly, unlike some other comments here, my payment was processed and completed on the 2/8.

I have not yet contacted customer service regarding the order. Personally, i'm a little annoyed about the process/situation. While I understand that the monitor was clearly a very popular item when it was listed and it clearly sold better than they were expecting. I would have thought a company as large as Dell would have been able to stop taking orders for an item they weren't going to be able to supply for 3 months. While I can't actually confirm it, and i'm more than happy to be told i'm wrong, I was fairly sure it listed the item as "in stock" when we ordered… right? or is that just not a thing Dell does? And then, the delivery lead-time, while I totally understand that "shit happenes" and if I'm pissed off, i'm more than welcome to cancel the order and get my money back and not deal with this business. This line of "Your order has been delayed. Your order is very important to us and we intend to ship it as soon as possible. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience." is a bit crap. Not actually sure what actually constitues as a "reasonable" time-frame for delivery. I mean, from their business side of things, it's a pretty sweet deal, It's almost like we are funding a kickstarter project, get everyone to pay for your product and hold their money while you make it. I'm not trying to fuel the rumors of the shady panel swaps the company has done in the past (that's obviously going to be picked up here) but still. This isn't the way the world used to work. I wish I could charge-in-full my customers 3 months in advance for work that I do.

This probably sounds a little ranty, it's not intended to be… ISO lyf I guess.

      • I don’t think Dell has anything ‘in stock’.

        • So i’m not saying that it was the case with this monitor. But, I just went to dell.com.au… and clicked the first random things that appeared in front of me… ended up on a page titled “Inspiron 14 3000 Laptop - In Stock For Fast Delivery“

@[Deactivated]: Dell AU didn't anticipate selling 1000+ of these in a day. Dell had less than 50 in stock on the day. It looks like they are trying to get stock from other region for August and early September.

Dell AU had placed a larger order (because they simply cannot get 1000 from other regions), but it looks like it will take some time to build them and have them shipped (most probably by ship - so the shipment will take ~3 weeks after they are all built). The fact that so many people elect to wait shows that most people don't need this, but just don't want to let go of a bargain.

As for charging right away, it is somewhat a double edge sword. The pre-auth was placed right away and Dell did charge within 7 days. So, why can't Dell do what Amazon does? The reason is Dell doesn't store your payment details. The pre-auth can only last 30 days max. Also, for PayPal, to charge later will require direct debit auth (which can be risky - my mate found out when his Kogan account was hacked - and he wasn't even aware he gave Kogan direct debit auth years ago when purchasing an item).

            • +3

@netsurfer: So, if your numbers are accurate, I guess my question is, why did Dell continue to sell the monitor beyond the 50 they had in stock. Is that normal practice for Dell? - I guess to answer my own question, I did a really quick and dirty google. It seems that it is indeed the way they do business.

Absolutely, I think people are hesitant to cancel (myself included) because for the money, nothing really comparable is available at the moment. I'm not sure that there is anything wrong with that.

The charging right away thing is just a shitty shift in common practice (my opinion) I guess. Since this turned into a "pre-order", I think if they cancelled all the payments, waited until they had stock then contacted their customers to pay when they were available might have been a better solution. I mean, they have to be skirting pretty close to the line when it comes to consumer law in Australia. Although, if it's as prevalent as some of the online reviews would suggest, I can't understand how they keep getting away with it.

              • @[Deactivated]:

why did Dell continue to sell the monitor beyond the 50 they had in stock

Because they could get about a couple of hundreds from other regions in August. Also, this happened on a weekend. Most importantly, Dell under-estimated OZBers.

I think if they cancelled all the payments, waited until they had stock then contacted their customers to pay when they were available might have been a better solution.

Let's be honest here, most people are not eligible for the second code (in fact, a small number of orders were rejected because of that). First code, the initial terms and conditions stated only certain monitors are eligible. Those also contribute why most people are willing to tolerate this.

Technically, Dell did a pre-auth first. The commit was done after they informed everyone about the delay (and if you contacted CSR, there is a good chance the CSR asked you whether you want to proceed). However, looks like once committed, the transaction got backdated to the order date.

Another thing is that PayPal, honestly, it is not that simple and PayPal is a bit shady when it comes to transaction cancellation - let's just leave it at that.

  • Got the 19/10 email. CS told me it'd probably be mid September. Latest email stating 2/10..

  • Got email stating my order moved up to the 6th of September and didn't believe it for a second. Just received another emailing saying another shipment date for the 25th of September and delivery on the 30th of September but why do I still not believe it? Delayed til October 20th is what I'm guessing.

  • Anyone know if this mount stand will fit for this monitor? https://www.amazon.com.au/North-Bayou-Monitor-Computer-14-3l…

    • Monitor is 4.5kg without stand and has Vesa 100x100mm mounting holes - https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_elect…

    • I have that model of monitor arm, however it's the updated version which holds 9kg. I have monitors heavier than the stated weight of this Dell monitor and they're fine - no sag and little movement. On the data document for the Dell monitor it says 100mm Vesa mount. The North Bayou takes 100mm Vesa mount.

      • Thanks, also I just realised the mount space behind the monitor is a square shape so while the Bayou has an atypical shape, do you think it will still fit?

        • +1

Yeah my other Dell monitor is the same, I don't think there will be any issues.

  • Just got an email out of nowhere.

    Hi (removed),

    Good day to you.

(Order No.) is for the 1 unit of Dell 27 Gaming Monitor - S2721DGF.

The stocks are expected to arrive by October 2nd

Kindly advise if you are ready to wait .

I replied that I was more than happy to wait. It appears to me they're trying to gauge people who are waiting and ween out those who want refunds, so they don't make sum 1,000 monitors then encounter an influx of cancellations.

  • +12

    https://www.rtings.com/monitor/suggestions

Vote for this monitor to be reviewed!

    • Great idea, might get reviewed before delivery ^_^

  • +1

So just to add to the fun a Dell CSR emailed me saying I am in a September shipment and will be receiving mine early October. No solid dates so I’ll take it with a grain of salt. Not too fussed about waiting, my own fault really after probably being one of the earlier orders on the Saturday then cancelling my order to take advantage of the ECU5 code. End up with no Cashback because of it and a decent wait for it. Karma baby!

    • Can I get cash back if I use only the AUAFFILIATES15 code? For some reason cashrewards didn’t track my purchase using only this code.

      • -2

No, if you used any codes, cashback will be denied so you didnt miss out on anything.

        • +2

Actually no, the early buyers will have the cashback honoured if they only used the first code

*All tracked sales utilising code AUAFFILIATES15%OFF on its own from 01/08/20 to 03/08/20 will have cashback honoured (as a one-off).
*All tracked sales utilising code ECU5, on its own or in combination with any other code, will have cashback declined (as per the terms re unlisted codes).
Use of code AUAFFILIATES15%OFF from 04/08/20 onwards will not be honoured and cashback will be declined.
*All valid purchases that tracked at 3% have now been adjusted to 6% in your Cashrewards accounts.

          • @DoesntEvenMatter: Thank you, I have submitted a claim. Hopefully cashrewards will track it and give me cash back :)

            • @Lionchu: Unlikely to do it after the fact since it was a goodwill gesture from them already. I thought it already tracked for you. No harm in trying

          • @DoesntEvenMatter: Wonder when they changed that. I guess TA asked them to allow it as he said he was going to reach out.

      • Depends on when you bought it. Look at my comment above

  • I bought 2 early on Saturday 1st August. Order updated to 4th September shipping with an ETA on the 8th September. 3 weeks to go :D

    • Lucky! I ordered pm 1/8, paid via PP and still have an ETA for 22/10

    • Can you keep us updated if you receive them :)

      • +1

        Definitely. Will do.
I am still on track to receive them on the 8th.

      • Received them last Thursday 17th. Week and a bit after ETA but nonetheless very very happy with them. Definitely worth the wait. No dead pixels.

  • Got an email re-confirming delivery by 18th Oct, also asking me if I was "okay to wait".

  • Just had another email from Dell advising fulfillment on 25/9 and delivery by 30/9.

  • I got an email from Dell with an updated ETA for 1st September for my monitor BUT the order number and name is a different! WTF lol.

    • What time did dell send you the email?

      • +1

2:40am. I’ve replied and requested an ETA for MY order number so I expect to get another one.

        • +1

Got an update for MY order.
          Fulfillment date 28th Aug.
          ETA 1st Sep.
          :)

          • +1

@Lionchu: Nice! Did you have to call/email them to get the update? What day/time did you order the monitor?

            • +1

@Steve238: Yes I had to call Dell and they told me the ETA on the phone and said they'll also send an email.
              I ordered 01/08 5pm.

    • +1

SAME LOL I got this email though

ETA was 06/08, 20/10, xx/09 and now this

Unfortunately the order is still on hold due to monitor part shortages due to high demand. The parts are expected to be fulfilled by 19 thof Sept 2020. The order will be delivered within 4-5 days once the parts are fulfilled.

Once the order is shipped you can track your order through the below link

      with a different order number.

  • Nothing on my end, still says 21st Oct delivery. Ordered lunch time of 2nd August.

  • Hopefully deliver just before Christmas .

    • along with a new RTX 3090 :)

  • To those getting updated delivery estimates, did you contact Dell prior?

    • I contacted Dell and still have the same date - 19/10 haha

      • For me I had to call to get an ETA update.

    • Yep, was like pulling teeth to get through to a rep but worth it in the end to snag an earlier fulfillment date. Lots of people have tried since to get an earlier fullfillment date but they're full.

  • Thinking of pulling the trigger with an LG 27GL850, other than the price, is there much difference between the two?

    • +1

Main difference is 165hz vs 144hz. They use the same panel so if you can get one at a reasonable price then you can't really go wrong. Where are you buying it from/how much?

      • SE has them for $799 seems to be the cheapest place I can find them.

    • From the few reports of the Dell monitor, it seems IPS glow and BLB is a little less prevalent. It's one issue I dislike about the LG. The Dell seems like the better monitor in general but it hasn't been properly reviewed yet so it's hard to say.

  • Thinking about cancelling. Anyone know how it compares to ASUS TUF VG27AQ? Looks to be pretty similar specs. Worth waiting for the Dell or drop another $200 and get this?

    • Wait for this.

    • +1

I cancelled my Dell order and grabbed a VG27AQ from Scorptec. It was delivered in 5 days via Auspost and I've been using it for the last few weeks.

  • +1

I have been watching this space silently sine a week. Today got a update an update on status and its says "Confirmed: In Production". So, thought to start contributing to this awesome community of ozbargain!

    Order Confirmation: 1 Aug, 8pm
    Card charged on: 6th Aug
ETA: 19th Oct (earlier 6th Aug)
    CSR ETA: Mid September

Desperately waiting for this, If i get similar offer then thinking to just cancel it.

    • +3

Mine had said confirmed - in production since maybe a day or two after I purchased, and I bought at around the same time as you.

In the same boat waiting though, literally got every other component of my new PC arriving recently and just have the monitor..

  • +13

    We did it!

rtings has purchased the monitor to review. Thanks to all the voters.

  • I got a email from Dell CSR saying the parts will be delivered on 28/09, then will be delivered to me after that date. Most likely mine will be delivered in Oct.

  • +1

Eve just gave an update on the progress of their Spectrum monitor. Can’t decide if I should cancel my S2721DGF order and wait a little longer for the Eve Spectrum instead. I hope the reviews of both will come out in time to help me choose.

    • Which variant & price?

      • 4K 144hz, reserved at USD $649

        • Hey mate, so was doing a little research, because I hadn't heard of this monitor.

Have you got any concerns over this "Eve" brands previous… "problems"? One of the first things I saw was a couple of youtube videos about some problems they had with some "surface killer" tablet they made in the past.
Unboxedtherapy dude made a video about it. And you don't need to seearch long to turn up info on people that didn't get things delivered that they paid for.

I've already mentioned up higher in this post, i'm not entirely fond of the "pay now - recieve when we feel like it" model some tech business seem to be moving too. So maybe it's just me that crowdfunding thing isn't going to work for.

Already, there seems to be a bit of negative information out there already about this spectrum montor too.

          https://www.reddit.com/r/evev/comments/gsq679/eve_is_lying_a…

Probably best to just browse the sub-reddit on them. https://www.reddit.com/r/evev/

So I dunno, I kinda wish I did this with Dell, before commiting to this purchase (thanks ozbargain!).

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: Oh yea I've seen all the negative info re what happened with the Eve V. I don't doubt there were some serious issues. It may seem counterintuitive but it's actually why I'm taking a punt and putting a deposit down. Because Eve is on thin ice they can't afford to screw up big time again, if they do they'll never recover.

The deposit for the spectrum is refundable, at this stage the worst case scenario is I'll have to fight for the refund back if I don't want the monitor anymore. But Eve know all eyes are on them, they'll want to come through on this.

Also the progress on the spectrum so far does seem promising so I'm slightly more optimistic. But if i get the S2721DGF anytime soon heck might be happy to just wait a few more years for the price of a 4k 144hz IPS panel to come down

    • +2

Never heard about it, looks good. And, it’s being crowdfunded just like this dell!

  • +2

Interesting… I just saw my order is being shipped, despite having an ETA changed to 19/10. I ordered on the 1/8 around 3pm.

    • +2

Just checked. Mine is also marked as shipped. No notification email though.

Matches the first shipment of August 19 that reps had mentioned.

My estimated delivery still says "18/10/2020 (updated)".

      And I ordered approx 3:00pm, August 1

      • Me too, but no official shipping email.

      • Received an email update from rep I had previously spoken to.

        Provided tracking number.

Scanned with StarTrack at ~5PM today in Sydney. ETA 25/08.

  • I ordered on late on 1/8. Initial 6/8 delivery date.

Got one email saying delayed to 19/10.

No further messages, hasn't been shipped as of this post :(

    • +1

Same here, but I haven't bothered to reach out to Dell. Feels like they're prioritising people that have contacted.

      • They are not. A CSR only checks the status with the fulfilment team for you (if that CSR is helpful, if not, he/she will just send an e-mail to that team and may or may not get back to you). Most people contacting Dell are getting 28/9 as an unofficial revised date because that's around the time Dell will get 1000 of these monitors. There is no real way to find out whether that's correct or fulfilment team members were fed up and just replied with that date.

How many people will cancel their orders if Dell failed to dispatch their orders on 28/9? Some CSRs gave out misinformation about when people will be charged. Some people griped about being charged, but most of them are still keeping their orders.

  • Due date, 19/10
    Two monitors
    One shipped today
    One didn’t ship today

    • When did you order?

      • Lunchtime on the Saturday
