Sorry if this is a repost but with the release of the new Flight Simulator I thought I'd post it for those that don't know.
Note: This only works if you don’t currently have any active subscriptions ~~and haven’t already used the $1 upgrade/trial on your account yet.~~
Edit: Thanks to ShortyX, It seems like you may be able to do the $1 conversion more than once provided that it has already expired.
Edit 2: It seems like if you've already done the $1 conversion/trial, it will cost you $15.95 to do the conversion the second time.

Steps are as follows:

Create Xbox AU account here: https://www.xbox.com/en-AU (or use existing).
Get 12 month Xbox Live subscriptions here for $34: https://www.g2a.com/en-au/xbox-live-gold-subscription-card-1…
I purchased from the "Floatingclouds" seller. BACK IN STOCK
Get a Brazillian VPN. If the one you have doesn't work in Step 5 (my paid SurfShark one gave me errors when redeeming), try this free Chrome Extension (G2A seller recommended this one and it worked): https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/free-vpn/jcbiifklm…
Connect to Brazil VPN and go to https://redeem.microsoft.com/. Login to your Microsoft/Xbox account if not already. (I opted to login to my Microsoft account with a one-time code sent to my email rather than using my password as a precaution while using a sketchy VPN/extension.)
Repeat redemption for all of the codes. I had to try a couple times for each one as the VPN is free and slow, I think it times out. Note: Make sure you don’t opt-in to automatic renewal for the 1 bonus month. This will prevent you from redeeming the 3rd 12 month pass.
Once you have redeemed as many as you want (max of 3 for 36 months), you can then opt to “upgrade” to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for $1. I did this in the Microsoft account/subscriptions page, but I think you can also do it here: https://www.xbox.com/en-AU/live/gold/upgrade. Note: Don't use the VPN for this part.

Hopefully that's clear enough. Not sure how much longer this offer is going to be around for so I'd probably jump on it if interested. If I've missed any steps or there are better VPN's/key prices let me know and I'll update the post. Cheers!

Funny, after floatingclouds back in stock I added 1, payment went thru on my cc, but G2A still shows a timer countdown. Then they called me to verify. I think it must have triggered some security measures to see so many Australian IPs buying Brazil XBOX cards in multiple transactions :D After the call the transaction completed.

  Happy with scoring 2x ie 24mths, redeemed successfully. Instead of using a VPN I spun up an Azure VM in the Brazil region - using free Azure trial credits :)
  
  The cheapest offer is now $42 so hopefully the seller known to OP's comes thru with more stock, otherwise I'm happy with 24mths.

Thanks OP! Purchased through CDKeys at $42 as original seller was out of stock. However, didn't read your instructions carefully enough and made the stupid mistake of opting in for automatic renewal for the bonus month so I can't redeem my third 12 month code. Thanks OP! Bought 3 years for myself and 3 years for my son at the original price about an hour ago. My upgrade was $1 but my sons will be $15.95. Even if Gold multiplayers is free by the end of the year, 3 years of games catalogue for $100ea is a steal.

    So right now I’m $232 out of pocket for 36 months, which still isn’t that bad, but hopefully PayPal will sort out the Gamivo issue.

Can confirm this works, my live expired 3 days ago so i was able to give this a go

      My put in my card details and stuck on "waiting for payment" page. been about 30-45 mins so i think its a nogo. my VPN from brazil was active and I was asked for the brazilian tax number (which I spoofed using the generator the other commenter provided).

        @catbarf: No worries. I don't really know what else to suggest. Have you tried signing out completely and back in? Maybe log back in on your phone or another device and make sure you're on the AU store? Otherwise you might just have to contact support.

        @BaiDamTing: The solution is to buy a 1 month ultimate pass (not trial pass) from CD keys. Add that and it will convert.
        
        The long story is I had the same problem as I changed my Microsoft account to UK as I tried to redeem a global game code and it didn’t work, and the seller told me this was because my region and language (EnglishUK and location Aust) had to be the same (not true, it was not a global code I was able to redeem with a VPN)
        After messing around for an hour to redeem this code I left it as Microsoft uk. 2 months later I used the Brazil Xbox live code and added it to my uk account and then could not upgrade to ultimate with the $1 trick. I tried to pay via the uk but they need a card natively in pounds , I tried to change my paypal address to the uk and pay in pounds but that that still didn’t work. And as a Hail Mary I bought a 1 month ultimate pass from CD keys redeemed it and it upgraded my subscription. Best of luck

        @Iggemo: I have contacted support twice and I was told:
        
        the code does not have a region attached to it for it to work, you need to migrate your microsoft profile to the correct region (which microsoft does not know) and then it should work. Apparently my region was set to UK in profile settings but apparently that does not matter.
        
        You have 36 months of Xbox live and Ultimate adds an extra month which is not possible and to wait for 1 month.
        
        What are other people saying to get microsoft to fix the issue?

        To recap:
        1. I did what the deal initially said, but on the final step was getting the PUR-ConversionBlockedCurrencyCountryMismatch error
        2. Saw Shef3000's post and bought the 1 month game pass ultimate code
        3. Tried to apply, still getting PUR-ConversionBlockedCurrencyCountryMismatch for applying the Global code (which didn't make sense to me but whatever)
        
        To fix this, as weird as it seems, I downloaded the Android Xbox app. I signed in, redeemed the code for 1 month ultimate in the app (which looked identical to the web redemption process) and somehow it worked!
        
        I have a feeling that you can probably pay the $1 upgrade in the app also, but I haven't tried this as by that point I had already bought the 1 month gamepass ultimate key.
        
        Very happy as I thought I had pissed away $150 to get xbox live when what I really wanted was Game Pass. Thanks to everyone on this Deal, from the OP with the original to catbarf detailing the problem to Shef3000 with the start of a workaround. People like you keep cheapskates like me smiling.

    Since you have activated 36 months of the Xbox Live Gold subscription which is the period limitation of any monthly service on an Xbox Live account. It will not be possible to purchase the Ultimate for now, so you will have to wait until a month has passed so you will be able to convert it.

        I think the mistake I made was initially setting my region to brazil instead of Australia. I've changed my region ( can only do this once every 90 days) to Australia now and will wait out a month…
