Get 10% Cashback Every Saturday in December (Max $30 Back Per Transaction) Using Tap & Pay @ Zip

8761

There seems to be a lot of confusion based on the comments so let me try and clarify how this works:

  1. Sign up to Zip Pay. Not Zip Money. You can use the 'Related Offers' at the bottom of this description for new signup options. Note that you must provide your email address or phone number if you want a referral, there’s no referral link and you can’t be referred without that info!
  2. Download the Apple or Android app and sign in with your details. You will need a smartphone with NFC.
  3. Go to the "Cards" tab within the Zip app. Click on Add to Apple Wallet (or Google Wallet if using android).
  4. Go to any store that accepts tap & go on credit/debit cards. Do not ask if they accept Zip Payment as this is a separate payment method.
  5. Purchase anything (any gift cards, services, goods, literally anything) and checkout with Apple Pay or Google Pay by tapping your digital Zip card on Saturday. Do not spend more than $300 in one transaction if you want to maximise your benefit as you won't get 10% back above $300!
  6. You should see the rewards balance reflected under "Rewards" within the "Your Zip" tab of the app immediately.
  7. Once you have reached $30 in credit, click on the redeem button to apply the credit to your account.
  8. Pay off your Zip account by linking a credit card to earn points and defer payment (The screen says debit card but many have confirmed credit cards to work as well - Amex will not work). It takes 3 days for processing payments to finalise and you cannot make additional payments sooner than that.
Things to note:
  • Applying for a Zip account will trigger a credit check.
  • Redeemable once you've reached $30 in credit (I.e. Min spend $300)
  • Rewards balance will continue accruing even if you don't redeem $30.
  • There's no daily limit. The only limit is your credit limit.
  • Apple Pay and Google Pay don't have a $100 tap and pay limit like normal cards. The limit is unlimited since you biometrically authenticate yourself at the time of payment.
  • You cannot prepay your zip account via BPAY so that it goes into credit. I contacted Zip and they informed me that since they’re not a bank they’re not allowed to hold deposits. If you prepay your account you will be breaching their T&Cs and your account may get blocked. It will take a few days to unblock. Do so at your own risk, some have reported success while others have confirmed they got blocked.
  • You cannot make payments online.
  • Max $30 back per transaction.
  • Excludes Westfield gift cards purchased from Westfield
  • On days other than Saturday, you can still earn 3% or 5% cash back that will accrue towards your rewards balance.
  • Within a twenty-four (24) hour period, you (a) are limited to redeeming your Reward Goal eight (8) times, and (b) will not earn any further credit back if you spend $4,000 or more.
  • 10% back on Super Saturdays will override all other cashback offers with lower % back.
  • By end of 8 January 2021, any credit back that has not reached the Reward Goal will be cancelled.

This.. waiting for boxing day sales too.

      • Yeah this has been what I’m thinking just not sure whether I should go with eBay or Amazon. Does anyone know if the Amazon gift cards will work on Amazon.com?

        • +1

No but you should be able to buy from the Au account a US shipped item. Would wanna check its global warranty tho

    • +1

Ok I’m gonna drop 500 on Amazon gift cards, pray for me. I get a bit through Amazon so if I strike out on a Boxing Day deal I’m sure there’ll be something else I use them for.

  • I just received a notification that stated it you receive $10 cashback on your first transaction. Might be useful for some.

    • Yep spend $200 get $20 back + $10 credit enough to redeem the $30 reward goal.

      • Does the $10 count towards the $30 reward? I would have thought it is an automatic cash back applied on its own rather than having to wait for $30 to redeem.

  • Now got about 1800 bucks in Amazon credit. Wondering when i'll use it!

    • +1

      Christmas/ boxing days sales perhaps

      • +5

Given up on ebay, taken me years to get through my 10 or 15% gift cards there.
        Plus they expire! Amazon don't

        • Best part for me is you can add them straight to your account and keep a credit balance.

Annoying on eBay you need to keep the codes/cards somewhere.

  • If your credit card provider supplies extra warranty, would paying off your zip purchase count?

    • I don't believe so - for AMEX it has to be paid in full with the card

    • No

  • I see Woolworths gift cards on the list but it should work if I buy eBay gift cards from woolies right?

    • +2

Woolies giftcard is now almost limited to purchase goods and services from Woolworths group so pretty useless if you want want to convert to other giftcard. Coles myer is the better alternative.

      • Cheers, WW seems to have better variety in my area. Will be using for food over next few months

  • What is the nature of using credit doing zippay repayment - balance transfer?

    Will it generate rewards point?

    • If it's balance transfer, than most cc won't will you rewards points on this. Mine is with ANZ

  • Yes

  • Need suggestion - My QLD Rego is due ($350) - what is the best way to get 10% cb? Transport dept is not open on Saturdays so can't go there and pay. I see Coles MasterCard is upto $250 only and not sure if I want to gamble with AusPost MasterCard (the ones with 5.95 fee) - they may not work on transport dept website (has anyone tried)? I was able to load Coles MC in Sniip app so might be able to load other prepaid Visa/MC cards there and pay but not sure. Suggestions please! :)

    • +1

Can’t you pay your rego at Auspost? That’s what I did with my VicRoads one.

      Edit: directly with Zip Pay

      • So you paid Vic Roads rego at Auspost and tap and Zip?

        • Yep, earlier this morning.

          • @squarepants: Did they allow split payment…considering its max 300 per transaction

            • +1

@avitherock: They did allow split transactions of $300 value each. Staff at the PO I went to were really nice.

              • @squarepants: Did they have a fee to pay at auspost like they normally do for online payments ?

      • Let me try. Will report back.

      • This worked. Thanks a lot.
There was a huge rush so i did not bother with doing split payment so lost few buck of cashback (which anyway I would have lost in Gift card payment fees) - something is better than nothing. Plus couple of bucks of visa surcharge.
My utility bills only the other hand did not work - service provider restricted to EFTPOS and cash. I think i have seen EFTPOS cards sold at Coles/Woolies so can I purchase them and use it to pay the utility bills at AusPost?

        • +1

Nice. Good to hear. I had to split mine a few times due to higher costs.

And yeah my utility ones couldn’t be paid either as the provider did not take cc payment via auspost I believe was the issue.

  • +1

I can confirm eftpos gift card (theperfectgiftcard) works to pay city rates. As long you choose saving when the option pop up after you swap the card.

  • Does the $15 sign up spending $50 promotion stack with the 10% cashback?

  • I stuffed this up. Just registered and bought something > $300 but it looks like I didn't register for the 10% part. How can I get this reward added retrospectively? Do I need to call them?

    • -1

Just use a time machine and get tonight's lotto numbers while you're at it

    • U don’t need to specially register

How did u pay for it. If the answer is not Apple Pay, or tap and go, it won’t qualify

    • You need to add the Zip card generated by the app into your Apple Pay/Google Pay and use it to do the purchase.
Don't fret, you still have $700 + $90 to go (if you have $1000 account limit).

    • I tried to use the zip tap in store, but it said 'bad card read', so in a panic I swapped to Generate Barcode. Apparently this does not qualify as I spoke to Zip Helpdesk. Cried Noob and pleaded to get it added (..well not pleaded, but kindly asked..). They may honour but no guarantees. Up to accounts department discretion. Thanks.

    Hi All,

Have a silly question, if I go for this deal, will it work with iphone 7? And also will this hurt my credit score? As I just applied for a home loan. Also I already have an Amex card with apple pay.

How does tap and go integrate?

And how do I pay zip off or is that done straight away on my amex? And are there any fees or catches using this tap and pay service? And lastly how do I get the cashback?

    • Yes.
      Probably.
The app generates a card for you to add to your wallet aka Apple Pay.
You can pay the Zip balance with BPAY, Visa, or Mastercard, NO AMEX.
The cashback is instant and is used to help you pay back the Zip balance in increments of $30.
Read the rest of the terms yourself. Seeing how popular this deal is, you should know better whether there are hidden catches.

    • Affects credit score.
If you have been approved for home loan, why would it matter?
Set zip pay for as default Apple Pay wallet card.
Zip pay first. U can’t use Amex to pay off zip.
Cash back is automatically accumulated then u just redeem it in lots of $30 ($300 spend)

  • Thanks guys for the info

  • Redeemed $30 rewards from eBay gift cards and $30 for Woolworths. When will they ask me to pay the $600 I owe ZIP?

    • +1

It should just pop up under transactions but most likely will be pending for a few days. After that you can pay them back via "make additional payment".

      • Cheers. It shows that a $40 payment is due in 70 days. Is that part of the $600 I owe? So they ask me to pay it all in regular intervals?
        Guess that’s what BNPL means!

        • Yes you are given the option to pay month to month. But if you want to keep getting gift-cards plus the 10% cashback you need to pay your balance week to week

  • I bought something fr$100 last Saturday using the zip card and the amount was in pending for a few days and the amount was settled to the merchant on the 16th. so, zippay added the transaction date as 16th and not 12th.
So, my 10% was not credited.
Did this happen to anyone else?

    • If you only did $100, you only get $10 credit. You can only redeem when it gets to $30, i.e. minimum spend $300.
The reward is instant at the time of purchase, not on the day of settlement. Check your app again.

  • Thanks. Zipped a $100 TCN online giftcard. ALso got a $10 bonus for first time tap & pay with zip. $10 to go

  • When it comes to repayment, do you just link/use a normal credit card and the credit card doesn't see it as cash and charge a cash advance fee?

    • Best to use debit card in case of cash advance

      • I thought it was tested above that it won't count as a cash advance?

        • Ymmv depends on card.

          • @Jimothy Wongingtons: For my ANZ cards it has not been counted as a cash advance. No cash advance fee, and earning rewards points on the payments.

    • Using CBA card to pay Zip - counts as normal purchase NOT cash advance

  • Btw, how's the rewards work? I thought it's going to substract from total balance but not iny case (pending state). Thanks

    • Have you redeemed your rewards?

      • Yes, i thought it will auto deduct from total balance

        • Just shows up as available to spend..
You won't have a balance until transactions are settled

  • Thought super Saturday was supposed to override other rewards.
Just dropped $1000 on gift cards, only $700 is listed as super Saturday…

  • $7.95 purchase fee on activation. Benefit is maximised when you purchase a $492.05 giftcard + $7.95 fee (pay via split payment of $300 and then $200). If you purchase less than this your discount will be less.

I'm thinking of taking 3 of this and pay 5 X $300 . I'm assuming the load can't go much more than the $500 .
Also I hope payment is like that and not paying 1 at a time ending with me having to find a $100 card for the 2nd part .

I was hoping for some great late mail on something but looks like not happening .

    • First time got this varialbe load VISA/EFTPOS today. Woolies team discount takes $25 off on $500 load surprisingly on both cards with $7.95 not discounted. I bet these are the king of purchase that beats the Auspost Mastercard. Actually, they are not available in all Woolies.

      • So you can actually load $500 gift card + $7.95 fee per card max, as opposed to load $492.05 gift card + $7.95 fee per card.

i.e. the $7.95 fee does not "eat into" the gift card amount, rather its in addition to the amount.

        • Yes, l loaded to the max $500, $507.95 before any discounts. Outstanding $482.95 after team discount.

          • @Neoika: Great thanks. Wished I had the team discount too :)

          • +1

@Neoika: Hmmmm I'm surprise they permit team discount on what is really the same as pure cash :)

            • @popsiee: Yes, I never tried it before. I was thinking it the same as a Wish Giftcard, no discount for variable load cards.

  • Confirm prezzee + Apple Pay still works.

    Saved trips to coles/wws/Aldi.

    • Can't redeem Prezzee for Aldi though.

      • Ah okay. Then might visit aldi next Saturday then.

    • In prezzie app or just on mobile browser?

    • how to do prezzee + apple pay?

  • +3

Around $1000 spent for 4 Saturdays equal to around $4000 or more. If every Zip card holder is doing the same, our Aussie economy is certainly growing in December. Or is it a false economy as most people bought gc ?

    • Lmao everyone just will be hoarding cards. My 1k of coupons will be lasting me till next Christmas probably,

  • Let say I spend $300, receive and redeem the $30 cashback. Does that mean I'll be paying off $300 and be in a net positive balance of $30 or do I just need to pay off $270?

    • Net positive balance of $30.

      • Cheers. And when does the $30 expire once I've redeemed it?

      • If $90 CB has been redeemed today, and the full balance paid off on Monday (to get ready for next Sat), then the net positive balance of $90 will be deducted from next week's spending?

        • 90 cb is redeemed instantly.

eg buy 1000 creds. redeem ur 90.
acc will be showing 1000 pending, 90 to spend.
10 points out of 30 will be available

    • +2

      You initially have $1000 credit

      • Spend $300, $700 credit available
      • Redeem $30 Reward, $730 credit available

With $730 credit available, there are 2 ways to repay this.
      1. Pay $270 through your linked card (Cannot repay more than $270)
      2. Pay $270 through BPay (You could pay $300 back, but not recommended as it's against T&C)

      • Is the maximum repayment = credit limit at $1000?
i.e. if I spent $1090 ($90 CB) today, the repayment on Monday would be $1000?

sorry if I'm going in circles, just trying to get my head around it.

        • Yes, correct.
Repayment on Monday would be $1000 only.

          • @Neverever978: IMO what you have suggested is the best way to do it. Spend $1000 get $100 rewards, redeem 90, spend $90 and get $9 back - so you have $19 rewards rather than $10 so best to redeem & spend your reward on Saturday

            • @Maxdax: I agree this is the best to maximise.

I haven't risked the extra though and just spent $900 each Saturday. If I didn't make it to do a shop the following week wouldn't want to lose the bonus.

      • Could you please point out the exact line in TOS where it is not allowed? Thanks.

        • +3

It's in the Zip Pay Contract which is attached in the welcome email when you signed up
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/588546?page=16#comment-983…

          Section 8.a

          8. Repayments
          a) You must pay us the Minimum Repayment Amount shown on your Statement by the Due Date shown on your
Statement. You may choose to pay more if you wish but you must not put the balance in your Account in to credit.

However, there is a FAQ article contradicting the T&C
          https://help.zip.co/hc/en-us/articles/360001592156-My-accoun…

My account is in credit, how do I get a refund?

Your account can be in credit from over payment, or from having an order refunded.

You're welcome to leave your account in credit and to use the funds for your next purchase.

          • @Neverever978: So Refunds putting the account balance in to credit are ok but not repayments?

            • @sub102: Looks like it but I might be wrong.

As long as you are not greedy and over doing it (BPay), you should be fine.

              • @Neverever978: In my case I'm due a big refund which should make my available credit exceed my $500 limit by more than $300. That should be the best way to head in to next saturday then

        • +4

The app won't let you do it with CC. And if you do it with BPAY, your account will be flagged and become unusable.

    • You can redeem this $30 before payment due date and your outstanding balance will be reduced by $30. So only need to pay $270

  • +1

Ok i making a purchase this late afternoon im new to zip and already signed up to the $15 credit on $50 for sign up so if it works ok i will get sometime in next 14 days the $15.
Obviously when i make purchase this afternoon then this above would kick in.
And as my item does not reach the $300 to get $30 reward then i buy a gift card from store same time to make it $300.

Im reading there is another get $10 for first purchase im not wanting to be too greedy but as i have not used anything yet can still take advange of this or might loose the $15 as listed above and just get $10.
Or have you all got both $10 and the $15?
Also this zip and pay is this ending midnight tonight and eastern time?

Does the $10 first spend apply like the $15 sign up as credit and not reward and then has to reach $30.

I find it hard to beleive that they would pay out $15 sign up $10 first purchase and then 10% for today.

    • +1

      This only looks English…

    • As I read it, you should receive the $15, the $10, and the 10%.

      • Seems to good to be true $15 and $10 and 10%

The 10% is in rewards which you need to get $300 spend to get $30 and redeem.
Am i right the $15 and $10 is instant credit?

When its saturday only for the 10% today is there a cut off time?

        • I assume that the $15 and $10 will go through without needing to hit $30 to redeem them, yeah, although IDK - still waiting on my $15, and had used tap and pay before the $10 came out so won't get that.

IDK how precise "Saturday" is - do they correctly handle the different time zones for transactions with merchants in those time zones too? I wouldn't push it, leave yourself a few hours of space if you can.

          • @ely: Im over west and stores are still open so should be still ok.
As for the $10 on first purchase i dont see any link or sign up for it why

            • @bwatt72: The only place I've seen it mentioned is here on OzBargain; presumably if you're eligible you'll see it in app.
