I wish they’d launched a recycling initiative for those button batteries though.

First Apple device with user replaceable battery in… a decade?

      • Considering iPods never had a replaceable battery ever, it will be more than a decade.

        • +4

MacBooks had replaceable batteries until around 2013.

Apple TV remote and keyboards and mouse had replaceable batteries until around 2015.

      • +1

Last one was the AA wireless keyboard dropped in 2015

  • One thing to note about these airtags

they dont stick to anything unless you use tape
you should be buying the apple or belkin etc cases that you can attach to your keys

    • +14

Pff an Ozbargainer would buy the $1 silicon cases that will infest Ebay forever

      • +4

Or, MacGyver it by using the zip ties from the 500-piece tool kit.

      wdym? link

    • This isn’t correct at all.

      • Thanks for correcting. It wasn’t clear on the Apple website when I had a look last. I’ll have another look.

      • Seems no all feature are available for some iPhones

        Precision Finding compatible with:

        iPhone 11
iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max
iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini
iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max

    • +3

Nah I can see these being well supported. Good little side earner that helps lock people in to the iPhone ecosystem

      • -3

Yeah its not a new thing, Whistle and find your keys for 4 bucks in the 90s.

        • What if you don't have lips?

    • Literally what?

      • -5

ikr. The fan boys come out from under the rocks.

So why come here and set yourself up as a target. Move on and play with your own toys.

Some people just cant help themselves can they!

    • Only to people with no clue.

FYI — For those that have a corporate EPP partnership with Apple, a 4x price is A$134.20

    No Latittude required.

    • +4

      Yeah but this is $100?

    • Thank you, just checked education store and there is no discount.

Luckily you can use google to access an EPP store!

Incidentally, wife just lost her keys…

    • +21

      Thanks for the idea.

Hiding wife’s keys now and will be purchasing Air Tags tomorrow :-)

    • Allegedly lol

  • Would love that without latitude pay! Don’t like the idea of paying off over instalments.

    • +3

You can pay all of the instalments immediately.

      • But apparently they lock your account if you do that, as they don't want you doing it.

        • +2

That is incorrect. The benefits of paying it over a period of time is them increasing your available credit

      • Why bother? You can ask them to automatically charge it onto your credit card anyway.

        • How do you ask them to charge the full amount to credit card?

          • @coffeemornings: I don't. I just let them charge in instalments (which is automatic and requires no action from me). Why would you be in a hurry to give your money out?

      • I didn’t know that! Thanks.

Any idea if signing up to things like latitude pay/after pay has any implications on your credit?

        • I don't think I've ever seen this question answered on OzB….would also like to know from someone who has actually looked into it properly

Anyone have experience with Harvey Norman preorders?, can you pickup it up on day one April 30? Or it will be months of wait for Harvey to get stock?

  • +1

i guess apple should have plenty of airtags in stock. Heard from youtube they were in production since last year. Need to get those tags so i won't lost my keys.

  • Would this be good to put inside my saddle bag of my bicycle for tracking purposes? To let someone know where my current position is?

    • I feel like an app on your phone would be more reliable / easier

    • +4

Just share your location with another iTunes account. No need for air tag to do that just your device with you a and the other person needing to be on apple too.

    • Sounds like a good idea if you don’t want to enable 24/7 tracking for the other person and but you’d rather not change the setting to temporarily share your location every time you ride. Might also help if someone knicks the bike although they could dump the tracker as soon as they noticed… but not sure how many thieves would check until it started beeping.

On a slightly different topic, what the consensus on joining Latitude Pay? Not sure whether it’s worth it.

    • +1

Just pay it back straight away.

    • +1

I’ve had no problems with them at all

  • +1

I’ve gotta ask….I never have any problem with pay later app like Afterpay or Zip. However after I downloaded Latitude Pay app on App, I can’t figure it out…. For one, it uses different password and then once I logged in, it asked me to link to a credit card which I already did via their website…(but I can’t see the card detail)…..I almost think Latitude Pay app is a different company or at least service to the latitude pay I found on their website……😓 is that just me??

    • +3

That’s the American app and it’s not linked to the Australian Latitude pay
Just just there website to pay and manage your account

      • Ahhhhhh that made so much sense and confirmed my “adjacent” suspicion! Thank you!!!

Though….kinda hard to believe they don’t have an app these days….

    • +1

Yes I realised that too today. I was getting frustrated as the reset password email was not coming through until I used the website and came straight away

      • +2

Omg, story of a moment of my life …lolz exactly the same !

    • Kinda scary they make it so easy to sign up to a new account, that you can do it by accident!

Best way to track a stolen car these days?

    • +1

Nah, if they drive to the outback where there is few ios user then airtag is no use. It is not GPS based.

      • +4

What do you think car thieves do with stolen vehicles, recreate Mad Max?

        • What do you think car thieves do with stolen vehicles, recreate Mad Max?

There's a few things they usually do:
          1. Joy ride, crash it then leave it in a ditch
          2. Use it for a smash and grab, crash it, burn it, out leave it in a ditch
          3. Strip it for parts, then dump the shell in a ditch
          4. Ship it overseas to unregulated countries

I'd be interested so see how useful one of these Tags is for finding a stolen vehicle, my guess is not very useful at all. Much better with a GPS alarm designed specifically for this purpose.

  • Any $1 item suggested?

  • +1

Keyring is not included. Have fork out another $20 per airtag

  • +1

Can you pay off Latitude Pay straight away?

  • -2

So question, do these actually come with an attachment point, or do you have to fork out for the holder on top of the cost of the actual airtag?

  • Where is the option to pay with latitude pay?

    Only options I see are:
    - Interest Free
    - Credit Card
    - PayPal

  • Can use it to track my cat’s whereabouts? Tile seems expensive with annual sub

    • There's no hole to put through a keychain ring. It's also pretty big. I think too big for cats. I was also thinking the same thing.

What company makes the cr2032 batteries? Time to invest in that company!
