20% off The Good Guys Gift Cards at Australia Post

4400

20% off on The Good Guys gift cards when purchased at Australia Post from 30 April to 13 May.

PS: Although the deal technically starts on the 30th, some Australia Post outlets seem to be honouring the deal now.

PPS: Looks like the link has been photoshopped out of the Australia Post official catalogue. And the link has been removed from Lasoo. I've updated the link to the catalogue. It is on the bottom of page 5 of the catalogue.

I hope that is the case as well. Before everyone jumps into buying the BestRestaurant gift card from Australia Post, there is now a same offer from Coles.

          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/69062

As I commented in there, it is actually a slightly better place to get your BestRestaurant gift cards.

          • You can use your discounted coles gift card (our staff shop is $95.5 for $100) to get this card
          • You get the fuel discount voucher
          • You get flybuys points as well
        • Thanks ausooi, for highlighting the other deal. I guess it is not a clear yes/no and it will be up to the restaurant management to allow the stacking. No doubt they will be using the "not valid with any other promo" as their fallback. Since I don't want to be stuck with the risk of having to negotiate with them, I don't think I will purchase the gift cards if they appear in the Ent Book.

        • +1

          Gift cards aren't a "promo"

You just happened to get them at a discount.

        • Hi ausooi

When you get the disocunted coles gift card? I don't think the staff card can be used to purcahse gift cards(except for Itunes).

          Cheers

        • @sorga: Sorry if I caused some confusion, but the actual Coles gift card is from our bank's staff shop, not the Coles' staff discount. I've bought this Coles gift card quite regularly for my day to day shopping at Coles without any issues.

I falsely assumed that most people can get it from their company as well (just like the movie vouchers, etc).

  • Just bought an Ipad. GG person told me it is a promotion of $1M. The max per person should be $500. They had somebody in yesterday with $3000.

  • Is this deal hitting one of the all time ozbargainer high score yet?
Does anyone know what was the highest ever + deals?

  • +1

hey you can still find cards at suburban post office shops. I bought a few $ks worth late yesterday. The staff at the post office shop didn't seem to know much about them until we enquired.

  • I bought some today but where in Sydney have the new iPad 32GB in stock?

  • Damnnn… Called AUS POST this morning and find out a store still have stocks @9:15AM, the lady on the phone promised me will save it for me if i get there before 12 noon as I requested the hold on them.

Took me 75 mins to there and it's SOLD… What The ~

About 3 hours wasted this morning…. and fuel as well

    • the whole crapped service are Unsatisfied!

the lady on the phone promised me will hold 2 hours for me which I left my name and contact number for confirmations.

I've already wasted the whole morning yesterday queuing up in-front a POST SHOP before it opens which turns out they don't have any stocks.

After that went to a LPO yesterday afternoon, which have stocks with them but not willing to sell it with 20% off for me? Isn't it Aus National Wide Promo? How Can the store rejected to sell them?

      • +2

i am reminded of that seinfeld ep. 'you know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to hold the reservation.'

      • Unfortunately ozbargained

  • Hmmm bought a heap of $50 cards and then realised I actually paid $50 per card. Aren't the cards meant to automatically scan at the correct price? Such a PITA because I got these miles away from where I live.

    • +8

Mine scanned at $50 as well, then the lady manually entered the promo code and the discount amount manually. So check and see if there's a total discount right at the bottom of the receipt? I mean you wouldn't have bought 10 cards and paid $500 - without realising no discount was applied right? That would automatically disqualify you from being a member of Ozb. ;)

      • +4

I know it's not good form on my side. I have officially become an ozdonationer

    • LOL, how on earth did you let that happen. how did you not realise at the time??

    • They scan at full value, discount needs to be manually applied.

    • +1

Lol….. You should read commets from others.

      • +1

But does one really need to read comments to determine that if for instance you buy $500 dollars worth of cards and you paid $500 dollars that you haven't gotten your discount and realise it then and there?

        • He probably grabbed a bunch (not knowing how many) and paid for them all at once.

        • Or could have bought other things at the same time.

    • Lol, when I spoke to the lady at my local post office she said they'd sold out on Friday, but she charged the buyer full price on account of the promotion starting Monday! Apparently they didn't realise either lol

When the buyer came back on Monday, she refused to refund the difference lol

  • Doesn't matter. As long as they credit the 20% back I'll be happy. But they cant return the card and rescan it can they if it's already activated?

    • Can we recharge the card after its been used?

    • If you paid by credit card, and Aus Post refuse to give you 20% back or refund, then call up your credit card company and get the payment reversed stating that you were over-charged.

      • No Aust Post were very good and fixed everything without any issue. I was informed by AMEX that they couldn't do anything about a transaction where you were overcharged.

        • +4

Now make sure you don't pay full price at TGG.

  • Can't find any stock in Sydney

Pray that the online shop sku comes alive soon

    • -1

My problem is cannot find any new iPad in stock :(

      • I hold an New iPad 16GB wifi White in TGG… My problem is cannot find any TGG Gift Cards in stock :(

    • I bought 1k+ from Engadine around 12 today. Lucky to ring them and found out they have some available first thing in the morning… long drive there….

  • Seems like a lot of tgg in Sydney have stopped restocking iPads, might need to start considering other use of your gift cards guys. :(

    • I'm sure they don't care what you spend it on.
Aren't iPads being sold faster than they can make them still?
Limited stock per reseller coupled with this deal = no more available stock, not a matter of them losing money.

      • Apple just launched them in another 20+ countries around the world last week, so I imagine that shortages will be sustained for a fair while yet.

      • I'm not saying tgg is losing money on selling ipads or that is the reason why they won't restock. The post is meant to be a general comment after calling a number of tggs in Sydney.

    • +1

The sales person at TGG said that they don't actually re-order iPad's specifically, but they are restocked by apple, at apple's discretion. They don't know when they're going to turn up, or what they're going to receive - they take whatever they can get.

      • yeah, thats why they said to me as well :(

  • Aren't these cards valid for a year, why all the panic buying from TGG.

    • Because I want to have it in this tax period for refund and they may not have it back in a short period of time.

Also we are afraid TGG will like DSE :P

      • What?! dse is still alive and kicking..

        • There are more going to close down in the following few months.

  • I put my name down at my local Post Shop, they said they will try to call tomorrow if they get more.
    Crossing my fingers.

I also called a LPO who had no idea bout it, they said they couldn't stock many cards because of limited space.

    • LOL :)

  • I just called Australia Post. The lady said there is none left in Victoria. No hope for me :(

    • +1

After purchased $1700 at BNE CBD on last Thursday, I was able to get another $1700 just now, it's in Queensland though, from a reginal private owned store.

      • whereabouts?

      • ditto ~ where?

        • +2

          Deception Bay

      • They actually gave you the 20% discount before the 30th??

        • +1

          Welcome to last week

  • I just called Australia Post to check availability near me and was told that they would not call any POs for this.

    • you can ring the post office shops yourself. I got mine in this way.

      • -1

Where did you get the phone numbers?

        • -1

          there's a magical thing called "the internet"…

        • +2

someone pasted a list of NSW post office phone numbers in page 5 or 6.

        • The one I tried to get was apparently a silent number. I tried calling the numbers listed on that link from page 5 or 6 but the 4 PO's I tried had no answer so maybe it's an old list?

        • The list is in the link on this post:
          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/reply/68504/851613

        • …the internet has "websites". Australia Post has a wesbite. Australia Post's website has a Post Office locator. the Post Office locator lists the phone number of Post Offices.

          was it really that hard?

i guess so, for the person who negged me!

        • +4

I see that most that I have looked at have a generic number 13 13 18. There is no individual number. LPOs seem to be the exception.

        • -1

Fair enough. Might be different in different states, because every single one I looked up in search of cards (about 10-15) had their own local phone number.

      • Well, I'll thank you now for the inspiration. I managed to find stock and have now received it and paid for it at my local PO.
My only regret is not getting more.

    • Be wary about calling post offices, I picked up mine and the lady said to me, 'oh there's some left, I didn't realise that, someone called earlier and I told them there was none left, I assumed that with all the buying they would be all gone'. I ended up getting $950 worth. I'm blessed that that person was misinformed, but unfortunately that person may have missed out.

  • Just tried to get a few more as a few $100 short on home appliances.

None left at bondi rd, bondi beach, tamarama, bellevue hill, double bay, bondi junction or edgecliff.

i think i am done chasing them down.

  • some help for those who missed out. try somerton bc (vic), had a few the last time I checked

  • +1

Nothing left in Hurstville (two of them), Kogarah, Rockdale, Kingsgrove, a few LPOs around Ramsgate

  • +2

Great deal, just picked up an ipod touch for $139. Got TGG to price match Dick Smith $169 and used $150 post office vouchers, total spend $139.

    • are you still able to get TGG to price match? Dick Smith's 169 on iPT is over are there any other stores to price match?

      • I went in yesterday and got them to price match Dick Smith but my gift cards hadn't been activated so they left my purchase on hold in the computer and let me pay for it today.

  • +2

Gotta say TGG have handled this great. Staff have been helpful, no grumbles about price matching or calling up gift card company to check etc.. very impressed!

    • Totally agree. The CSR at TGG gave me The New iPad 16GB WiFi for $497 without any fuss or checking out competitors' pricing, making the effective cost $397.60

  • Anyone got any luck with AusPost in SA?
I went to the one at Hollywood Plaza and Salisbury BC and there were none on the gift card stand. There weren't empty spots where they used to be either. This was first thing Monday morning.
If anyone managed to get a post office to "order" it in would be helpful too.

    • i bought $400 worth today from the salisbury south bc they had about 2k left on the rack they were quite hard to spot they were on the corner of the racking

lol "Grab yourself a bargain!!" $97.95 for a 100 buck gift card

    • +3

      That username sounds suspiciously familiar!

Edit: Ok, the same username posted above stating that they've purchased 3000 worth. So Ebay's what they were for. :p

These gift card discounts stack beautifully with tax deductions.

Say I'm buying an ipad which normally costs $500 (and I am). Absent the gift cards, it translates to after tax dollars as follows:

    GST:

    In [2]: 500 / 11.0
    Out[2]: 45.45454545454545

    Effective income tax rebate:

    In [5]: 500 / 11.0 * 10 * .37
    Out[5]: 168.18181818181816

Giving a total price in after tax dollars of $286.36

But if I use discounted gift cards, the above tax rebate amounts still apply (I don't see how they wouldn't). And I get an extra $100 off IN AFTER TAX DOLLARS.

So the discounted price in after tax dollars is $186.36

So in after tax dollars, this 20% discount actually becomes a 35% discount. Super f%^king win!

    • Works even better if you are salary sacrificing. The 2nd top tax rate equates to a 44.4% discount after gst and salary reimbursement. With the GG 20% discount, it works out to a 64.4% discount.

For any of you that tried to buy from the UAT site - they will honour these transactions.
The day the deal started, I used the UAT site to buy $2500's worth and then sent an online query to Auspost asking what the go with the site was and would they still honour the deal.

They said that it was a testing site blah blah blah and that they will honour the deal and we should receive our vouchers within 10 days!

So any of you that did this - send an enquiry!

BTW It looks as though public access to the site has been removed now.

    • has your card been charged?

      • It hadnt about an hour ago, I haven't checked since then.
I assume they will process it sometime in the next few days before the order is shipped.

        • did auspost call you or email you?

        • They emailed me

        • I also received the email this afternoon saying they would honor the order. They also want to know how I came across the link.

    • not working now. They have added authentication to the UAT site.

    • I guess now everyone in the test team will have access to your credit card number. All data transfers are unsecured, including storage.

      • Ahh well it happens hey!

    • -1

doh!!, now I may have too many gift cards.
Like a comment I read from another post last night - I am getting rather poor saving money…

      • +1

Sell your extra gift cards to fellow ozbargainers? :-)

      • They would probably let you cancel it if you didnt want them? Im sure this is more hassle to them now than its worth….

    • Doubt it. When I enquired I was told it was a testing site and it couldn't take an authenticated order. I was told specifically my credit card won't get charged, nor has it been charged.

And who knows whether they actually have any more cards available. Surely if they did this would have gone live yesterday.

      • You can doubt it all you want, but I have an official email from Aus post stating they will honor it. If they dont, then Ill make a fuss - if they do honor it then that's a bonus hey!

    • Are you sure about that? I emailed them ask about my order and got a call this afternoon. The lady explained it was only a test site and they won't honor it.

      • Maybe it was smaller transactions that got honoured…
Guys that got the email, how much did you order? As well as those that got denied…

        • Im sure about it….I confirmed it with them today. Its an official communication from Aus post initiated through their proper website.
I ordered $2000 worth. If I was you I would kick up a fuss, its their stuff up so they should honor it.

    • Where did you send the query through? I ordered through the UAT site, had a receipt e-mailed to me but haven't had my credit card charged. I would love to get them to process it!

      • I sent it though the contact us section of the official site. Send them our order number etc that you received via email and they should reply saying they will honor it.

        • I sent it on Tuesday and still no reply! Hopefully they are just being slow :)
