    Cracker is a price

    • +4

      How much is a cracker?

    • If the cracker is a good price, you should post it as a deal.

  • +2

Cheapest so far was $998 @ Officeworks

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/670861

    • +1

I think that was a price error

      • That's what a bunch of the comments said. Many others said they purchased, no one I could find said they weren't honoured, and one on the last page of comments said "Thx op ordered 3x and picked them up today"

        • +1

Yeah I saw that too but it was quicky withdrawn. And as you said it was a totally different machine targeting different segments

        • +2

I got this as a working laptop 40 min after the deal was posted. Did not expect it to come but it did. Quality is good but the screen brightness is only enough for indoor use. I also upgraded the wifi card to AX200 since its original Realtek one is shxt. Cannot blame it at $998.

      • +1

god damn i woulda paid that for that 16" laptop what a deal.. even crazier coulda had it 4 months ago, all metal design and 16hr battery, how the fook did i miss that

        • It was a price error without much stock, lots of people's orders got cancelled, mine included.

          • @bananabendera: clearly many still got it when they chose pickup from store option as shown in the comments

        • I've got notifications on for anything matching Lenovo and Laptop… Also don't know how I missed it. And for under $1k. I needed to get a manager at work a lappy around then too. Wish I saw this one. Now she has an HP plastic thing. Doesn't mind it though so whatever.

      • +1

I managed to grab for pickup

      • +1

It wasn't, because I got one and gave it to another member here.

        Hundreds got it.

I haven't seen anything come close to it, all the deals people post since that I'm like laughing.

    • +1

That's a 16" model, smaller often costs more, also has an H series CPU which is higher performance than this U one. So potentially less battery life in the 16" too. Although that listing says Up to 16 hours battery life which sounds amazing. That deal also is not a touch screen. Basically they're not the same :D

    • +3

      Damn that 16" was a good deal…

      • All I'm seeing is worse deals every week posted.

I actually regret selling it now, I didn't profit when I gave it to someone else.

    • +1

if anyone wants to sell their $998 bargain hit me up.

  • +2

Anyone else with an lenovo laptop have track pad issues?

    • +1

I bought this very model with Ryzen 7 which was on sale a while ago and the trackpad is fine. It's not macbook level, but for a budget pc, it's more than fine

    • I do, think model is S540, was around this price.

    • I had trackpad issues with this model, returned it for another that isn’t perfect, but will do.

  • +1

I posted the same one before and someone in the comments negotiated the price even lower at that time.

So many good AMD laptop deal, i need a 2 in 1 laptop deal :)

  • What is everyone's battery life like on this laptop, I have this laptop but with the Ryzen 7 and I'm only getting 5-7 hours depending on how heavy I use it.

    • +1

Put it on battery saver mode and crank up your brightness to your liking. Will boost it up to around 10 hours

  • +1

The fan on this model runs very noisy, even under not much load. Very noticeable and annoying in a quiet room.

    • Mine is super quiet. Probably an issue with your machine

      • +1

Same. Mine only ramped up when windows did an update.

Is this true? Lenovo, poor quality, unreliable. Dell, good quality, laptop lifespan last longer, reliable.

    • Nope. I have owned both and can say their build quality and reliability is pretty similar even slightly better at Lenovo's side. Dell has a better customer service though if you buy their premium support plans.

    • Lol no. Had two Dell Inspirons of the same model develop a weird physical line in the centre of the screen. Bought a Latitude 7420 and it had rattly speakers, a dying CPU, and the build quality was hardly better than my Inspiron.

It's all about the models you buy. I'm sure the XPS line is much better for Dell, and that the ThinkPad line is the same for Lenovo.

    • I'm using for nearly 11 years. Drop many times, accidentally poured the soup on it, only change the keyboard it's still working. So what you heard is wrong. However their driver support is crap

    • Lenovo ThinkPads are some of the best in enterprise grade laptops. My T480 is going extremely well, even after 3-4 years of usage 8-12 hours per day. Batteries needed changing this year, but that's the case for all laptops.

Dell on the other hand, I've heard nothing but problems from friends who work in the IT service departments of various companies.

    • You sound like Tucker Carlson. I’m just asking questions, with no evidence or basis in fact. I’m just asking questions not making a statement.

      • Oh okay thanks for pointing that out. That'll be a lesson learnt moving forward. I didn't want to rant.

Most of the Lenovo devices I had, had some sort of hardware problem. The customer service was full of crap. There is a warranty for a reason and it's like as if they are not fulfilling the warranty even if your device is truely faulty. If you don't have retail warranty then you're dead. My first Lenovo delivered with cracks in the corner and if you press it you'd hear the gap squeak. They said go to a retail and ask staff for a demo device and press that area to test. And I said, so if I press and hear a squeak that means that it's normal? LOL the guy was like noooo. Later they accused me of customer induced damage!? WHAT? My next Lenovo laptop came with camera problems, why is it so hard to slide the privacy screen on and off for the camera? And why is the light flickering? Even though I have fully done a factory reset? I am not sure what the techies roles actually are but they love to keep stalling us until we give up asking for help. Troubleshooting takes ages with them. Luckily I had warranty with the store purchased from and was able to get a replacement. This laptop is fine so far. Cannot remember from memory where I was advised this, probably Whirlpool, that they use cheap hardware and are China owned.

So who do I sound like now? :)

  • +1

Great machine, loving mine after two months, but I got trackpad issues from the factory. Guy at JB said there was a coding error with one of the production lines, so it’s a bit random as to who got this. Swapped it out for another machine (manufactured November 2021) and, whilst not perfect, is good enough for me. Besides that, can’t fault this machine at all.

Edit: I think my manufacturing date was November 26th on both laptop. Basically if you have a manufacturing date from December 2021 onwards then you should be fine.

  • can we price beat this one anywhere?

    • +2

Try and negotiate the price with JB. I got mine for $1,165 last time. Plus you get a $40 JB gift card for trying out Norton, so essentially $1,125.

  • +1

Is it really a touch display? I can't see it pointed out anywhere on the website.

    • It is a touch display. :)

      • How weird the JB listing doesn't mention touch screen anywhere at all. But you own one! You should know.

        • +1

I own the 5800u of this laptop bought from jbhifi. Same screen. Its glossy and has touch.

        • +1

True.not sure if they are not aware of it, or its simply a mistake. But rest assured, both Ryzen 5 and 7 variants are touch if you buy from JB.

  • How's the build quality of this device? Do you think it's suitable for a high school kid and the punishment of being in a school bag?

    • +1

It's a good build machine. All metal.

    • Being an IdeaPad - I would hestiate to recommend them. Even though it has a metal exterior, stuff like hinges tend to be lower quality. It might be OK but if you want something tougher, get a ThinkPad.

    • It’s definitely built well enough to survive. If it gets broken it’s because it wasn’t being looked after.

  • @Rimas: Lots of upvotes this time round!

    • Yes thanks to posting it under TA's. Lol

  • Does Jb accept return for change if mind?

    • Yes, they do. Take it back and buy it again with GC

  • Forgot buy gift card to pay for it for further discount

  • What's everyone's opinions: AMD vs Intel?

Just trying to source a new laptop as my Asus 16" bought in 2014 is super duper slow these days.

    • +1

Amd seem to be better power wise and speeds are keeping up their intel counterpart.

  • Can some one help,
    IdeaPad Slim 5 Pro Gn 6 16" AMD Ryzen 7 5800H has 2 x usb-c or 1?
    The website said Ports2
    • 1x USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (support data transfer, Power Delivery 3.0
    and DisplayPort™ 1.4)
    • 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 1
    1x USB 3.2 Gen 1 (Always On)
1x USB-C2.0 (support data transfer and Power Delivery 3.0)
on model with integrated graphics only
1x power connector on model with discrete graphics
    1 × HDMI 1.4b
    1 × 4-in-1 card reader
    1 × headphone / mic
    So not sure 2 or 1 ?

    • +2

The one with Discreet graphics has 1 USB-C port and 1 special charging port because if its higher power consumption, hence special power brick. The one with integrated graphics has 2 USB-C ports one of which can be used for charging.

      • +2

        Thanks for the reply Rimas.

  • Anyone know what is the weight on this laptop? Cheers.

    • 1.38kg

      • Thanks.
How is this compare to Dell https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/393328774153
Considering Dell has Ryzen 7 and I can add extra 8gb ram in it.

        • The Dell one is an Inspiron which has a lower build quality than the Yoga and the ideapad Pro I shared earlier. Plus its screen is FHD compared to 2.2k on these Lenovos. It has a better CPU no doubt but do you need a better CPU at the cost of build quality and screen clarity? That's a question you need to answer. If Ryzen 5 is good enough for you, I'd get the ideapad pro, else I'd wait for JB to put its Ryzen 7 model on Sale for 1,299 hopefully by the end of FY if you can wait.

          • @Rimas: Got it, last question. Is the RAM upgradable?

            • @Chopel: I got the 5800u ideapad. Negatory on the ram upgrade. Its soldered.

            • @Chopel: No, it's not

  • Thanks OP - got this for $1043 as per the price mentioned in one of the previous threads above - although i caved in and bought the extended JB hifi warranty

    • +1

You got a great deal! Make sure you claim the Norton trial gift cards to make it even sweeter

    • How much did the warranty set you back?

      • i think it was just over 100 bucks for 5 year total warranty (ill have to find the receipt to get the exact amount). But i was disappointed when i found out it was a jb hifi extended warranty product rather than manufacturer extended warranty!

        • That's not too bad. Lenovo sells extended warranty and it's about 30 bucks a year for their most basic cover. To be honest I'd rather deal with JB than Lenovo for warranty claim

  • Bloody hell. First time looking for a new laptop for years, dropped into JB today and see this model $1499 thinking it was OK. See this post expired by a few days for $1199.
Not buying now seeing it was just a heap cheaper , they do have 15% off but not on this model..

    • The ryzen 7 for an extra $35 was an even better deal.
