I think that's the lowest and probably is now best bang for fps buck

@maverickjohn: There was. Are you not a moist man at the sight of these GPU prices dropping?

      • +2

I'm hodling fine with a GTX 970 playing Hell Let Loose at 1440p. It's 8 years old but still plays everything except 2 games lol. Cyberpunk/flight sim

    Version 3
These numbers are from the latest Hardware Unboxed 12 game average benchmarks for 2022 (https://youtu.be/KugxMJFhx7k?t=616). It doesn't take into consideration Ray Tracing, DLSS, etc I am aware 3k res isn't a thing, but I averaged the 1440p and 4k resolution performance stats. I personally run a 1440p ultrawide, so 3k is about right for me.

Note that the benchmarks used for these version 3 tables are different to previous tables/graphs so the $ per frame figures aren't comparable.

IMO great value card and with AMD just releasing the new beta drivers that increase perf in a number of recent games as well as FSR 2.0 making leaps and bounds and only getting better, puts this card in a good place.

I haven't seen any 6x50 deals posted yet, so using best prices I find on staticice for comparison.

    • AMDware unboxed, totally valid

  • +1

Is radeon driver good now? Last time i had a 5700xt, there were a lot of issues and required a lot of manual intervention to make it workable

    • Haven’t experienced any issues with my RX 6600

      • +2

the ability not having to make an account and sign in to use driver features is nice :)

        example, Usage overlays, streaming stuff

        • +3

God, this shits me so much re Nvidia and Geforce Experience.

On rigs I have with AMD cards, I really much prefer their driver software setup these days.

          • +1

@xyron: I just manually download driver updates and skip installing GeForce experience.
It was a pain to login so I don’t bother anymore

    • +1

      Drivers are very good now

    • Flawless for me but I also didn't have issues with my 5700 XT (traded it for a 6700 XT which I've been using now).

  • Not worth still, should be $699

    • +8

I'd have to disagree. Iin the current climate, at $699 it would put it at $7.94 per frame, significantly lower than any other card in the 1440p/4k space.

      • -2

No DLSS/terrible RT = garbage (I don't agree with this but it seems common arguments against AMD lol).

        • However a lot more games are coming out which support DLSS, FSR 1.0 and 2.0 and Intel Xess.

Yet to see at title where RT is required to significantly effect game play, and it's still a significant performance hit even on RTX compared to just rasterisation. Will most likey have to wait another generation till RT performance increases across the board to a decent level.

        • The reality is in this segment of the market RT sucks on both AMD and Nvidia and DLSS is very situational (many prefer it off). Regardless for pure gaming performance vs cost this is one of the best value cards we have seen for 1440p or entry level 4k.

FYI, the neg is from me, was accident, meant to mark it up, OZB won't seem to let me undo it at moment for some reason.

          • +2

@gromit: Im gonna chime in and say, I bought an RTX for the Deep Learning Super Smearing and i was sad to see what what it does to the image. In retrospect, i would have much gone for raw frames over this feature.
I dont know how deep the deep learning actually is. (or who the effin teacher is)
On the streaming side, very happy with the Nvenc. But could give the RT and the deep sh!t super smearing a miss.

        • +1

          Comments aren't baseless.
But it's not worth the premium over alternative in dollar value.
Eg 3080 is atleast $400 more right now. Ray tracing is nice but also agree that not quite good enough with the sacrifice to fps.
Dlss is great that it makes games that are unplayable now playable but the reality is dlss is a software enhancement that compromises on quality of image.
In the end of the day they have their place.
But for someone who just prefers raw performance for cheap. Amd can't be beaten. Particularly this card right now

    • upvoted because good comment. f*** the pro capitalist miners & mock shareholders

  • +4

Wow that is awesome bang for buck. been using a 6800 since release, it is a great gaming card 1440p or entry level 4k.

    • Also one of the most power efficient in terms of fps/watt cards around

      • -1

This is an underrated comment - one of the best features about the RX 6800 is the performance per watt - about equivalent to an RTX 3070Ti but uses way less power!

        • I can't wait to see the spin Nvidia will put on their Nvinity cache in the next gen

  • Waiting for a cpu deal now

    • +1

Waiting for a gigabyte 48 oled monitor deal - sad that I missed the last one

    • There have been plenty of CPU deals recently…

  • Tempting, been waiting to upgrade the 1080, feel like this would be good for 1440p ultrawide but like the performance jump on the XT model.

  • Best $ per frame at this performance tier in a while.

  • Umm, I'm new to PC building and was wondering if anyone could help me select some parts for my build, or if you have an input or suggestions, I'll be glad to take it. I was thinking of getting this RX 6800 with this post: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/700437
What other parts should I get with it to make sure it works? Thanks guys.

    • Yeah I think for general use and gaming that would be sweet. You want at least 16gb RAM and a decent power supply.

  • HODL ?

    • +2

      Yes

      • +4

how is the memory interface of a 6700 or a 6600 relevant in a conversation and deal for a 6800? why does it matter how much a 3060ti beats lower end cards by? it doesn't beat the 6800 on offer or even come close.

        • -5

Because the 3060ti is priced between 6600/6700. AMD can't offer a sub $700 256bit/16x card like nvidia.

The point you're missing is AMD's cheapest proper 1440p card was $1000 until today

          • @Jimmy77: sooo? the 3060ti is no doubt a great card for the low end, it is still an incredibly poor comparison to the 6800 both at 1440p and 4k both in cost and performance. Sure if you can't afford 900 then a 3060ti might be a better lower end graphics card for you at the compromise of price/performance

    • Prices will keep falling, but I don't think this card will plummet dramatically in value. Even when new cards start launching they will likely all cost more than $1000 for a while, so there is only so much pressure that will be put on mid tier and lower GPUs in the short term. Basically if you buy this today my crystal ball says it won't suddenly be only worth half as much in only a few months time.

      • hmm tempted.. but I will wait for price drop to $800.
I think it can drop an extra $100, or wait for a Afterpay/Ebay 15% off promo

  • +1

Should be crazy to be dropping this much when new cards are just weeks away. They will definitely have more frames/dollar value.

  • +1

been so tempted to make another build but new cards so close… but i remember we were saying the exact same thing 2 years ago and look what happened there…

Still my 5700XT is holding strong

    • you should prbably wait 5700 XT was last gen just hold on a little more you wont regret it

  • Ah nuts! I just bought a 3060 ti last night for $759.

Should I take it back and get this instead?

I'm confused by the comparisons. videocardbenchmark has them scored about the same

    • +3

One of the good comparisons from previous OzB comments is the GPU Heirarchy 2022 from Tom's Hardware. Here's the link to the image: https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/DqWuSY34Zsr7Z22N25e7Uc.png and here's the webpage: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html. You can see the 6800 sits pretty far up in performance.

As for whether you should return it… The 3060 ti is still being upvoted around the $750 pricerange although most think theres room for it to drop more over next couple of months. There are also some differences between Nvidia and AMD GPUs that might make it worth it to you over the pure performance difference. Edit to add: some of those differences might be able to bridge that pure performance gap. Also depends what resolution you'll be using e.g. 1080p or 4k. Both cards will be good performers though.

    • get both

    • +1

6800 is a good 25-30% faster but honestly I don't think it's worth an extra $140 unless you know you need it, i.e. 165fps at 1440p or solid 60fps/120fps at 4K. 3060 Ti is still a great card and you get DLSS and superior RT performance even to the 6800.

  • Can you use two cards in a computer? Is there any gain?

    • No

Out of stock. That's helped make my decision
