It's not on for another four days. Were you planning on hiding them until then?

  • +1

Is this the right one? No JbHiFi emblem on packaging like the one depicted in the ad above? Old stock?

    https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/threads…

    • Yes.

The gift card in that picture is old stock of Ultimate Him gift cards. JB Hi-Fi only started accepting Ultimate Him gift card at the end of September 2022, and there is still plenty of old stock being sold at retailers. There are some physical Ultimate Him gift cards with the JB Hi-Fi logo on the packaging, but those were only manufactured in June 2022.

Someone recently confirmed that Ultimate Him gift cards with no JB Hi-Fi logo on the front are still redeemable at JB Hi-Fi. The reason I am not at all surprised by this is that the gift card terms and conditions clearly states that the full and updated list of participating retailers is on the Ultimate gift card website (and this was confirmed by a Blackhawk Network rep1).

      1. If you are wondering the reason the rep received many downvotes, it is due to them not acknowledging the fact that JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys were accidentally included on two Ultimate gift cards before being removed after a 15% off deal became popular on OzBargain.

      • So I can clarify that if I buy Ultimate Him GC with no JB Hi Fi emblem on packaging I can still use it at JB Hi Fi?

  • +3

Just putting in my two cents. I live in the middle of Brisbane and I managed to by many $100 TCN gift cards in their last 15% off promotion. The first $500 I bought was on the opening day, around 9am. The next $500 was 2 days into the promotion, and multiple stores (coorparoo, Annerley, Woollongabba, Fairfield) had all restocked!

  • -3

They had this promotion last week but all of the eligible cards ran out in the stores. The staff member said they don't receive any more cards when the promotion is on.

    • It’s not that the cards run out. It’s that people hide them or take them home (steal them) prior to it being active.

  • Offer valid for giftcards.com.au!? Can do online purchase then

    • Nope. The fine print in the catalogue specifically excludes giftcards.com.au

      • +1

        Ahh right I misread, cheers

  • I've over indulged on gift cards the last few weeks. Don't need any more. To be honest, probably didn't need some of the ones i have already bought.

  • -8

for the people complaining about not finding any, what about if you take the cards early, come back on Wednesday, and then purchase them? because they aren't active til paid for, I know it is technically illegal, but if you're desperate for them

    • +1

Coles could easily not sell them to you citing any reason.

At the last PMC, one of the Coles in my area had actually cleared the shelf the night before. Forcing you to either approach the counter.

According to the checkout girls, they did that as people were taking them home and buying them throughout the day.

      • -1

fair enough, there goes that idea then, I don't buy them myself anyway, I never have the money to be able to drop enough to make a saving

      • What is PMC?

  • +1

Before anyone asks - I was able to purchase the TCN cards from the recent 15% off sale with discounted Coles Mastercards from the October deal so I would expect that you should also be able to purchase these Ultimate Gift cards as neither of these are a Coles Group Ltd issued gift cards.

  • I couldn’t find any last time. Will try again this time

  • Anyone knows can I use these gift card at JB-hifi to buy apple gift card? Thanks!

    • -1

Don’t believe you can use gift cards to buy gift cards at jb

      • It is up to the store and/or the staff that you deal with. Generally, busy locations tend to decline it.

In other words, if the staff is your friend, it is perfectly doable.

    • +1

      Probably.

There should be nothing in the JB Hi-Fi checkout system to automatically stop you from using Ultimate gift cards as a payment method for Apple gift cards.

The bigger question is whether staff will let you do this. In my experience, most staff don't care, but there will be some staff who will stop you if they realise you are trying to use an Ultimate gift card to as a payment method for Apple gift cards. I even once had a staff member demand to see the card I was going to use to pay for the Apple gift card, even though all I said was "can i pay by card please?"

Here are some tips for buying Apple gift cards:

      • Tell staff you want to pay by a card or Visa card. If you say anything about using a gift card or Ultimate gift card as a payment method, you will likely either confuse staff or have them say "no".

      • Try to avoid using multiple Ultimate gift cards as a payment method if you can. It is unusual for someone to ask to use multiple cards to pay for an Apple gift card, so that may make some staff suspicious of you and want to investigate what you're actually trying to do. Having said that, a lot of staff don't care.

      • Store the Ultimate gift card on a mobile wallet, then use the Ultimate gift card stored on the mobile wallet. I find that swiping a card makes some staff suspicious, although a lot of staff simply don't care.

If you were wondering, JB Hi-Fi does not sell Apple gift cards on their website.

      • Wait are people changing these over to Apple gift cards bc you can't use the tcn (or other) gift cards to buy Apple items in store at jb?

        • I think it's so that you can buy items directly off of Apple's website

        • +9

Not really. There are a number of reasons:

          • It is a lot harder to access education store pricing at JB Hi-Fi than Apple, because JB Hi-Fi almost always requires you to show evidence for your eligibility before agreeing to price match Apple. Meanwhile, Apple very rarely asks for you to demonstrate your eligibility before purchasing through the Apple Education Store.

          • It is basically impossible to access Apple On Campus (AOC) or Employee Purchase Program (EPP) pricing at JB Hi-Fi, because JB Hi-Fi would be extremely unlikely to agree to match pricing through those portals.

          • Although JB Hi-Fi sometimes sells MacBooks at a 10% discount, these sales pretty much always excludes build-to-order (e.g. custom build) MacBooks.

          • Apple usually has special deals during the Black Friday (a bonus gift card) and Back To School (free/discounted AirPods) sales periods. JB Hi-Fi does not.

          • You can purchase products via Cashrewards (and probably Shopback) and earn cashback on purchases through the regular Apple Online Store or Apple Education Store online, as long as the product you are purchasing is not excluded from cashback. Apple gift cards and Apple Account Associated Balances alone do not invalidate cashback.

          • You cannot purchase Apple subscriptions or media content (e.g. Apple Music, Apple TV+) at JB Hi-Fi.

          • Apple will usually have priority on receiving new stock of Apple products over resellers, so if the Apple product you are looking for is in very short supply, it will probably be faster to purchase it through Apple than JB Hi-Fi.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Thanks, that's really helpful info!

          • +1

            @WookieMonster: Thanks for info.
Is there a limit to how many apple gift cards you can use via the online site? or in the apple store?

            • @VRZ: Online: 8. If you want to use more than 8 in one online transaction, add them to your Apple Account Associated Balance first and then redeem that balance on the online checkout. However, keep in mind that you cannot use an Apple Account Associated Balance in a physical Apple Store (not yet, anyway), so keep that in mind.

Instore: I’m not sure if there is even a limit.

              • @WookieMonster: Do you know any way to use more than one at JB online?

                • +1

@viki8702: You will need to “convert” the Ultimate gift card into a JB Hi-Fi gift card. If you want to know more about how to do this, take a look at this comment. I will warn you that JB Hi-Fi’s online store is very inconsistent in terms of whether it will let you purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card using an Ultimate gift card, so keep that in mind.

(Just in case you were not aware, you can redeem an unlimited number of JB Hi-Fi gift cards in one online transaction.)

        • Recently used 2X $50 ultimate Gift card to buy $100 apple gift card.

    • can do a round about way by buying a big item with these ultimates, and return the items, you'd receive a JB hifi gift card

  • Are these still impossible to use online, they checkout like a Visa card, so you need to use the exact balance or you lost the remaining balance?

    • You won't lose the remaining balance. You can still use it.

  • -1

Can you exchange multiple cards to make one large say JB gift card?

    • Only way to do this would be to either pre order something then cancel, or buy something then return it. They will put the refund on a single JB gift card

      • Nope not only way. My wife recently converted a bunch of Ultimates to a single large JBHiFi gift card.

        • how much is the highest nomination of JBhifi giftcard?

          • +1

@ivyholmes: Dunno, maybe $1000? Wife used 20 $50 cards (teens, students) to make one $1000 JBHifi card. The receipt is nearly 2m long.

            • @Some Guy: I made a $1900 payment using $50 and $30 gift cards.. arrgh.. receipt was too long..

  • -1

could you buy an apple GC at Jb or OW?

  • Better use them ASAP after you have bought them.
Last time I tried to use my last Ultimate gift card, the balance was $15 (3 months after my purchase of 3 cards, the first 2 were fine).
Checked the transactions some one use $85 in a massage clinic 2 weeks before.

    • did the ultimate card you buy at coles or online?

    • +4

Confused with Coles Mastercard Gift Card? Ultimate could only be used at a massage clinic approved by Ultimate Gift Cards as a participating retailer.

    • +4

Dude.. there's no massage clinics listed on Ultimate Gift cards lol

  • What're people buying with their discounted GC?

BF deals were too good, I feel dirty to spend more

    • +2

Usual subscription style stuff I guess, like more stuff for the bbq or food from my muscle chef. We've put down on a PSVR2 as there's no way it'll be 15% off in the next year. I suspect folks who shop at OW for school year will want to load up on some in advance though. The other cards we're going to use at PetStock for pet food.

      • Thanks for the reply. Looking where I can find the value as 15% is good

      • How are using them PetStock? They aren't listed on the cards?

  • Dumb question but I want to buy a insta 360 x3 and its online only on jbhifi website. If i buy these gift cards is there a limit to how many you can use on their website?
Id use about 8 of these him gift cards.

    • If you purchase the Visa version, you can only redeem a maximum of 1x Ultimate gift card on the JB Hi-Fi website, as the JB Hi-Fi website can only process payment from 1x Visa card for each online transaction. The workaround is to “convert” one or multiple Ultimate gift cards into a JB Hi-Fi gift card.

If you purchase the EFTPOS version, you cannot redeem it on the JB Hi-Fi online store, as EFTPOS cannot handle online transactions.

  • Already all gone in my local

  • Will be my first time buying these cards. I plan on getting a Macbook Air M2 when JBHIFI have 10% off. So there shouldn't be any issues using the Kids, Him or Her cards to pay? Been reading up on limits and it looks like I should be fine if I plan to use 18 x $100 cards in store?

    • +4

My suggestion is to actually make a note of the Ultimate gift cards with JB Hi-Fi as a participating retailer.

The only Ultimate gift cards sold at Coles with JB Hi-Fi as a participating retailer and participating in this deal are:

      • Everyone: $50
      • Him: $50, $100
      • Home: $50, $100
      • Kids: $30, $50
      • Teens: $30, $50
      • Thanks: $50

(Woolworths and BIG W sell $100 Everyone and Thanks gift cards, but that denomination for those gift cards are not sold at Coles.)

I would also suggest making sure you are purchasing the Visa version. If you instead purchase the EFTPOS version of the Ultimate gift cards, it may not actually work at JB Hi-Fi. For example, the Visa version of the Ultimate Him gift card works at JB Hi-Fi, but the EFTPOS version of the Ultimate Him gift card does not work at JB Hi-Fi.

In terms of limits at JB Hi-Fi, you should be fine using multiple Ultimate gift cards to purchase the MacBook Air M2 instore. It is not unheard of to use a pile of Ultimate or TCN gift cards in one transaction (e.g. 54, 54, 81). However, if you are going to redeem a pile of Ultimate gift cards in one instore transaction, my suggestion would be to “prepare” the gift cards before you take it to the store (e.g. remove from packaging, scratching to remove the PIN), as well as going whilst it is not particularly busy. Trust me, staff will be happier to serve you if you go in prepared, as you will tie up a staff member for a few minutes whilst you swipe and punch in PINs for multiple gift cards.

      • +3

Wow amazing! Thank you for this breakdown. How can you tell which ones are Visa and EFTPOS? Had no idea that one would work and one wouldn’t so thanks for that info!

        • +1
          • @WookieMonster: Thank you again. So Kids and Teens don't come in $100 denomination? Going to need 34 if I want the option to have JBHIFI and Officeworks. 😵‍💫

            • @cloudspires: I don’t think any retailer sells a $100 denomination for the Kids or Teens gift cards. There is the variable load denomination, but that is excluded from this deal.

              • @WookieMonster: Ahkay, think I'll just stick with the HIM $100 cards then. Just realised I'll be planning on trading in my current device for credit at JBHIFI so will need fewer gift cards. Have you or anyone else had any experience with their Trade in program?

                • @cloudspires: If you see $100 Home gift cards, grab them, as they have JB Hi-Fi and Officeworks.

Have you or anyone else had any experience with their Trade in program?

                  Nope.

                  • @WookieMonster: I thought the promo was just on Her, Him, Kids, Teens and Active cards? Or wait, it's 15% Ultimate Gift Cards so does this mean all of them including Home, Students, Eats, etc?

                    • +2

@cloudspires: The way in which Coles has written this deal makes me think it is for all Ultimate gift cards (excluding the variable load denomination). Here’s why:

                      • The title of the deal in the Coles catalogue is for Ultimate Gift Cards. If Coles only wanted some Ultimate gift cards to earn bonus points, they would have done what they did in the past and list out the specific gift cards in the title.

                      • The fine print in the catalogue only lists Excludes Variable Load Ultimate Gift Cards as the exclusion. In the past, if Coles listed specific gift cards in the title, they would also include in the fine print Excludes all Ultimate Gift Cards not listed above, but that is not the case for this deal.

                      • Last year’s 15% off Ultimate gift card deal was written similarly to this particular deal, and last year’s 15% off deal included Ultimate gift cards not pictured in the catalogue (including the Students gift card).

                      • During a previous Ultimate gift card deal at Coles, that deal did not list particular Ultimate gift cards in the title (besides $50 and $100 denominations) and the fine print only excluded the $30 denomination.1 I purchased Ultimate gift cards not pictured in the catalogue and still received bonus points.

                      • During another previous Ultimate gift card deal at Coles, that deal did not list any Ultimate gift cards as exclusions, and I received bonus points on an Ultimate gift card not pictured in that deal.

Keep in mind that Coles could have stuffed up the advertising for this particular deal and forgot to exclude particular Ultimate gift cards (beyond just the variable load denomination), but history suggests that this deal is for all $30, $50 and $100 Ultimate gift cards sold at Coles.

                      1. The variable load denomination was not sold at Coles at this stage, which is the reason that it is not mentioned in the deal.

                      • +2

@WookieMonster: You are an absolute gem! Thank you! From the way I read the ad too in the catalogue, it suggests on all cards so fingers crossed! Coming up with what I plan to get before I head in store first thing on Wednesday morning so I'm prepared and this helps a lot.

      • woudl you happen to know why theres different denominations with these? I taake it that its got something to do with the proportional spending?

        • I don’t think there is a specific reason. I really think it is simply because they can.

      • Hi mate,
i dont see ultimate home or everyone in this deal/catalogue. Can you confirm if these are included in this deal ?

    • +3

I just bought a new MacBook Pro 14 inch last week using 17 gift cards with no issues! Was able to price match with Officeworks to get it for cheaper than the 10% off they were having at JB. If you see it anywhere cheaper you should get them to price match for you.

    • It's fine, I used 25 x $100 cards to buy a iPhone. I did go prepared and had all the cards out of the sleeve and the pin bit scratched. The receipt ended up being 2.2 meters long (Yes I measured it when I got home).

  • Can anyone comment is this the right one(visa one ) it doesn’t have any JB Hi-Fi logo on it , will this work in JB HI FI . Thanks

    https://imgur.com/a/QMUQImQ

  • Has anyone used these cards at 99 bikes? Thanks!

@WookieMonster…am I right in reading that from your earlier post, both versions can be used at 99 bikes as they both have the logo? Thanks!

    • Yep, that’s correct.

(And no, I have not used any Ultimate gift cards at 99 Bikes.)

      • +1

        Thanks @WookieMonster :-)

    • +1

nope but cant imagine you having any issues

  • will buying these gift cards count my $50 for 4 weeks promotion?

    • +1

I highly doubt it, as I have never been able to trigger those kinds of Flybuys promotions with purchases of gift cards.

    • +1

gift cards don't count. it's in the T&Cs

  • The Kids and Teens cards do not work at Officeworks according to what I found at my Coles, see picture.

    https://imgur.com/a/0OXX6N5

    • +1

The Kids and Teens gift cards you spotted at your local Coles have the old gift card packaging with an outdated list of participating retailers.

There have been three or four production runs for physical Ultimate gift cards, and only the latest production run (June 2022) included Officeworks on the front of the gift card packaging. This is due to Officeworks only starting to accept Ultimate gift cards as a payment method from the end of September 2022.

What you need to keep in mind is that participating retailers change for at least one Ultimate gift card every few weeks, so the gift card packaging can quickly become out of date.

The Ultimate gift card terms and conditions also makes it very clear that the full and updated list of participating retailers is on the Ultimate gift card website. This was also confirmed by a Blackhawk Network rep.

You should only rely on the gift card packaging if you are looking for an Ultimate gift card that works at rebel, BCF or Supercheap Auto. Those retailers are being phased out of the Ultimate gift card scheme, so only physical Ultimate gift cards with those logos on the packaging will continue to work at those retailers.

For reference, I purchased Ultimate Teens and Kids gift cards at Woolworths with the outdated packaging in October 2022 and successfully redeemed them at Officeworks.

  • +1

How do you redeem these cards at JB? Does it work as a CC or can it actually be converted to JB gift cards online? I would like to convert them to be on the safe side.

    • +1

You redeem this card like any other Visa card or EFTPOS card at JB Hi-Fi.

You can try and use an Ultimate (Visa) gift card with JB Hi-Fi as a participating retailer to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card on the JB Hi-Fi website. You can read about it here, but I will warn you this is very hit-or-miss.

You cannot exchange an Ultimate gift card’s balance for a JB Hi-Fi gift card through the Ultimate gift card website. This has not been possible for more than a year.

      • Thank you mate.
So I guess my best option is to go into store and just try exchange them for JB gift cards right?

        • Yes, but you'll need to be aware that it is technically against JB Hi-Fi policy to do that, so you will likely run into a staff member who will not let you do this if they realise what you're trying to do.

          • @WookieMonster: Can always buy and return something but I was told at my local JB that they count as efptos cards so not sure as to why they wouldn't let you do this. They dont treat these cards as gift cards in my opinion. I could be wrong though.

@thousandsuns: JB Hi-Fi's checkout system treats Ultimate gift cards the same as any Visa or EFTPOS card, so if you tell a JB Hi-Fi staff member you want to pay by card, you should be fine.

If you want to be extra stealthy, add your Ultimate (Visa) gift card to your mobile wallet of choice first and then tap your mobile phone against the EFTPOS terminal.

              • @WookieMonster: say i bought 3x$30 Ultimate Teens GC and want to buy JB Hifi gift cards in store, do you think i would have to buy 3 separate $30 JB gift cards or buy 1x $90GC. How do i go about paying using the Mobile Wallet method if thats even possible or best way is to tell the JB Staff i have 3 cards to pay for it

                • @asian bargain hunter: Honestly, it’s a roll of the dice.

Some staff will be happy to split payments without any questions, some will ask lots of questions and others will simply say no.

Personally, I would “risk it” by asking to purchase a $90 Ultimate Teens gift card and asking to split three ways. If you add the three Ultimate Teens gift cards to your mobile wallet of choice before you get to the store, it will make the checkout experience faster. You don’t have to add the gift cards to the mobile wallet; the last time I purchased an Apple gift card at JB Hi-Fi using an Ultimate gift card, I swiped the gift card on the EFTPOS terminal and the staff member didn’t even react at all. To be fair, I only used one card… There have been other times where staff get suspect as soon as I swipe again, so again, it’s a roll of the dice.

Actually, wouldn’t it be worth trying to purchase a $30 JB Hi-Fi gift card through the JB Hi-Fi website (either by entering the card details into the checkout or using Apple Pay on an Apple device)? The gift card value is low that I would doubt the fraud detection system will stop you, but I could be wrong…

                  • @WookieMonster: Sorry if this has been asked before. So i will buy a $30 JB GC online paying with Ultimate Kids GC. It is asking for name of card (what do we put there), also what is the expiry date of the card? Then when i get the JB GC, gonna try but a $60 JB GC and use $30 i just received plus another Ultimate card.

For physical Ultimate gift cards, you can literally use anything. Homer Simpson, John Doe, Jane Doe, Mickey Mouse…

what is the expiry date of the card?

For physical Ultimate gift cards, it's 12/29
