Welcome to the ultimate guide of the Google One subscription

Updates:

  • 28/06/2023 - New corrected AUD prices, which reflects the significant drop due to Turkey's current economy situation (this deal is an ALL TIME LOW!) All prices in this guide are current as of 28 June 2023.**
  • 28/06/2023 - Additional methods on sign-ups (for those who could not previously sign up via Google Pay, I've now found the solution by using a Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard).
  • 28/06/2023 - At the end of this post are many of the detailed guides I've created.

Reposting this deal from last year just in case anyone missed it, however this post will be better than the previous one and will include more detailed information to help those trying to jump on board the ship. Oh, and prices are even cheaper.

Modern problems require modern solutions. Like Xbox Game Passes, Spotify Premium, Youtube, Netflix, Discord, Google One, Microsoft 365, relocating (virtually of course) to Turkey is usually the best option, with some methods saving hundreds or thousands of dollars each year added up.

YES - you can share your Google One subscription with your Google Family Group, however, this may affect those who use an Android device (or any device that utilises the Google Play store). If anyone in your Google Family has an Android device, please see NOTES section below the end of the post description BEFORE signing up to this deal

Instructions (No Current Subscription)

Please read the following instructions carefully. I've tested it on iPhone and PC (windows), so here's my experience - and it took literally minutes.

Note: If you plan on sharing your Google One subscription with any family members (or others), you must add your Australian family members / accounts into a Google family group before signing up to Turkey Google One subscription, otherwise you will get the following error: "Looks like you're in a different country from the family manager". To add family members, go to: https://families.google.com/families

Step 1: Add any family members to your Google Family Group if needed: https://families.google.com/families

Step 2: Add a Google payment profile for Turkey if you don't have one yet. If needed, use a fake address generator to obtain a random Turkey address for the payment profile. You can create a new payment profile by following these steps: go to https://pay.google.com/gp/w/u/0/home/settings and clicking the pen icon next to "Country/Region" and a link to create a new profile should pop up. You can then add details for the Turkish profile.

Step 3: Connect a VPN to the server in Turkey (see Notes section for suggestions)

Step 4: Go to https://one.google.com/about/plans and if it shows currency in TRY (Turkish Lira), continue choosing your membership. Pay using a credit/debit card (preferedly with no international fees)

  • Possible Problem 1: Prices are still showing in AUD or pricing initially shows in Turkish Lira but switches back to AUD after you select your plan
  • Possible Solution 1: You might see that the 3 plan columns show Australian pricing, but after selecting the desired plan and going to next screen, it might change to TRY currency. If this happens, then great - just proceed and pay. If it stays in AUD pricing, double check your VPN service or switch to another one. If this fails, you may have to delete your Australian payment profile (you can always make a new one after, but be aware that deleting your Australian profile may destroy all your Google Play Credits and possibly your previous app purchases as well - See Notes section below). Deleting your Australian payments profile will only affect you if you (the person signing up) is an Android user.

  • Possible Problem 2: Error message when paying "Your transaction can't be completed. To continue this transaction, secure your account. Learn more about securing accounts"

  • Possible Solution 2: Turn off VPN then try to pay again. If this doesn't work, delete your debit/credit card off the payment profile and redo all the steps again - when you go to pay it will ask you to enter a new card - try and use a different one and it should work.

Step 5: Fly back home and turn off your VPN

Step 6: To share with family members, you need to turn on family sharing after signing up to share the storage. To do this, go to https://one.google.com/settings, then click "Manage Family Settings" and toggle it on.

Step 7: YOU'RE DONE! WOOO! Enjoy your savings :)

Instructions (Transferring from a different country)

Please read the following instructions carefully. I've tested it on iPhone and PC (windows), so here's my experience - and it took literally minutes.

Probably not the best to transfer as I’m not sure if signing up while having an active subscription will stack on, and there’s no point paying for a whole year if you still got like 5 months left (for example). If you have a current Australian Google One sub, best to cancel it, let the sub period expire then sign up fresh using Instructions above (rather than the one below)

Step 1: Go to https://play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions, locate your Google One subscription, click "Manage", then proceed to "Cancel Subscription". Once cancelled, the current subscription will continue until the end of the billing period. But you now have an option to subscribe back to Google One.

Step 2: Add any family members to your Google Family Group if needed: https://families.google.com/families

Step 3: Add a Google payment profile for Turkey if you don't have one yet.

Step 4: Connect a VPN to the server in Turkey (see Notes section for suggestions)

Step 5: Go to https://one.google.com/about/plans and if it shows currency in TRY (Turkish Lira), continue choosing your membership. Pay using a credit/debit card (preferedly with no international fees)

  • Possible Problem 1: Prices are still showing in AUD (or whatever India if you have Youtube Premium via India or pricing initially shows in Turkish Lira but switches back to AUD after you select your plan

Step 7: To share with family members, you need to turn on family sharing after signing up to share the storage. To do this, go to https://one.google.com/settings, then click "Manage Family Settings" and toggle it on.

Step 8: YOU'RE DONE! WOOO! Enjoy your savings :)

Notes (Important)

  • If everyone in the Google Family is an iPhone user, just follow the instructions above - there will be no problems, as deleting your Australian payment profile will not affect you at all.

If at least one account in the Google Family uses an Android Device/Google Play Store, please read this:

  • Once you sign up to Google One via Turkey, every Google account in the family will relocate to Turkey, even if the other accounts don’t have a Turkey payment profile. The only fix that I have seen right now is to delete the Turkey payment profile on the account that was used to sign up to Google One - that will revert all accounts to the Australian Play Store. However, be aware that deleting your Australian profile may destroy all your Google Play Credits and possibly your previous app purchases as well. However, we can think of a workaround below to make sure everyone in the family has access to the Australian Play Store after signing up to Google One:

    • If anyone in the family has an Android device using the Google Play Store:

We know that anyone in the family group can sign up to Google One and share it with the rest of the family. Given that it is likely the person signing up has to delete their Australian payment profile, use the account who is not an android (one who uses an iPhone/iOS device) to sign up (that way, deleting the Australian payment profile won't affect anything as iPhone users don't utilise the Google Play Store anyway). Do not use the family manager's account to sign up (if they are an Android user) because deleting the Australian payments profile could mean you may lose complete access to your Google Play Credits and possibly your previous app purchases. Follow the instructions section above, making sure you add a Turkey payment profile and remove your Australian payment profile. After signing up to Google One, share it with your family group as per instructions. At the end, delete your Turkey payment profile (and add a new Australian one in if you wish) and everyone in the family will have access again to the Australian Play Store (including the Family Manager, who was unaffected by this method). By deleting your Turkey payment method, the Google One subscription effectively cancels (you will still get the full year access before it expires) and you’ll just need to sign up again and redo this every year

  • If the above method does not work for some reason and you really need Australian apps, I guess the workaround for this would be to create another Google account purely for downloading apps from the Google Play Store

UPDATE: According to atlas:

To avoid all your devices changing to the Turkish play store, all you need to do is:

  1. Make sure the family manager is an Australian account
  2. Use a different account (ie. Burner account) to join the family and setup Turkish payment profile
  3. Setup Google One, share, and away you go.

Result: Main account gets shared storage and keeps Australian profile.

  • Most VPN services will connect to Turkey, unlike India. Those include NordVPN, Private Internet Access (PIA), free Windscribe Chrome extension (recommended), ExpressVPN, etc. If one doesn't work, use another VPN

    • If you're using Windscribe and it shows different currencies: keep turning the windscribe on and off. Each time you don't get TRY, turn it off and on, then refresh the Google One sign up page. You'll eventually land on TRY. Go to https://whatismyipaddress.com/ each time you turn it off/on and see if you land on Istanbul

FAQ

Q: Can the family manager see who is using what amount of storage?
A: Yes, you can view the breakdown here: https://one.google.com/storage

Q: Does the Family Manager have to be the one signing up to Google One?
A: No, anyone in the family can sign up to Google One and share it with the rest of the family.

Q: Will I get banned by Google?
A: There’s always a chance, however only a tiny number of people (<5) have actually gotten suspended by Google (see linked previous post in OP). Proceed at your own risk.

Please note the process can be easy for some people, harder for others, or may not work at all.

  • There is no need for aggression in instances where you are unable to subscribe to an international Netflix account. Share your experience so everyone can chip in and help out. There are plenty of examples where hacks shared on this platform do not work for some people, but may work for others:

    • Modem reset for faster internet,
    • Cash back program purchase tracking,
    • Price matching an unobtainable deal or price error,
    • Targeted bargains, and
    • Limited quantity items quickly or instant (bot) sellout.
  • Similarly we know there are cash back users who follow every single step for cash back (turn off ad blocker, have no items in cart, do not click other links, etc.) on their purchases and it does not work, its probably best to move on.There are many users who successfully use this hack and enjoy paying half the price of the Australian membership. Unfortunately there are also many users who have been unable to sign up to Netflix Turkey or Argentina. After all it is intended for people who reside in Turkey or Argentina. If it does not work, I am not affiliated with any of the entities listed below or linked to and cannot guarantee any outcome. I can only read comments on this platform and others to share them with you. Your patience is appreciated. Please do not take it personally.

So what is the use case for this anyone?
Seems too dangerous to use on your main account, and if not on main account, what is then the purpose of the storage?

    • Purchase on a dummy account and share to the main via Family Sharing?

  • +5

One potential problem is you won't get google survey credit, which is about $120/yr for me, which pays for my google one account & plenty of free stuff.

    • Wtf that's good coin. How

      • +2

Apparently Woolies, JB, BigW, 1st Choice, all like my option. Obviously Google is the antithesis of my wife and Kids

    • Same thing for me, Google Rewards pay everything. Coles, Woolworths, BigW, Priceline, etc

      • How do you do that?

  • Will it save more if I cancel and re-subscribe since I joined last year?

    • +1

Nope, you’ll get charged whatever the current conversion rate is. Just leave it

      • I'm not sure you can continue your subscription throughout the year if you have already signed up in Turkey???

        • What do you mean exactly?

          • @I Smell Pennies: Can you continue your subscription if its cancelled?

I just checked mine and it doesnt let me add extra time? Interesting.

  • +3

I have encountered the two problems op mentioned and all solved with the two solutions. 👍

    • Wow thank you 🙏🏽 I’m glad I got it right and it helped you

  • +3

Probably not going to use that much storage, but I feel like I owe it to OP for upvote for the massive effort in explaining steps by step.. Hats off..

Hi OP. Thanks again for this post. You are a legend! I have a question…I have currently have a 200GB account that I share with my family (almost full at 190Gb). There is NOBODY in my family with an iOS device (we all run Android). Here is what I was thinking…Create a BRAND NEW Gmail account as the new MASTER EMAIL and subscribe to the Turkey deal. I will create this on a PC? I can then add my original email and my other family members to this new MASTER EMAIL (and then cancel my 200Gb subscription). Thoughts?

    • +3

Hey there Tony, thanks for your comment. That idea would be great! Thinking outside the box - I love it!

      So here’s what I’m thinking…

      Scenario:

      we all run Android

Since you have an existing family, please don’t leave the family as you won’t be able to join a new family for 12 months

      My solution:

Create a BRAND NEW Gmail account as the new MASTER EMAIL and subscribe to the Turkey deal.

Then add this brand new account to your existing family. This account will be the one used to sign up to Google One (but it won’t be the master email, or the family manager - it’ll simply be a regular account). Add a Turkey payment profile to this new acc and sign up as usual. Afterwards everyone in the family will have a Turkey Play Store. Delete the Turkey payment profile and everyone should get their Australian Play Store back.

I think this is the only method that works - I haven’t actually tried it yet so beware of what I say and read other forums I’ve linked to previously. Also other comments on this thread could be useful. When I find time over the next few days I’ll do some testing

      • +1

        Awesome, mate. Thank you :)

      • I might give this a go also.

      • @I Smell Pennies were you able to test this? I'm in the same boat, and I have two family members attached to my YT premium on the main, so I'm afraid to go ahead with this. I do have a Turkish Google account that I used for Disney+, so I'm guessing I can add that to my family, then sign up using the Turkish account?

        • @chet I haven't sorry

          • +1

@I Smell Pennies: @I Smell Pennies No worries! I can test it out, my Google One runs out on the 28th on the main, so I'll report back on the 1st of March. Great writeup btw!

            • @chet: Thank you. Doing it for the team. If it works, I'll feature you in the OP. Goodluck :)

              • +1

@I Smell Pennies: @I Smell Pennies

Just got it working for me!

For some reason, Windscribe wasn't connecting to Turkey on my PC, so I used the Getflix app on my iPhone to connect to Turkey, but I guess the Windscribe app could do the exact same thing. Here's the steps that worked for me.

                • Open the Getflix/Windscribe app and connect to Turkey
                • Check your IP address to make sure it's connected to Turkey
                • Open a Chrome/Incognito window without a Google account logged in and go to the Google One plans page
                • Select your plan, then create a new Google account. Use an Australian phone number
                • You'll be prompted to add your credit card details. ING Everyday card worked for me. Keep the Turkish location, you won't be prompted to enter an address
                • Confirm that the plan has been added to this account
I was able to do the following on my PC:
                • On the main account holder, go to your Google Families page and add the new Google account
                • On the new account, don't accept the invite because it will fail
                • Instead, head to the Google Pay page, add a new payment profile for Australia
                • Once this has been added, at the top of the page, select the Turkish payment profile
                • Scroll to the bottom and click Close Payments Profile
                • Enter your password to close the Turkish profile
                • Go to Gmail and accept the Family Invite
                • Head to the Google One page, click the Settings cog > Manage Family Sharing and switch this to On
                • On your main accounts, head to something like Gmail or Google Photos and confirm that you have the shared storage. Mine does say 2.1TB because the main account still has access to Google One until tomorrow, and I didn't want to loose access to sending and receiving emails.

As the Turkish payment profile has been deleted, it may try to charge your AU card. In that case, I would cancel after signing up to avoid this, and make sure you have two family member slots if you want to alternate between accounts.

  • +1

fantastic write up as always :)

  • My current AUS annual subscription expires on October 2023. Will I get a refund if I cancel?

    • T&Cs say no, however you can always ask Google support. They refunded my Google One sub when I was doing testing last year. However given you’re nearly half way through, I don’t know

      • Thanks

  • +4

Are there similar deals for Microsoft 365 subscriptions?

    • Curious about this too!

  • Thanks for the detailed post. However, just a correction that profit will be 64.93% for 10 TB monthly plan.

    • Thank you, I’ll update the post :)

  • Looking for some similar deal in Netflix. Please help find one. Used YouTube trick already.

    • +1
      • My man.

Thanks for writing this up. I followed the tried doing it a few days ago and stuffed up as i didnt add my main account to the dummy family account BEFORE making payment. Ill try again with your guide.

Anyway, sooooo. You got any way to get around paying full price for spotify? :D

  • Nice writeup but it would be nice to see a column showing the annual price in AUD (same as your title)

    • +1

      Have I not done that?

      • oops you have too, soz didn't notice the 2nd table

  • For existing customers on Google One under steps in Instructions (Transferring from a different country)

Does we need to toggle the Manage Family Settings to off prior to subscribing for the new Google One and then toggle back to on again as in Step 7?

Step 7: To share with family members, you need to turn on family sharing after signing up to share the storage. To do this, go to https://one.google.com/settings, then click "Manage Family Settings" and toggle it on.

    • I’m not too sure, I don’t think so? If anyone knows please comment :)

  • max storage i can see is oly 2TB, anyone know how to see 2TB+ on monthly or yearly?

    • I seem to only get those options after signing up to the 2TB plan. Not sure but you can try sign up to the 1 month 44c plan and if there’s an option to upgrade to 2TB+ (you can definitely upgrade and downgrade, but I’m not sure to what extent)

    • SIGNUP for 2TB, once its done goto upgrade again, you can go up to 30 TB

      • Thanks, let’s see how Google manages to backup 70k photos

What happen if I have got a exisitng Google one plan with 200G storage and currently I have 120G in my cloud drive.
How to transfer to Turkey without affecting my existing data?
    Thanks

    • +1

Best to just let it expire first then hop on to this deal, rather than transferring

      • Thanks. When it expires, will I still have my data or they will be deleted?

        • +1

You still have access yes, you just can’t upload more

          • @I Smell Pennies: Thank you. If that is the case, should I cancel my current subscription then?

  • +5

To avoid all your devices changing to the Turkish play store, all you need to do is:
    1. Make sure the family manager is an Australian account
    2. Use a different account (ie. Burner account) to join the family and setup Turkish payment profile
    3. Setup Google One, share, and away you go.

Result: Main account gets shared storage and keeps Australian profile.

    • Oh very interesting. So it seems the family manager is the one that controls every account (I mean.. duh 🤦🏽‍♂️)

So as long as we don’t relocate family manager to Turkey, everyone stays in Australia and gets the Aus Play Store.

      Thanks! I’ll add to OP

      • Do either of you know whether there is there a way to switch the family manager after the manager is already the Turkish burner account?

Without cancelling the family group, as there's already a sub in place etc

        • I don't think so - I think cancelling is the only way. But I would assume subs follow the individual account and can be shared with the new family?

    • +1

Don't you get the message saying something about 'family member is another country'?

If not, defs going to try this

      • Nope - follow the steps in the exact order. Join the group whilst you have the AUD profile, then change to TRY after joining

    • Seems no matter what I do the burner will show AUD while within the Australian family… I can't get it to display Turkish pricing at all unless I leave the group.

At this stage I think what works is:
      - Start family with main account with Australian payment method
      - Create burner account and pay for the subscription with Turkish payment method
      - Kill the Turkish payment method in the burner
      - Add an Australian payment method so you can join the Australian Family Group
      - In Google One settings, turn on Share Google One with family

When the subscription is due for renewal the burner will need to leave the group, change payment method from Australian to Turkish and repeat the steps.

      Is this correct?

If anyone has any other solutions please let me know!

      • Solution found here!

Price will display as AUD for the burner account but will charge in TRY with TRY prices!!!!

      • Yes you need to click through past the AUD pricing to get actually charged TRY

    • I tried to do this but it says that we are not in the same country and it wont work

    • Now I hv a Burner account with Turkish profile on One Subscription. My main AU account has several payment profiles (US for domains, IN for YouTube and AU for all other stuff - but I also hv a Turkish Payment profile)….cannot add AU profile to Burner account with One Sub…where am I going wrong?

  • what are people storing so big that they dont have privacy concerns

  • I signed up on main account n bought the storage.

Now i am trying to add my REAL account in family group n encountering this error

    Can't join family group
It looks like you're not in the same country as the person who invited you. Learn more

I tried to set my REAL account address to Turkiye add but its still giving me same error.

    Any thoughts?

    • I did note that you will have to get your family together before signing up to this deal, because after you won’t be able to

      • Ya i realised that now :)

  • +2

I wish it was as simple as signing up for YT premium :(
I am willing to pay to anyone to get it working for me. Lol

    • Delete your Australian payment profile and create a Turkey one. Be aware of all the notes in the OP though. Such as stuck in Turkey.

  • +1

I have tried everything and it's still showing me Australian plans.

    • Try deleting all your payment profile and setting up and signing up for a new payment profile with a foreign address

  • Given I have the mixture of iOS and android devices
and using Google One tax invoice to claim tax deduction as work related expenses
seems not worth the risk of moving to turkey …

Anyway, appreciate OP's detailed explanation and steps, definitely worth a upvote!

  • Yandex drive is way cheaper

    • I believe Google One is more than just cloud storage
The entire family can share the same storage quota including the use of Google Photo, Drive, Gmail etc
which I believe its not an easy move to Yandex for all these services

    • AU pricing or TRY?

      • I got the same problem as you and solved it with this

        cmm

  • Need this for Adobe. So expensive.

  • A++++ for effort

  • Legend!

  • Hi OP, worked like a charm, I used a spare email address to do all the payment stuff. Deleted the Turkish payment profile and added an Australian one.

Now the question is, what happens after a year? There is no subscription linked to my profile anymore.

    • Actually found this in my subs, TRY 289.99/ year
      Cancels on 16 Jan 2024

We might need to go through this again before it renews, otherwise it will automatically cancel.

      • Tempted to get this with my 2nd account. But if we need to repeat each year, I dunno if I want to risk my account from being banned? Thanks for your info btw.

Good deal if you are willing to risk that this could end at any moment.

I'd much rather OndeDrive for $90/yr, includes Office and 6 X 1TB accounts.

    • I think they dropped the price of OneDrive with a new basic plan which would be even cheaper than $90/yr?
      This apparently USD20 /yr for 100gb
      Edit: doesn't include office

He is talking about the One Drive Family Plan with 6 X 1 TB account

    • I do have the One Drive Family Account for the same reason.

However, I am having a lot of issues syncing plus One Drive seems to be using 20% of my CPU resources as "something" seems to be always going in the background.

Google Drive has been very reliable fast in Syncing with no errors

Any possible tips for One Drive

  • Anyone know if this stacks? I was successful with the last deal so I currently have a 2TB annual plan that I still have 6 months on. I deleted my payment method and wonder how I will go about renewing it?

    Thanks guys

Can you stack multiple years at once? Saving the hassle to renew and worry about payment profile next year.

    • This is exactly what I'm worried about. And if my 20 year-old Google account somehow got banned as a result of this I'd be screwed.

  • So if I'm already paying for Disney+ through Google Play/turkey on my secondary account, I'm better off to using this account and share with my main account?

  • Does this also work with Google Workspace plans?

For those who can't be bothered but want free subscription….download the Google rewards app, answer a few survey questions every week and you'll have enough google store credit to just purchase with an Australian subscription. This is what I'm doing now. Works well.

Each survey takes about 10 seconds or less and gives you 10c to 70c depending on answers.
