Welcome to the ultimate guide of the Google One subscription

Updates:

  • 28/06/2023 - New corrected AUD prices, which reflects the significant drop due to Turkey's current economy situation (this deal is an ALL TIME LOW!) All prices in this guide are current as of 28 June 2023.**
  • 28/06/2023 - Additional methods on sign-ups (for those who could not previously sign up via Google Pay, I've now found the solution by using a Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard).
  • 28/06/2023 - At the end of this post are many of the detailed guides I've created.

Reposting this deal from last year just in case anyone missed it, however this post will be better than the previous one and will include more detailed information to help those trying to jump on board the ship. Oh, and prices are even cheaper.

Modern problems require modern solutions. Like Xbox Game Passes, Spotify Premium, Youtube, Netflix, Discord, Google One, Microsoft 365, relocating (virtually of course) to Turkey is usually the best option, with some methods saving hundreds or thousands of dollars each year added up.

YES - you can share your Google One subscription with your Google Family Group, however, this may affect those who use an Android device (or any device that utilises the Google Play store). If anyone in your Google Family has an Android device, please see NOTES section below the end of the post description BEFORE signing up to this deal

Instructions (No Current Subscription)

Please read the following instructions carefully. I've tested it on iPhone and PC (windows), so here's my experience - and it took literally minutes.

Note: If you plan on sharing your Google One subscription with any family members (or others), you must add your Australian family members / accounts into a Google family group before signing up to Turkey Google One subscription, otherwise you will get the following error: "Looks like you're in a different country from the family manager". To add family members, go to: https://families.google.com/families

Step 1: Add any family members to your Google Family Group if needed: https://families.google.com/families

Step 2: Add a Google payment profile for Turkey if you don't have one yet. If needed, use a fake address generator to obtain a random Turkey address for the payment profile. You can create a new payment profile by following these steps: go to https://pay.google.com/gp/w/u/0/home/settings and clicking the pen icon next to "Country/Region" and a link to create a new profile should pop up. You can then add details for the Turkish profile.

Step 3: Connect a VPN to the server in Turkey (see Notes section for suggestions)

Step 4: Go to https://one.google.com/about/plans and if it shows currency in TRY (Turkish Lira), continue choosing your membership. Pay using a credit/debit card (preferedly with no international fees)

  • Possible Problem 1: Prices are still showing in AUD or pricing initially shows in Turkish Lira but switches back to AUD after you select your plan
  • Possible Solution 1: You might see that the 3 plan columns show Australian pricing, but after selecting the desired plan and going to next screen, it might change to TRY currency. If this happens, then great - just proceed and pay. If it stays in AUD pricing, double check your VPN service or switch to another one. If this fails, you may have to delete your Australian payment profile (you can always make a new one after, but be aware that deleting your Australian profile may destroy all your Google Play Credits and possibly your previous app purchases as well - See Notes section below). Deleting your Australian payments profile will only affect you if you (the person signing up) is an Android user.

  • Possible Problem 2: Error message when paying "Your transaction can't be completed. To continue this transaction, secure your account. Learn more about securing accounts"

  • Possible Solution 2: Turn off VPN then try to pay again. If this doesn't work, delete your debit/credit card off the payment profile and redo all the steps again - when you go to pay it will ask you to enter a new card - try and use a different one and it should work.

Step 5: Fly back home and turn off your VPN

Step 6: To share with family members, you need to turn on family sharing after signing up to share the storage. To do this, go to https://one.google.com/settings, then click "Manage Family Settings" and toggle it on.

Step 7: YOU'RE DONE! WOOO! Enjoy your savings :)

Instructions (Transferring from a different country)

Please read the following instructions carefully. I've tested it on iPhone and PC (windows), so here's my experience - and it took literally minutes.

Probably not the best to transfer as I’m not sure if signing up while having an active subscription will stack on, and there’s no point paying for a whole year if you still got like 5 months left (for example). If you have a current Australian Google One sub, best to cancel it, let the sub period expire then sign up fresh using Instructions above (rather than the one below)

Step 1: Go to https://play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions, locate your Google One subscription, click "Manage", then proceed to "Cancel Subscription". Once cancelled, the current subscription will continue until the end of the billing period. But you now have an option to subscribe back to Google One.

Step 2: Add any family members to your Google Family Group if needed: https://families.google.com/families

Step 3: Add a Google payment profile for Turkey if you don't have one yet.

Step 4: Connect a VPN to the server in Turkey (see Notes section for suggestions)

Step 5: Go to https://one.google.com/about/plans and if it shows currency in TRY (Turkish Lira), continue choosing your membership. Pay using a credit/debit card (preferedly with no international fees)

  • Possible Problem 1: Prices are still showing in AUD (or whatever India if you have Youtube Premium via India or pricing initially shows in Turkish Lira but switches back to AUD after you select your plan
Step 7: To share with family members, you need to turn on family sharing after signing up to share the storage. To do this, go to https://one.google.com/settings, then click "Manage Family Settings" and toggle it on.

Step 8: YOU'RE DONE! WOOO! Enjoy your savings :)

Notes (Important)

  • If everyone in the Google Family is an iPhone user, just follow the instructions above - there will be no problems, as deleting your Australian payment profile will not affect you at all.

If at least one account in the Google Family uses an Android Device/Google Play Store, please read this:

  • Once you sign up to Google One via Turkey, every Google account in the family will relocate to Turkey, even if the other accounts don’t have a Turkey payment profile. The only fix that I have seen right now is to delete the Turkey payment profile on the account that was used to sign up to Google One - that will revert all accounts to the Australian Play Store. However, be aware that deleting your Australian profile may destroy all your Google Play Credits and possibly your previous app purchases as well. However, we can think of a workaround below to make sure everyone in the family has access to the Australian Play Store after signing up to Google One:

    • If anyone in the family has an Android device using the Google Play Store:

We know that anyone in the family group can sign up to Google One and share it with the rest of the family. Given that it is likely the person signing up has to delete their Australian payment profile, use the account who is not an android (one who uses an iPhone/iOS device) to sign up (that way, deleting the Australian payment profile won't affect anything as iPhone users don't utilise the Google Play Store anyway). Do not use the family manager's account to sign up (if they are an Android user) because deleting the Australian payments profile could mean you may lose complete access to your Google Play Credits and possibly your previous app purchases. Follow the instructions section above, making sure you add a Turkey payment profile and remove your Australian payment profile. After signing up to Google One, share it with your family group as per instructions. At the end, delete your Turkey payment profile (and add a new Australian one in if you wish) and everyone in the family will have access again to the Australian Play Store (including the Family Manager, who was unaffected by this method). By deleting your Turkey payment method, the Google One subscription effectively cancels (you will still get the full year access before it expires) and you’ll just need to sign up again and redo this every year

  • If the above method does not work for some reason and you really need Australian apps, I guess the workaround for this would be to create another Google account purely for downloading apps from the Google Play Store

UPDATE: According to atlas:

To avoid all your devices changing to the Turkish play store, all you need to do is:

  1. Make sure the family manager is an Australian account
  2. Use a different account (ie. Burner account) to join the family and setup Turkish payment profile
  3. Setup Google One, share, and away you go.

Result: Main account gets shared storage and keeps Australian profile.

  • Most VPN services will connect to Turkey, unlike India. Those include NordVPN, Private Internet Access (PIA), free Windscribe Chrome extension (recommended), ExpressVPN, etc. If one doesn't work, use another VPN

    • If you're using Windscribe and it shows different currencies: keep turning the windscribe on and off. Each time you don't get TRY, turn it off and on, then refresh the Google One sign up page. You'll eventually land on TRY. Go to https://whatismyipaddress.com/ each time you turn it off/on and see if you land on Istanbul

FAQ

Q: Can the family manager see who is using what amount of storage?
A: Yes, you can view the breakdown here: https://one.google.com/storage

Q: Does the Family Manager have to be the one signing up to Google One?
A: No, anyone in the family can sign up to Google One and share it with the rest of the family.

Q: Will I get banned by Google?
A: There’s always a chance, however only a tiny number of people (<5) have actually gotten suspended by Google (see linked previous post in OP). Proceed at your own risk.

Please note the process can be easy for some people, harder for others, or may not work at all.

  • There is no need for aggression in instances where you are unable to subscribe to an international Netflix account. Share your experience so everyone can chip in and help out. There are plenty of examples where hacks shared on this platform do not work for some people, but may work for others:

    • Modem reset for faster internet,
    • Cash back program purchase tracking,
    • Price matching an unobtainable deal or price error,
    • Targeted bargains, and
    • Limited quantity items quickly or instant (bot) sellout.
  • Similarly we know there are cash back users who follow every single step for cash back (turn off ad blocker, have no items in cart, do not click other links, etc.) on their purchases and it does not work, its probably best to move on.There are many users who successfully use this hack and enjoy paying half the price of the Australian membership. Unfortunately there are also many users who have been unable to sign up to Netflix Turkey or Argentina. After all it is intended for people who reside in Turkey or Argentina. Upvote for the time,
but I would be to afraid that Google somehow decide to ban/lock accounts that use this kind of method. My account is worth more than this saving.

Not saying it will happen, but I've seen a numerous time people getting their Google account closed, and could not appeal.

    • This is what I am worried about. I can take risk for any other service but google account.

  • Thank you so much for this, I have successfully updated my plan for the prices you mention and thanks again for a such an amazing writeup and details.

WTF - I paid $25pa (I think AUD) for Google One 100GB a few months ago

    and now I see $4 for 200GB !?!?!?

"@ Google Turkey (VPN Required)" ? - meh

  • +15

Thank you so much for the efforts,

i think i have an easier solution to this, and no need for VPN to do it, which is actually what i did.

Firstly, the main reason for my method was for family sharing, and it actually worked perfect.

1- Create a new account, Australia, and add it to family members, doesnt matter who the admin is (mine was still my main account, which also have YT premium in it). and add payment method in it, your card the australian one.
2- make sure it is a family member (that is why it was created as australian account), then change country, payment address, and all information on the second account to turkey, no need for VPN, just settings in google. (change it through manage payment address).
3- login with the new account on your android device (add it as a secondary account on google play, without signing out of your primary).
4- open google one using your second account, and go to subscriptions, you'll find it all in AUD, do not worry.
5- Click on the package you want, even if it is in AUD, next (half window) which confirms payment will be in TL (NOT AUD) and will give you the numbers you mentioned in your post. just click the one you want and buy it, preferably yearly. (it will not be a case if you should add the payment to your account or whatever because your payment is already added as part of google pay from primary account if you didnt add your payment card in step 1).
6- you have to go to your settings of your secondary account and share storage (by default it is set to off because you are not admin).
7- simply through google play store switch back to your primary account and you'll have full access to 100% of storage capacity without any issues. and since your primary account is your admin account, you still can add whoever from your family to this tree.
8- if you have family package of YT premium, and since your secondary account is in your family package, you'll lose 1 slot of family members to your secondary account, that means you'll also have YT in your secondary account as well.

i did it my self and working with it no issues, and anytime i simply switch to my secondary account and upgrade or downgrade subscription at anytime without hassle of steps again. secondary account is fixed at turkey rates. and primary account is legit.

    • Where you say "change country, payment address, and all information on the second account to turkey", exactly where do you mean? I can't change my credit card payment details to Turkey (from Australia), Google says "you need to create a new payments profile to move to a new country". So do you mean I need to create a Turkey-based payment profile? If so do i have to close the Australian one?

      • Yes, you have to create a new Turkey profile and delete australian one, so you can set Turkey profile is default address.

do not forget to delete it AFTER YOU BECOME A FAMILY MEMBER.

        • Does the payment method address have to be the correct AUS one to match what my VISA card provider expects? Only the payment profile needs to be Turkey?

          • @juzdownunder: it has to be turkey, it wont matter the billing address for the bank, just put it as turkey all over your profile.

        • Hey mate, you're suggesting that on the secondary/turkey gmail account to remove the payment/address details after processing the transaction?

          • @whipcracker: Sorry, just noticed that i missed someone's question, apologies for late response.

no, after doing the payment, leave everything in the secondary account as it is, so you keep the turkish rates for future transactions.

what i meant by delete your address profile of secondary account was only to remove australian address ***AFTER**** you became part of family membership. otherwise if it was created turkish first, you'll not be able to accept invitation as you'll not be in the same country as admin.

    • Main account (family admin) still has full access to Australia play store with no issues?

      • 100%, using it daily , i mean minutely or even secondly. no issues at all, all payments working, actually not only payments, even apps preferences, all searches, everything as original, even indian YT premium is still working and sharing with family members.

    • +1

HAVE ALL MY UPVOTES! THIS IS CORRECT!
It shows as AUD but charges in TRY with the TRY price!

This is exactly what happened when I had my Turkey account as the family owner and had joined with my main Australian account - all prices shown were TRY but when I paid it was AUD!

I can't believe I didn't think to try the reverse haha!

    • Thanks for this! Worked perfectly.

    • Upvoting this, as I've just done this and it has worked fine. Took a while for the Google One app to show family settings to be able to share, so you might need to close and open the app again, or clear cache etc maybe. Winning :)

    • hi mate, I am sure I am following your instructoins word for word but in the end, i get an error 'Something went wrong on our end. Please try again later'

Could that be something on my main account causing this? i have tried making at least 3 burner accounts, same result

      • Hi mate,

can you please explain exactly what steps did you take? in details please all the way to the error.

      • hey mate, I am getting exactly the same error, even after 2 days thinking it could have been a glitch due to caching. Were you able to get it resolved?

    • Thanks for the write-up. Question, when you say to change payment details in the 2nd step, do I create a Turkey payment profile, then delete the Aus one? Or should I delete the Aus one first, before creating a Turkey profile?

      • +1

you cannot delete a profile and be profile-less, so you got to create turkey one first, then delete AU.

        • I went in to edit my aus payment settings and changed the address to a turkey one, without having to delete anything. Is this right?

Now when I go to step #4 and log in to google one with my phone using the turkey profile, it's telling me that I can't change my membership plan and that I have to "… talk to your plan manager"?

What have I done wrong here?

          Thanks for the help.

          • @highon2str: The problem here is that you've done this with your main account (from the error you already have), instead of creating a fresh account without messing anything in your main account.

your main account shouldn't be touched, leave it as it is.

            • @StarGrapper: I haven't touched my main account. I created a new account, added my CC, then made this new account a family member of my main account, then edited the payment details and changed it from an AUS address to a Turkey address.

But when logging in to Google one on my phone, using the new account, it's telling me to talk to the plan manager, which is the main account. It seems that the new account cannot buy or change any plans, since it is a part of the main account?

              • @highon2str: shouldn't affect at all.

something is wrong in what you said, or you misunderstood.

the secondary account shouldn't be able to change plant, all you got to do is to buy an individual plan for your secondary account, then you change share settings on both accounts.

share some screenshots (hide your email address in the photos so you are not reported and banned).

                • @StarGrapper: Where do I go on the Google one app (while logged in as the new account), to buy a new plan? I can't seem to find that option?

                • @StarGrapper:

"4- open google one using your second account, and go to subscriptions, you'll find it all in AUD, do not worry."

This is the step from your instructions that I seem to be having an issue with. I can't find the subscriptions page on the app? Unless Google have somehow discovered this loophole and have disabled it :(

                  • @highon2str:

                    • Open google one app.
                    • on the top right hand corner, make sure that you are on your secondary account. then go back to google one app home screen.
                    • Then scroll all the way down to the bottom, will show you subscribe or upgrade. continue from there.
                  • @highon2str: Also, even if your other accounts in the same family group have subscriptions, you still should be able to get a subscription or upgrade/downgrade your existing one.

lets keep this chat alive until you are subscribed.

                    • @StarGrapper: Thanks for helping out, I appreciate it, given your profile 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 😁

This is what I see on the secondary account google one app.

                    • @StarGrapper: Scrolling all the way down shows this, as you can see there is no option to "subscribe or upgrade".

                      • @highon2str: this is weird, and it says you already are subscribed on 31st of Jan, a week ago.

is this your secondary account? did you check top right corner? (says P)

                        • @StarGrapper: Yes, "P" is my secondary account. It says 31st Jan because that's when I created it and that is the date that it became a family member of my main account. It is subscribed based on the fact that my main account is already subscribed to the 200GB plan.

                        • @StarGrapper: Talking through this now, it is starting to make sense. It seems that I cannot use my secondary account to subscribe to a plan, while it is part of a family group which is already on an existing plan.

Do you think it would work if I removed the secondary account from the family group, then subscribed to a 2TB plan using the secondary account, then re-adding the secondary account to the family group? Would the storage be combined and shared that way?

                          • @highon2str: that is wrong, i already had my main account subscribed and sharing, then i joined my secondary account and subscribed as well.

then try to remove storage share from your primary account, then go back to secondary account which will show that you do not have storage, try that.

                            • @StarGrapper: Ok we have some progress! I removed sharing from the primary account. When I log back into google one with the secondary account, it now gives me the option to upgrade. However now I am having issues with this step:

5- Click on the package you want, even if it is in AUD, next (half window) which confirms payment will be in TL (NOT AUD) and will give you the numbers you mentioned in your post. just click the one you want and buy it, preferably yearly. (it will not be a case if you should add the payment to your account or whatever because your payment is already added as part of google pay from primary account if you didnt add your payment card in step 1).

After I've selected 2TB, it shows as AUD$124.99, but even after I select the next screen, in the bottom half where the half window appears, it is trying to charge me in AUD.

I've checked my secondary account on a laptop browser and when I select "payment method - edit", it is definitely showing my AUS credit card but with a Turkey address.

                              • +1

@highon2str: alright, so the problem is that your profile is still australia, you have to change it to turkey and DELETE australian profile.

                                • go to your secondary email on browser, manage account
                                • Payments & subscriptions
                                • Payment methods
                                • Addresses ( and change your address to Turkey, and delete your australian one). if you cant delete australian address, go to next step then return to this one.
                                • Settings (create new profile, and set it as Turkey, and use fake turkey address - you can find them online- and then DELETE australian profile, and keep only 1 profile which is the turkish profile).

let me know how you go.

                                • @StarGrapper: OK! That helped somewhat, thanks again. I realised I had a Turkey address card, but my address was still set to Australia like you said. So I've changed and only have 1 legal address now, which is a Turkey address.

Went back into the google one app on my phone using this secondary account, but still shows 2TB as AUD124.99. I might have to wait a couple of hours to see if this changes? 🤔🤔

                                  • @highon2str: You should change your profile in Settings, or actually, create a new profile and delete first.

there should be no delay, instant change.

Also, make sure to check second payment window, not first.

                                    • @StarGrapper: Ah yes I see that under settings I have 2 profiles. Had to click on the sneaky down arrow to show both profiles. I then scrolled to the bottom and closed the aus account.

Back into google one, secondary account, tap on 2TB option, wait for the half window to appear and now it states "Something went wrong on our end. Please try again."🥴

                                      • @highon2str: clear cash and data of your google one app, then open it again and try again.

                                        waiting your response

                                        • @StarGrapper: Cleared cache & data. Logged back in and the selection screen looks a bit different! But at the half window it still says something went wrong 🥲

                                          • @highon2str: That is strange, i really ran out of any ideas.

i'd suggest that you create another fresh email address with correct settings and try again. at least you know where your mistakes were.

                                        • @StarGrapper: Do you think it's because I used a made up street name for the Turkey address? Does it have to be an actual, real street name?

                                          • @highon2str: it could be, why dont you search for (Turkish fake address) on google, and it will give you full address with post code that is legit.

                                            • @StarGrapper: Used a legit Turkey address, cleared data+cache, still no go. I will delete this account and try setting up a new one again without making those mistakes. Thanks for helping this far! Fingers crossed! 🤞

                                            • @StarGrapper: Created a new gmail address and with Turkey payment method, payment profile and address. But still getting the "Something went wrong on our end. Please try again." error.

I'll leave it for a day and see if there is any difference tomorrow. Thanks for your help today!

                                              • @highon2str: seems that there is a wrong step you are doing, not sure what is it.

    • Thank you a lot - this worked. I was using a VPN set to Turkey and when I was about to pay, I was getting this error "Your transaction can't be completed. To continue this transaction, secure your account". So i disconnected the VPN and it worked.

    • Took me an hour to go through all the comments and problems. Your method is the one to follow! Successfully signed up and shared 2TB plan for the price of 100GB Aussie Plan. Thanks heaps! Willing to answer any questions for people that having trouble with the card payment and others.

    • Very, very late to this awesome comment and post. I'd look into this a few weeks back, wish I'd read this comment at the time - 100% works as described. Thank you all :)

    • @StarGrapper, thanks for your comment above.

I already subscribed to the 2TB plan on the burner account (Turkish payment profile), now I am going to add it to the family managed by my main account (Aus payment profile).

My question is if I just add a second Aus payment profile to my burner account, before adding it to the family, do you think that would be fine and won't result in changing the payment profile of all family members to the Turkish one?
Or do you think we will still need to remove the Turkish payment profile first before adding to the family?

Thank you very much for your help

      • in order to add a turkish payment, your account address has to be turkey, once you added the payment, then you can change default country but DO NOT CHANGE YOUR STORED PAYMENT.

Any changes to any of the accounts WILL NEVER affect other accounts. this account in turkish, the other one in indian, wont affect your main one.

Also, have you added the account to family member list before you do any of this? i doubt you'll be able to add it to family members now. because payment address is different.

in order to solve this, you might need to change your main account payment address to turky until the other account join family member list, then switch it back to AUS. (might work, might not). you missed step 1 which is the most important step in above.

      • i did it 2 days ago with a different app. you must be doing something wrong.

Also, i have just checked my google one account, still working perfect. another proof you doing something wrong.

          • @wizko: sometimes what happen is, because you still have your main account on google pay on the same phone. to sort this one out, you have to sign out from your main gmail account temporarily, sign in with your dummy account with turkish rates, buy your subscription, then return back to your original account. it is just taking your main gpay as your default.

another easier way, if you have a tablet or any old device, just use the dummy account on it and use it to subscribe. it will work.

    • Thanks mate, worked perfectly without messing about with VPNs etc.

    • @StarGrapper thanks so much for this, I will add this to my next guide, all credits to you!

    • Tried this method. Step 5 gives me "Something went wrong with our end. Please try again"

Also, this isn't mobile phone specific. If I want to purchase this on a laptop browser it gives me the same error.

      • I finally got this working.

        1. I deleted the original family group
        2. Recreated, used another account as the Main, and added everyone back in
        3. Followed the steps above
    • Hi StarGrapper. Thank you for the write up. I have a question for you.
I have existing Manager account with 100GB storage. I created a burner account, added to the family and signed up for 2TB. In my burner account, I can see total storage of 2.1TB. However, in my Manager account, I only see 100GB. Is this correct?

    • Hi. How do this do step 6 for the secondary account? I can't seem to be able to do it

    • Thanks so much for this. Does it make a difference if the family has an active Google one subscription already? All I can rly do is cancel the renewal though, it will be active til January

      • i am confident you can control which account to share the google one subscription, so you can add this one to yours and control which one is sharing or if both are sharing at same time, so won't harm, will just increase your account capacity for a while until either one is expired.

        sorry for late response.

  • Just wanted to say thank you for sharing.

Been on this plan for a year and it has been awesome using this without worrying about space!

From my personal experience, I would have a 2nd Gmail account to use this deal. I know the original transition can be daunting but once it is all setup, it has been very seamless and stress free :)

Hard pass. Sounds like a good way to screw up an account. Thanks anyway for all the effort OP.

    • That's why you use a burner account

  • +1

What I did was create a new family account and only use it to manage these kinds of subscriptions. Currently, I have Youtube Premium and Google One with overseas subscriptions then invite my own account and family member's account. Works great without screwing our Australian accounts. The only disadvantage is it takes away one spot.

  • can anyone help me to show me how to do this project
i really appriciated for contact me [email protected]
    thank you very much

for the life of me i cannot get this to work.. setup new email, confirmed address and vpn and linked family account but all i get is aus $ for google one even in incognito mode and then when i try to even click to purchase, it just says theres an error on there end and i cant proceed…. what am i doing wrong?

    • +1

Same problem for me, I think it's when you delete your Australian payment profile it also deletes your payment method (e.g. your VISA card). After trying for a while I gave up, removed the dummy account from my family and forgot about it for an hour or so. Then I went back into the dummy account just for a look and noticed Google One had changed to TRY currency. But I'd unjoined the family group, and couldn't re-join 'coz it wasn't in the same country. So maybe it's a timing thing….but I can't change the country back to AUS to rejoin the family group 'coz you can only change country once a year. I'll start again with a new dummy account at some point.

      • I had your same problem. I think it may prevent you from paying because your family has members from multiple countries. The moment i left the family with the turkish burner account it changed to TRY.

I created another TRY burner but haven't left the family yet, will try again in case its a timing thing like you said

  • Does anyone know, if I sign up for a 100GB plan but decide to upgrade to a 2TB plan, how difficult it is? Is it a matter of just changing the plan, or do I need to cancel and start again?

  • Is there something like this for Microsoft 365 Family/OneDrive ?

  • Question for anyone who has this specific scenario:

Say I have my main account under Google one subscription on a monthly basis and I have added my burner account as a family member. If I were to purchase a yearly subscription from this approach, which plan would the main account inherit?

I also have my partner under the family group using the main account.

Are there any suggestions for such scenario?

    • Ok it seems like because the main account is a family manager and has a google one subscription, the burner account is unable to signup for a subscription - it says "Talk to your plan manager" - I may need to cancel my subscription on the main account, this is very complicated and unique situation.

      • I have the same situation but i don't think it is very uncommon. I have a main account which already had Google One. I cancelled the subscription which will expire in a couple of weeks. I then created a burner account with turkey profile and went to re-subscribe. It shows me AUD pricing and does not let me subscribe with the message " Talk to your plan manager" about subscribing.

I think this is how everyone is using it with the burner account so i don't think that part is different. Only thing i can think of is the primary account subscription still exists.

      • You don't necessarily have to cancel the subscription (though you should!), you just have to go to your main account and turn off 'Share Google One with family'. Even with my main account's existing subscription expiring in Feb, turning off sharing allowed me to sign up my secondary account to Google One with no dramas. Then on that account I turned on Sharing to family, and voila, my main account and other family accounts all now have access to the 2TB storage in addition to the old subscription that will disappear in Feb.

        • excellent idea…i followed your steps:

          1) turned off the Share Google One with Family on main account
          2) cancelled my monthly subscription on main account
          3) setup a payment profile with TRK profile and address (there are no other profiles) on burner account
          4) tried to purchase a plan but seeing AU price and when click on Get Started it throws "Something went wrong on our end. Please try again."

Note: I am connected to VPN all the time and my other main account has an AU profile (I hope I don't have to delete my AU profile on main account)

          • @velvetForce: You can just purchase a plan in your burner account first, then delete the turkey payment profile to join your family.

            • @Squirtle: interesting, doesn't deleting the profile delete the subscription too?

              • @velvetForce: Delete payment profile only turn off the auto renew. So the subscription will be good for another year.

  • +1

It works, also if you get AUD after doing that then I might be cause you have an AUD profile setup so just delete that in setting the payments center page.

  • How well does the family sharing work (for this and YouTube premium too)?

If I make a new Google account and add my main Australian Google account to the family group before doing the steps above (and steps in the YouTube post) for family account, my main will be able to access everything + retain Australian Google Play store, etc…?

    • return your OzB badge!

  • keep getting the error message- that family member is from different country when getting other family member or burner account to join. i am thinking it must be related to fact already have my account (family manager) using argentina youtube premium. not sure how to get around it while adding family members. i thin i may have to cancel youtube premium for a few days and do that way.

  • +2

I initially had some errors but managed to get it to work.

I created a new account -> joined as a family member to the main account (make sure to accept the invitation before proceeding) -> created a Turkish payment profile -> Connected to Turkey via VPN (Windscribe) -> sign up for a 2TB annual plan -> share Google One storage sharing.

I could then add another family member (Australian account) to the group without any issues (main account, new account, another family member's account).

If anyone gets an error, try removing the family group and start fresh.

  • Looks promising, my current subscription runs out in May.

What would happen to my survey credits?

    • +1

If your main account with the survey credits makes the family you will be fine.
Follow the method where you add a burner account with Turkey payment method which will be paying for the sub

  • -2

Bit of a pain if you have to go through all this every year? Monthly just rolls on and direct debits

    • Do it once -set and forget

  • Transferred successfully, by following the exact provided steps, and it eventually worked after deleted my existing AU profile

    Thanks OP!

  • OK I wanted to use the same family accounts as I have the Youtube Sub on…. Using one of the sub accounts I changed to Turkey and set up billing. I get the Error message when paying "Your transaction can't be completed. To continue this transaction, secure your account. Learn more about securing accounts"

I tried this: Turn off VPN then try to pay again. If this doesn't work, delete your debit/credit card off the payment profile and redo all the steps again - when you go to pay it will ask you to enter a new card - try and use a different one and it should work.

I tried with VPN off and on, deleted the pau profile a couple of times in cognito mode and not.

removed account from family changed to turkey tried to re-add can't as it was now a different country.. Changed back to Argentine and readded to family. Changed back to Turkey and tried again and no love same issue every time……… Do I just have to setup another Google family? Was trying to avoi

If anyone has trouble with subscribing to this deal, below is steps that I followed and succeeded. No VPN is needed.
    1. Create a burner account.
    2. Go to Payment profile and delete Australian profile if one exists.
    3. Add a payment method with country=Turkey, try different card until 1 got accepted. I got lucky with a NAB VISA card.
    4. Install Google One app on your phone and login using above account.
    5. Buying your desired plan from the app, price should be showed in TRY throughout the process regardless of VPN status.
    6. Delete the Turkish payment profile.
    7. Add an Australian payment profile.
    8. Join your family.
    9. Go to Google One setting and enable Goggle One sharing.
    10. Profit.

    • So what do you plan to do when the sub needs renewing?
