Most people who want a phone with a small screen don't care about the thickness, so they should simply make the phone thicker and put a bigger battery in it. The battery life on my iPhone 12 Mini is awful, even though the battery health is still at 97%, I rarely make it though the day. I have started using my iPod Touch 7th gen again to help take some of the burden off my phone, which really shouldn't be necessary in this day and age.

The battery life is much better on 4G, so it tends to last the day, but I'm still only on around 20-30% at the end of the day and that is with using my iPod Touch whenever WiFi is available. The problem is that at home my 4G reception isn't the best (I'm with Vodafone), but I actually get pretty good 5G reception, so I'm constantly trying to work out whether the better battery life is worth the trade off of having occasional drop-outs.
I'm in a bit of an awkward position though. Battery health shows how old your battery has been. Let’s take my old iPhone XS Max as an example. It is currently on 78% battery health but it still can charge to 100%. It is just that the battery won’t hold its charge as long as it previously when the battery health is at 100%

iphone batteries are generally not great. My $350 Xiaomi far outlasts the iphones the rest of my family own. We were on holiday the other week and they were down to single digits on several occasions while I had over 50% left.
The battery on my Huawei 20 pro is still going strong after close to 3 years
In my experience it seems to have little to do with batteries themselves.
Every Xiaomi that I have owned or used has had super aggressive power management .
Ultimately always the reason I move away from them. It's very annoying trying to set it up so apps don't get sut down in background and notification come through. This is paired with aggressive RAM management which makes switching between apps slow, and often when switching between apps the half filled forms and message replies get cleared because apps get reloaded.

Definitely this. I bought the new SE then this when it came out. Very happy, faster than SE, slightly bigger screen but smaller phone. Just need to get used to face ID, which isn't too much issue now that masks are not required.

It lasts a day for me usually with two SIMs. I tend to treat my phone as a phone though, ie use it for text/call mainly, plus navigation. The battery life is definitely not great compare to say Xiaomi phones.
It is right in the middle between an iPhone SE and a standard iPhone 12 for battery life. Which is what you expect for its size.
You only really get multi day life out of huge phones with space for huge batteries.I get a day comfortably out of my 12 mini, now down to 84% capacity after 27 months of daily use.

I just did it, cause I was already with amaysim it basically just acted like a recharge and happened instantly, however my recharge had already expired

I'd simply chuck the prepaid service out and stick a Telstra SIM into it.Strike that, looks like it only comes with an eSIM so it will activate the service anyway as soon as it connects to a network.
Is that really how it works? I thought eSim just means it gives you a QR code to scan when activating the phone.
Possibly, I've only ever activated an eSIM once before and it was active once the phone connected. I will note that was done through a service provider my company works with so it's possible they did all the fiddly stuff in the background.
I've used eSim quite a lot across various providers and they all involve either being given some kind of QR code or link to scan using the phone camera to then download/activate (hence why you need wifi access to activate), or it's built into an app as a link to a downloadable sim. I suspect in your case someone did the setup process for you.
you can get eSIM for telstra service as well. Both pre paid and post paid

i got 12 mini and like it for what I want. I went from a 8, to 8plus (wife’s old one which had more storage), to 12 mini on a jb outright deal mid last year. I’m not a fan of a big phone having to carry it around in pocket most of the day. The extra screen space and speed big upgrade over the 8. Sure battery will mean plugging in each night but works for me. If you like the 8 size for this deal you can’t go wrong.
I did grab a blue 256 mainly to get off Telstra so I can rejoin again for one of their ~$500-$700 gift card deals as I’m not in contract. May end up keeping the blue though and sell my white.

Six years of updates on a model from 2020 means that it probably won’t be very usable in 2026.
As you can see in the table, buying iPhones from a few years ago is a waste of money.
You kind of have to look at the base hardware and more specifically the RAM. I could imagine this being supported upto 2027 as it essentially has the same RAM level as the 13 (4gb). Apple are pretty good at supporting devices for a long time, and I think the main issue that stops their support is when there isn't enough memory.

How do you cancel the eSim service after 3 months? Am i free to use the phone with a physical SIM later overseas?You can put a physical SIM in anytime as it is an outright unlocked phone. Once it's activated you can just turn off the autorenewal and/or port the number out to a $5 Aldi [ to keep it for a year] or $2 Kogan SIM to let it expire in a month (?).
It's often good to have a spare number floating for the ' New customer' special deals that pop up here from time to time.

(i'm not keen on streaming.) haven't deleted anything off my phone although icloud has taken it upon itself to reduce the quality of pics that are on there even though i apparently have nearly 40gb free still

You can contact apple directly or check the model number, usually iPhones have specific models per country region. Easiest way is to just ask apple support or go into apple store to confirm.
Be mindful these are Grey imports. Someone from chat advised either Japan or international. whatever that means.

Honestly there's no guarantee the iPhone 15 Pro will have USB-C. There were many rumours/"leaks" that iPhone 14 would have it but we all know how that turned out. Look at it this way, you won't have to baby the iPhone 12 mini because it's so cheap and I dare say maybe even use it without a case and actually enjoy the design and feel of it in your hand.

You don't have to activate the sim. It is an e-sim so even if you do activate you can continue using your boost physical sim. It is a dual sim phone. The plan it self activates immediately, so if you use it or not it will end in 90 days.

Well, I’m an existing amaysim customer and my prepaid plan expired a few days ago. I ordered this deal and my 250GB started straight away. It’s gonna be hard for them to cancel this deal for me I guess 🤣
The risk is they refund the phone cost and you're stuck with the $125/90day plan which might be costlier than what you would normal pay

I would like to imagine that attempts to not supply the phone but enforce the three month plan with trickery such as " So you want to cancel (see terms and conditions)" would only be considered by a company that was planning to leave the market anyway…
Terms and conditions clearly state they are bundled (phone and plan) and must be purchased together. They probably made it this way so people can't refund the plan and keep the phone, but this will work as a safeguard to argue that they either supply us with both or none.
Yeah you don't want to deal with 1 ozbargainer who feels they've been ripped off, let alone 10,000.
I feel like this deal is binary, we either all get our mini iPhone then complain about the battery life or we all/most just get refunded the whole amount and we pretend this never happened.
Make sure you dont activate the esim on another phone and start using. Otherwise there is valid argument to refund the phone but not the plan.

So I just checked the website and the green 128 and 256 GB are showing as out of stock. Earlier this arvo at about 2.30 when I ordered mine, they were both in stock.
So the stock they have are definitely being depleted.

A lot of companies like Auspost and StarTrack also use ID LOCK method where they wont deliver without recording your ID no. If you don't have an ID on you at the time of delivery, they take it to the local post office where you will show ID.
Hopefully it just means “we cannot leave this at your door”

Todays the day. We’re either getting shipping notifications or cancellation emails. Either way, they’re going to be busy at Amaysim this morning lol.
Well, I spoke to chat yesterday and they were as ambiguous as it could be. Effectively they said they would come to an agreement with the customer if they could not deliver. Did not answer whether there will be a full refund or not.
On the other hand to safeguard myself, I went to the account and remove the card info and changed to Bpay. Not that it matters for the original order but no faith in any optus affiliates which stored card info.
It says in the terms that the bundle is together phone and sim. If refunded it must be refunded together.

Did a search on various websites and iphone 12 stock is very limited.
They may have bought the stock from another telco overseas but not enough australian stock to fulfill all the orders.
Nevertheless, battery life is a concern. Used to have one for work and battery needed charging twice a day so YMMV. I generally disliked the phone but thats my personal experience.
You can’t really complain battery life on an iPhone that was $275 in itself. Just get a massive power bank from the money you saved not buying this thing at MSRP.
I personally use the Apple MagSafe Battery Pack which I picked up for dirt cheap used, use it as a battery extender/ not like your typical power bank - charge from 0-100. Also not worth at full MSRP but at a discount or if bought used is a viable option.

Can attest the battery life is garbage lite. Because the size is perfect for me and that means tiny battery. Without a charge during the day this phone is not going to work for anyone. Unless you use it now and then.

Just spoke to Amaysim on the phone and they said there was 50% off the iPhone 12 mini yesterday and there is no longer any stock. For Metro an estimated 1-5 Business days to receive the device and 3-5 for more rural locations. (I asked if there was a price error and they said no). Not sure if this is conclusive but its definitely more promising.

It’s pretty easy for them to set a stock limit in most e-commerce platforms now. It’s not possible to go over the limit even during flash sales usually as the checkout payment will always check the stock limit before final processing. At least shopify, magneto, salesforce which it would be one of these major platforms etc

Just got off support chat with Amaysim.
I brodened a couple of these so wanted to delay the activation of the plan. As previously mentioned in this thread, they confirmed that the plan gets activated between 2-10 business days from when the phone/plan was ordered.
However, the support agent did mention that the plan can be restarted in the future provided that there is no usage on the SIM/eSIM. You just have to contact them once you finally activate the SIM and they'll do this for you.
And they did also mention the obvious point (that I'm sure some people will forget) that you should deactivate the auto-renewal.
Could the credit be added to an existing plan or transfer the data bank? I honestly have no use for a new number.
If they're anything like Boost then I would think so but I didn't ask that specifically so can't answer that.
Yes, just sign in to amaysim account and when buying you click on I want to buy this device and to change my current service. It will replace your current plan with this one and add on the data bank.
But I’m on the $9 for 55gb plan/month with amaysim. They can take that out of my cold dead hands. Next month at least when it ends.

no, you can just turn off auto renew.

Gotta love the reality where AAAC is lenient about (or straight allows for) overselling, "pricing errors" etc. Everybody is on their toes whether this phone got oversold or not, only because it's possible to happen, without real consequences to the seller. Despite they most probably have taken your money already.
You know what else is possible and probably common elsewhere in the world? That sellers, by law, offer only items that they've ensured they have handy, and that they're diligent in their offerings, incl. stocktaking, maintaining it in the IT systems etc. It's not a rocket surgery to implement, it's just something natural for decent business owners.
I'm not saying you're waiting in vain here. I'm saying you should be comfortable and able to be concerned merely about how quick they're going to ship, not if they ship.

No, if it gets refunded, it will get refunded as a bundle. Won’t be just the phone. It’s in the t&c
Provided you don’t activate it, you may have a case. Naturally you’ll have to go through the usual customer service channels to request the refund
Activated or not, it's a bundle, as specified in the terms and conditions.
If the mobile number is activated and Amaysim can't deliver the other part of the bundle (the phone), given that the order was accepted, I would be seeking compensation for the phone part.
The compensation I would be seeking would be equal to the cost of buying the same phone from another supplier.
If the customer wanted to keep the phone number, whether a newly allocated number or ported over, this would further complicate things for Amaysim.

The Eligible Plan and Apple device are sold as a bundle, if any return is required under the manufacturer’s warranty, our policies, or the Consumer Guarantees, the bundle must be returned as a whole.

I just spoke to chat for real this time. And I have my order number. It’s shipping from Horsely park nsw which is the same distribution point for Apple, and is a major fulfilment centre. I’m in QLD. There could be others from Melbourne but I will assume most if not all will ship from Horsely park as it’s about the biggest fullfillment centre with Amazon, DHL and more.

I just got a new mac from Apple and it sent from Erskine park which is practically the same industrial shipping area, fulfilled by TNT as is normal with Apple. It is Sydney’s mega fulfilment centre. Since Optus purchased it they’ve been slowly raising prices and trying to pivot it away from “shitty mvno”.
Plus it’s not a new phone. Maybe they got a deal as a tier one carrier to bugger off heaps of them. Optus can also get overseas models imported via Singtel.
There was too much to have done in terms of the marketing, legal and copy to be a price error. The only thing might be the stock amounts. But stock amounts of 5000 iPhones isn’t even that many. Even 10,000 isn’t many. That’s only 3 million dollars at that sale rate. Rounding error for Apple. I’d say it wasn’t that many units though.
I could be completely wrong. If I am I’ll get an iPhone 13 mini anyway. I’ve liked the idea of dual e sim for a bit and a slighter bigger battery in a small form factor. And if I get screwed by amaysim. It will be a sign of the gods.

It’s brand new. Where do you get the idea it’s refurbished? It would be illegal for them to sell a refurbished phone as “brand new” as stated all through their copy. Why would they take the reputational damage?

True story: I dropped my old phone from 10m onto concrete with a cover similar to above and it survived! Bit of a crack in screen protector but phone was fine. I reckon I was very lucky with the way it landed, but now happy to stick with these same cases again. YMMV

Well bugger me. The australia post app if connected to the same email used for your order will show up. I now see my tracking number.
But there’s no weights or location. It’s likely an automated labelling output and not actual fulfilment. I’d be shocked if it’s actually fulfilled yet.
I believe it goes by your address as my AP email and amaysim email are different.
It must have gone by name, doesn’t seem like other deliveries. Anyway. Stoked!

There’s actually nothing wrong with this. It’s nice to have both ecosystems instead of limiting yourself to 1. When you got bored of one, put your sim in the other, that’s what I do.
I like having both and I definitely think it was a great opportunity to try Apple if you already had a Samsung phone
