    1000/50 $109.90/M for First 6 Months

    That's tempting

    • According to this only plan for 8K video streaming

      • +4

Are there any website that stream 8k?

      • +1

Really good for downloading games quickly too, or movies / tv

      • But 8K is just the pixel resolution.

        Bitrate = bandwidth… that's the key.

    • +4

If you sign up to iiNet for 6 months, then threaten to leave they'll offer you this price in perpetuity as a retention offer. Source: me and my friend both did it

      • +3

What's the speed like with iiNET? One thing keeping me with AussieBroadband is that we actually get the speeds offered - even during peak hours - rather than experiencing significant issues after school and on weekends.

        • +2

And aussie employs people in aus. Not some strange person in south Africa that yells at you for waiting 5 seconds, not 7, before turning it on again.

          • -4

@incipient: They employed an Indian born guy with a terrible accent to man their phones, then got mad when people complained about it.

Why people want local support is so they can understand the person they're talking to, not because of their physical location.

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: Personally I prefer to support local because we import enough stuff, and we simply don't need to add IT support to our trade deficit too.

            • @[Deactivated]: Local support means local jobs. I highly encourage people to support this where they can. If it can be done here, it should be done here. Strengthen our economy, don't outsource it

              Edit:
To add to this, I have just called up tangerine help desk for existing customers. They are based in the Philippines, so I personally wont be supporting this company.

              • @Justaddgrum: Leaptel is great and get through to a local support person very quickly.

                • @G-rig: Awesome, thanks. I'll check them out.

                  • @Justaddgrum: Yeah can't complain and the into offers are 12 months not 6, so you don't need to reassess for a while.
I'm still getting a ping of 8-13ms and speeds of 105-107Mbps over wifi so all good (HFC 100/20 plan).

      • +1

Every time I try to get iiNet to price match they refuse and simply offer 1 or 2 months free.

        • +1

That's heaps better. Grab it, and leave.
          Rinse, repeat.

      • Sign up to what?

      • Whats iiNet like compared with the sister company internode?

        • When iiNet was iiNet it was great for ADSL. Then TPG bought them. Not sure now.
I left for a good NBN price elsewhere.

  • +2

can you set a start date?

    • +1

      keen to know this too

      • just had a chat with the chat and the advise was (after checking my address) "as per checking its a quick activation process meaning we will just activate the service remotely and you can choose your preferred connection date"

    • +2

Yep. Personally requested an activation for 2 and a half weeks after order date, and was activated by the morning of that day

      • how did you request it? call up?

        • +1

you can put a later activation date

  • +8

I had to switch away from this service after under 2 weeks. Was awful.

    • +2

      In what way?

      • +11

        Intermittent connection issues.
        Sometimes slow connections.
Sometimes can’t open Google (yes, only Google).
        Sometimes network dropout.

I WFH and the amount of disruptions are unreal.

But my wallet is talking so 4 months to go before jumping ship. You get assigned a static ip though.

Been with them many times with FTTP, FTTN, and HFC, it’s all the same.

Used to it now, part of the discount rotation, can’t avoid xD
        ABB -> Superloop -> SpinTel > Exetel -> Tangerine -> Repeat

        • +1

you know you can call ABB/SL to keep the discounts if you stay long enough with them

          • +11

@FeZZa21: That’s what people keep saying. I’ve never once succeeded in getting the discount from whatever retention team. They just told me, okay, we’ll cancel your service, discount is only for new customer. My rotten luck…

            • +2

@brokenglish: My experience the same. Always ask if discount can continue or can be changed to updated plan but advised no every time. Keep rotating every 6 months their loss.

          • @FeZZa21: Someone said also Exetel. Currently on Exetel 62.90 for 6 months 100/20. I’ll ask for a discount as it’s a bit annoying moving

            • @fozzie: I dont think they give it out straight after a 6 month discount, might have to wait 1-1.5 years after. wont hurt to try

            • +2

@fozzie: I am with Extel. Basically told them if they offer the same deal i will stay. Been with them for more 2 years. They said no. So i cancelled

          • @FeZZa21: ABB offered for me to reduce my plan from 100/40 at the time to 100/20 (based on my apparent usage patterns) to save $10 a month for 6 months which I accepted begrudgingly but went to Tangerine a few months ago for the 500/50 @ $99.90 which just got upgraded to 1000/50 for nothing extra. Plan returns to $129.90 after a few more months. Happy with Tangerine so far, but haven't needed support yet, and I'm sure they'll be lacklustre.

        • +1

you could just rotate between exetel and superloop you know? 6 months and you're a new customer again.

          • @follow: With my rotten luck, the discounts are not always there at my preferred ISP when it’s time to churn.

          • +1

@follow: Just don't forget they both have 30 days cancellation notice.

        • +1

My experience (on the 250/25 plan) has been the opposite. Very stable connection (FTTP). Every time I do a speed test, I am getting at or slightly above the quotes plan speed.

Are you sure your issues are Tangerine related, and not, for example, DNS issues?

(I use Cloudflare DNS to avoid using ISP specific DNS)

          • +1

            @atwilliams: Seconded.

Im only on their 50/20 plan, but I constantly see 54/21 which doesnt change at peak times.

Also, their service when handing faults was flawless.

          • @atwilliams: I use Google’s 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
Yeah, definitely Tangerine/Vocus-related. Problems will disappear when I churn to ABB or SL.

          • @atwilliams: How to check and change this?

            • @ajbee: log in to your router’s admin account. Most routers have a setting to either “acquire DNS from ISP”, or to manually set them. If you are going to change this setting, make sure you take a copy of your router settings before doing so and double-check the IP addresses of the DNS you enter.

              • @atwilliams: I went how to validate that its a dns issue

        • -1

          ABB is where it's at!

          • +4

@damow15: Nope. Zero customer service. Held my voip number ransom, and had the CEO challenge me to "come here and make me" keep his word; then his secretary refused me entry when I did.

Also sent me someone elses account details and didnt alert the people they'd leaked their account (I called them though; lucky im not an identity thief).

            Never again.

            • @MasterScythe: My theory is when companies released they could get away with the reduced numbers of support staff during Covid by putting a message up front apologizing for extended delays that just became the new baseline.

My sample size is small so I could just be unlucky but given the model that focuses on replacing customers rather than retention or any loyalty perks I think the tin foil hat im wearing fits ok ;).

Cheers for the info on ABB @MasterScythe. my fttn line became eligible for the upgrade yesterday so I need to figure out where the price performance sweet spot is.

        • you can't churn back to tangerine for the discount right? says so in T&Cs, only for new customers, one per customer per household?

          • @mrvaluepack: Are you still a new customer after a year with someone else? Usually include them with my churn rotation but to be honest still Happy with Leaptel and their 12 month promo. Will consider a move when that's up .

            • @G-rig: No idea. Give it a try and let me know. I was content with their service.

              • @mrvaluepack: Yeah my promo rate finishes end of this month. $75/m for 100/20 is worthwhile and get speeds of 105-107etc, but prob not worth spending that amount on a 50 plan.

        • I don't recall that experience with them they've been ok for me and that was on FTTP

        • I doubt it's a Tangerine thing. I switched from Optus and have noticed zero difference in NBN performance. "Can't open Google"? Do you mean the Chrome browser or the google.com website? Either way, if you can't do either of those things you have much bigger problems than your NBN retailer.

        • OMG THAT WAS ME TOOO. Speeds werent even REMOTELY close to the 100/50 I had. was more like 49/5

    • What type of NBN do you have ?

Are you on FTTN by any chance?

      • Mines been fine with fttc 🤔

    • I've used tangerine and it was fine, dependable where you live. The referral program was handy, quite a few 15$ discounts.

Are you considered a new customer if you haven't been with them over 6/12 months, or use a new email address?

Leaptel has been fantastic, paying a bit more for 100/20 but will shop around when the 12m promo is over (get referrals too of $50 each but publishing it on the system here has ruined that for me). Recommended though.

  • +3

I just signed up with them last week. The customer service was fantastic and the speeds are consistent (100/20 plan). Would recommend.

  • I'm still paying $89 for 1000/50 with what used to be MyRepublic and was transfered to SuperLoop.
Superloop is shit compared to MyRepublic so I'm looking to switch but there is nowhere as close as to what I'm paying currently :(

    • +1

Superloop is shit compared to MyRepublic

      In what way?

      • Their max tier speed is 500Mbps.
However since they brough customers from MyRepublic, they have to provide gigabit internet for customers that were on the gigabit plan.

Since the switch my speed has dropped from 900-1000Mbps to 300-400mbps at max!

I suspect that is just a CVC cost issue :/

    • $89 is a great price for the speed!

      • I know right - I just contacted them after the 6 months promotion expired saying I was going to switch unless they offered me a discount and they did :)
So I would have paid this price for a year for a gigabit connection.

Been with them in the past and currently with them right now on the 100/20 with no issues at all. Speeds have been perfect even while on a VPN. Definitely no complaints.

  • Do they use PPPoE?

    • +1

      Yes.

Most routers will provide a Quick Start Guide or
Setup Wizard – please try and follow these steps.
Ensure that your router is configured in WAN mode
and encapsulation is set to PPPoE. On most devices
you should leave all other settings as default. Then
configure your BYO router using the ISP username
and password that we will have emailed and SMS’d
      to you.

No vlan tagging appears to be required though, silver linings.

  • +1

Any deals for existing customers ? Happy with the service , not with the price for fttn.

  • do they have an expiry date?

    • +1

On the day they go out of business they will expire

  • Do they have a lock in period for free FTTP upgrades?

    • That's a charge that is dictated by nbnco if you downgrade within the 1st year

      • Apparently it’s only if you drop below a 100/20 plan, and it’s at NBN’s discretion

      • Some ISP's allow you to downgrade after 1 month with no penalty (e.g. Aussie BB, More Internet)

  • Tried Tangerine the past promo they had. The connection didn't work for the first 24 hours and i just could not get in contact to their customer service through any means. Finally on the second day, I spoke to someone after being on hold for over an hour and they couldn't solve the problem. Ported out to Superloop and worked instantly.

Sure there might have been some technical coincidence but their customer service is shocking. They do have a 2 week trial period though which is good.

  • Nice price on the 100/20, about the same as Australia Post deal I got onto in January. Would love to switch to this in 3 more months once that 6 months honeymoon rate is over, but no expiry and end whenever Tangerine says is a tough one

  • Would this be similar speed wise to the 1000/50 plan I'm currently on with Aussie.

I don't know how these things work with fttp

    • Depends if this mob buy enough capacity like ABB

      • I pay ABB $149 a month but their speeds are so solid

        • How much are you getting via cable and via wifi (what router do you own?) ?

          • +3

@Torch: I pay $104pm with More Internet (30% off with CBA Mastercard). I get 930/45 on PC wired cable and 950/45 on wifi throughout my house (not sure why wifi is higher!). My wifi is 2 Xiaomi AX6000 mesh with ethernet backhaul, with routing via an old gigabit Asus router.

            • @mandelbrot: @mandelbrot same plan. But using my old telstra smart modem gen 2. Get solid speeds close to full via ethernet. And one wifi device. However my tablet caps about 400 and phone around 5-600 down. Upload is between 45 to 48 consistently on all devices

              • @Jake17: I believe Telstra SM gen 2 is wifi 5. To maximise wifi speed, you need wifi 6 with 160MHz, plus the end devices that support it.

          • @Torch: My wifi setup is pretty old and I use ethernet for anything that matters.

Regularly get speeds of 105-110MBps from reliable servers (steam etc.)

            • @creesy: Are you on the 1000 Mbps plan and get 105-110 Mbps?

              • @Torch: Yeh with Aussie. Peak times it might drop to 90ish.

That's using a pretty old Netgear r7000 running tomato

              • @Torch: MBps != Mbps

  • +3

I am an existing customer and got an auto upgrade from 500/50Mbps to 1000/50 this week @$99.90 PM

  • $99 Cashback with shopback

    • +2

It goes through econnex which is rather bad based on the comments from other threads though. mine, from earlier this year was not tracked either eventhough I did click carefully and they declined the follow up as well. I'd rather use referral or CR in the future (for other NBN), rather than going through Shopback + econnex combo

  • +1

Do they have CGNAT and if yes then can it be disabled free of cost?
