Welcome to the ultimate guide of Apple iCloud subscriptions

IMPORTANT

OlduBil: "Transfers from foreign bank accounts to our bank accounts in Turkey are not possible".

  • OlduBil is no longer accepting deposits/transfers from foreign bank accounts. Please DO NOT make any transfers into OlduBil (i.e. your Türkiye Mastercard) until further notice!

  • If you already have the funds in OlduBil from a previous transfer, you are free to use it for anything. For those wanting to top up your Türkiye Mastercard, please DO NOT initiate any transfers into OlduBil from Wise or Revolut until I have a new update

Every transfer done is at your own risk and the instructions in this deal may be outdated and may not work for you.

As per literally every guide I've completed, I've spent a chunk of money out of generosity to test the current validity of the following method as well as annotating screenshots throughout the sign-up process (see screenshots in the instructions section). Given the invention of the Virtual Turkish Mastercard via OlduBil, we now have a new set of instructions for those who wish to sign up that way, in addition to the regular Turkey Apple Gift Card method.

Please show some love and any comments, concerns, suggestions or feedback are welcome :)

Note: No VPN needed for this deal. Requires Appe Türkiye ID!

Modern problems require modern solutions. Like Spotify, Xbox Game Passes, Youtube, Netflix, Discord, Google One, Microsoft 365, relocating (virtually of course) to Turkey is usually the best option, with some methods saving hundreds or thousands of dollars each year added up.

As always, credits to Pricebeat for all the Apple ID related knowledge I've gained from their past posts. See any problems and fixes in the previous thread if you need to.

Enjoy :)

Instructions

This guide looks extensive (because I try my best to explain it simply for beginners) however if you've done this before and already have a Turkey Apple ID then it shouldn't take you more than a few mins as you can skip most of these instructions.

Part 1 – Türkiye Apple ID

If you already have a Türkiye Apple ID, decide whether you want to pay with Apple Gift Cards or your Virtual Turkish Mastercard via OlduBil. If paying using Gift Cards, proceed to Part 2. If paying with your Virtual Turkish Mastercard, complete Part 1 Step 2 below, then proceed to Part 3.

If you DO NOT have a Türkiye Apple ID, follow these steps below:

  1. Create a Türkiye Apple ID by going to: https://appleid.apple.com/account. Follow the on-screen steps (help point: see this screenshot). In the mobile number section, use your Australian mobile number (very important to use a valid mobile number or you risk losing your Türkiye Apple ID). Choose the country as "Türkiye". Then follow through the rest of the prompts to create your Türkiye Apple ID.

  2. While still logged in to your new Türkiye Apple ID, go to the Apple Payment Method link and add a Türkiye address (you can get a random Türkiye address here) to your Türkiye Apple ID. For the phone number, enter 61 (area code) and your Australian mobile number. For the payment method, select "none" if you want to top up your Apple ID with Apple Gift Cards, OR select "Credit or Debit Card" if you would like to use your Virtual Turkish Mastercard via OlduBil and enter the details in. Click "Save" to save your payment method.

If you selected "none" as your payment method, then you'll be paying with Apple Gift Cards. Proceed to Part 2

If you selected "Credit or Debit Card" as your payment method, then you'll be paying with your Virtual Turkish Mastercard via OlduBil. Proceed to Part 3.

Part 2 – Loading your Türkiye Apple ID with Türkiye Apple Gift Cards (if you need to)

  1. Buy Turkish Lira (₺) iTunes gift cards from TurGame (comes with denominations from ₺25 TL up to ₺1000 TL). Choose the currency as TL/TRY See how and pay with a debit/credit card (use a card that has no international transaction fees to avoid any extra costs). All transaction processors will have a small "Payment Partner Fee" attached - at checkout, choose the one that gives you the smallest fee.

How long will my gift card take to arrive? Turgame processes gift cards in their local timezone. If you're purchasing in the daytime, expect a long wait. If you're purchasing at 6pm onwards, expect a fast delivery

  2. Open the "Settings" app on your Apple device. At the top, click on [Your Name], then "Media and Purchases", then "Sign Out". Login with your Türkiye Apple ID.

  3. Redeem your Türkiye Apple gift cards by opening the "App Store" app, then click your account initials (located at right top corner). Click "Redeem Gift Card or Code" and redeem all your gift cards.

Part 3 – Subscribing to iCloud+ (use either Windows / iPhone or iPad / Mac)

  • If you already have an existing Türkiye Apple ID and would like to pay using your Virtual Turkish Mastercard via OlduBil, please complete Part 1, Step 2 before commencing Part 3 below (if you haven't done so already).

via PC/Windows (estimated <5 mins)

  1. Open the iCloud application. If you don't have it, download it here: https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT204283

  2. Log in with your Türkiye Apple ID.

  3. Press "Storage", then "Add Storage".

  4. Select the plan you want, then press "Next".

  5. Enter your Türkiye Apple ID password to confirm, then press "Buy".

If your Türkiye Apple ID is topped up with an Apple ID Balance, then this screen will show and your purchase is complete! Enjoy!

For those who would like to use your Virtual Turkish Mastercard via OlduBil, the payment screen will redirect you to Step 6 below.

  6. Press "Payment Info". Everything will be prefilled, except your OlduBil Mastercard CVV. Enter that in and press "done". Your purchase is complete! Enjoy!

via iPhone or iPad (estimated <5 mins)

  1. Open the "Settings" app and then tap [your name]. Scroll down and sign out of both iCloud and Media and Purchases and sign in with your Türkiye Apple ID.

  2. Tap "iCloud", scroll down and tap "Upgrade to iCloud+". If this doesn't show, tap "Manage Account Storage" or "Manage Storage".

  3. Choose a plan and tap "Upgrade to iCloud+". Follow the onscreen instructions.

If your Türkiye Apple ID is topped up with an Apple ID Balance, then your purchase is complete! Enjoy!

For those who would like to use your Virtual Turkish Mastercard via OlduBil, the payment screen will show and just proceed with the prompts (if not, then your purchase is complete! Enjoy!)

  4. Open the "Settings" app and then tap [your name]. Scroll down and sign out of both iCloud and Media and Purchases and sign in with your Australian Apple ID. Everything will be normal again.

via Mac (estimated <5 mins)

  1. See here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201318 (sorry I don't have a Mac to test this but I'd assume it'd be very similar to above).

Part 4 – Family Sharing (optional)

  1. Open the "Settings" app and then tap [your name].

  2. Tap "iCloud".

  3. Scroll down and tap "Share with Family".

  4. Tap "Invite Family Members" and follow the prompts. Invite your Australian Apple accounts and accept it on their end.

  • I just signed up a few days ago on the old post

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14001814/redir

  • not sure why, but my purchase of giftcard on turgames got cancelled

    • mine didn't work first time, I used revoult temp card. but I think it didn't have funds.
so used the normal card and it took a few days to go thought as I did it friday, and came in following week

  • Thank you OP for the super clear instructions.

Quick question: so I added my original Apple ID to my new Turkish ID to share the family storage. It looks like it replaced my previous iCloud+ subscription automatically without me having to “downgrade”. Is this your understanding? I guess I’ll find out at my next usual billing date on the original ID (as I used Turkish gift cards for the Turkish ID).

    • So iCloud refunded my personal payment a few days after I joined the Turkish id (as my AU id was charged same day I joined Turkish id). It was an automatic process that recognised the AU id "downgrade" which was nice.

  • Just wondering is there a way to get Apple One through Turkey credit and ID?

    edit:
Find the answer, have to go through India with this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/750496?page=1#comment

I assume its the same sharing procedure? ie create stand alone India ID and then invite your Australia account to the join the family plan under the India ID?

    • Yeh but it only shares iCloud storage

      • Decided to give it a pass….

Apple Arcade I hardly use when I had it for free.
Apple TV….nah didn't even use 10% of my already have streaming
and the nah just keep coming and finally find out no Apple News on India account. The 1 thing that I really want.

May look at Turkey iCloud+ when my space requirement goes up, currently only using 10GB so can't be border.

  • Thank you so much!
I managed to follow your instructions and added au account as a family.
Just have a quick question tho. I used the giftcard but when I buy the i cloud subscription it asked me to put debit/ credit card details so I put Oldubil virtual card info. (No deposit tho)
I tried to put some deposit into the Oldubil card for future payment but it’s doesn’t take any of my ing or 28 degrees card. How do I continue pay the amount? Do I need to keep buying the gift card and top the balance up?

    • Having the same problem, can't get any of my cards to deposit into the account.

    • +1

Have you tried turning on the "travelling overseas" setting in your ING card (not sure if Latitude has this), as sometimes banks block transactions overseas if you have other transactions happening locally.

      • Thanks for your reply! I’ve tried that from ing but still no luck! I guess I will have to buy another gift card…

  • Can anyone answer this question? I am using the Turkish method per this post and invited my AU id. All good. But obviously lost access to other features like Custom Domains.

With my AU id, there's no way to just subscribe to lowest icloud+ plan right? When I try, it just shows the most expensive version, as I think it sees how much data I have (more than 200GB) and shows the relevant level. Of course I'm using the Turkish id for its storage.

    • I've added custom domains on my AU account

      • How? Turkish id only shares storage not the other iCloud+ features incl custom domains, unless you have residual from your last plan, which will expire anyway at the next renewal date as your Turkish id fully takes over.

        • I dunno mate, it just works(TM) for me
I've even purchased additional domains under my AU account and linked it up.

  • Is anyone having luck purchasing gift cards from Turgame? I've tried 4 times now, but every time the payment fails. You can't use VPN to change IP address, because the site detects it. I've tried the following payment methods: IYZI, PARA & GPAY.
    Anyone know a work around?

    • I had no issues. I used my australian bank card and didn't have vpn. Sorry can't help more.

    • +1

      I had that problem too.
I ended up going to my macquarie bank app and setting that i was travelling in turkey and that worked for me.

  • It seems to me that it’s cheaper to use the gift cards Turgame mind as you only pay the card processing fee. But this way you pay the Revolut fee and the olubill fee.

Saying that I do use the oldubill approach for Spotify

  • Start with step 4 as a requirement, after reading the whole guide i cant do this as family sharing is full. (of real people) cries

  • +1

What's the impact, or is it even possible.. to move the AU account to Turkey, being you could change the credit card to Olubill ?

Rather then setup new TRY account that just manages the iCloud sub (+ any other TRY subs)

    • apart from AU apps not showing?
  • +1

switched to oldubill for billing, glad i no longer have to buy vouchers every 3 weeks or so

  • What's OzB consensus view on the most sustainable/value method of payment between gift cards and virtual credit card?

I'm looking for a set-and-forget approach, and don't mind paying marginally more fees if it means I don't have to tend to the account every few months or so. But also want to be mindful of which approach is likely more sustainable in the long run (for example, don't want Apple to block a certain method of payment and have everything stuff up).

    Thanks friends.

    • You could set up a regular transfer from your au bank to the virtual card?

  • From what I gather for payment options, paying with turgames gift cards will always be the cheapest method (provided you purchase from a debit card with market exchange rates like ING):

Turgames partner fees: ~0.00144% to 0.0498%
    OlduBil deposit fee: 0.14%
    Wise conversion fee: 0.98%

  • @I Smell Pennies You should probably add the same warning about our good mate OlduBil for this thread as well.
    Çok yaşa, OlduBil.

  • I have got the email from Apple saying increase the subscription price now.

iCloud+ with 200 GB of storage
    1 month
    New ₺39,99 — Old ₺19,99

    • New ₺39,99 — Old ₺19,99

OP's table in the description lists the latest prices.

  • Thanks soo much OP. This has saved heaps for us and the extended family.

PS: Used the steps from your Microsoft Xbox post to transfer money to the virtual Card.

  • It all worked fine to begin with, managed to set up a Turkish Apple ID and bring in my Australian Apple ID as a family member and was successfully able to start backing up to iCloud. Except now I can't log in to my Turkish Apple ID, it says "This Apple ID is not active". I initially saw this on a separate Apple device (an old laptop) that I did not use to set up the account.

So when I went log in to the Turkish Apple ID on the device I used to set it up, through system preferences, I got the same "This Apple ID is not active", followed by a message saying something like "you need to reset your password for account security reasons"…

Could this be Apple seeing this activity as suspicious and disabling the Turkish ID? I can't even recover a password now because the Apple ID is not active. I didn't get any email notification regarding disabling account or anything…

    Anyone else experiencing this?

  • Followed the instructions and now have the error:
    "country/region does not much"
To share with your family, you must use itunes in the same country/region as your family organiser"

    Did i miss something?

    • +1

try imessaging the family invite instead

      • Will give it ago, my ipad imessages just failing.. Not an apple person argh

  • Turgame requiring OTP to login when putting through an order, how to get around that?

  • I have an existing Family setup via my AU account. Do I need to stop the current family before setting this up?

  • When purchasing the gift card, Turgame without any notice charged my card in AUD using DCC with their bank's crappy exchange rate. I was using the second payment method from memory.

  • Got the plan loaded up on my Turkish iCloud account. So I log back into my normal one and back to regular iCloud data. I am not sure what I was expecting there. I feel like I missed a step. If we already had an iCloud account, do we just family share to our old iCloud account? Sorry if this is covered elsewhere - if you can just copy/paste.

    • Yes, from your turkish id, go to Family Share and share its iCloud+ to your original id. You original iCloud will get iCloud+ instantly.

  • Question, what happens if I skip a month putting funds via gift card to my Türkiye Apple ID, and only recharge every couple of months? Is it as simple as not able to upload until recharged or anything else we should be aware of?

    • +1

You don’t need to do it monthly. You can top up as much or as little at anytime. iCloud will deduct from your account monthly and if there’s no funds there, I’ll just lose the benefits at the end of that billing cycle until you top up again. You could put $1M in there and not top up for the rest of your life.

      • Do you know how long the photos/videos stay in cloud if subscription is unpaid? Looking to recharge Tr50 every couple of months to pay for 200gb, but not keen to reupload 150gigs every time.

        • Not sure best google it

  • Can some please confirm the family share up to 5 people does NOT include the Turkish account. So it would be a total of 6 (1 + 5 others) rather than 5 (1 + 4 others)

  • I currently pay for the 2tb storage. Do i need to cancel that first before creating it on my turkish Id and sharing it with my family?

  • The issue I find with this, is then when I try and download an app its not available because I'm in the turkey store, so I have to sign out back in with AU account and then sign out and back in with turkey account. Anyone get around this issue?

    • -1

It's not an issue, just how App Store works. Use another device (or login to a different user if u r using a Mac) to manage redeeming gift card & subscription OR sign in and out in app store each time you want to redeem a card.

  • +1

    DO NOT USE TURGAME!!!
I placed an order of ~130 try on iTunes gift card, after charging money from my bank account, they were asking for my hand-written note, a photo of my payment card and my ID for authentication. Then I wrote an email to their team asking for a refund, they said the money would be returned within 1-10 days. It's been 7 days but I still can't see my money back… will wait to see if they keep the promise.
So I tried oyunfor instead, good price with less fee charged compared to Turgame, and I got the redeem code immediately after money paid! In the case of turgame I have to wait about 1 hour. Although I know there is a chance that it would also go wrong in the future.

    • I am glad I came across your comment.
I was just about to purchase a bigger amount of iTunes GCs from TURGAME this time.

Are there any other reputable Turkish sites for iTunes GCs other than OYUNFOR, in case it also goes down the same path as TURGAME?

    • RE: Turgame security flag/ID

See my comment here and what I provided them.

You're meant to blur out mostly everything except for your name. Look at my screenshot in the link above and do the same.

      • I know. But I'm not using my real name on this website, and I'm using Revolut disposal card so I can only get an digital statement of this payment (I know I'm taking a risk of doing this, but the proper way to handle fraud like situation is simply returning money to the payment card. But so far they are not likely to do this, and they are disregarding my email(ticket) now. Furthermore, they use 3-D Secure on all purchases, it's much stronger and safe than a name on card in terms of preventing fraud. It makes no sense asking for further personal information.)

        • I am also using Revolut disposable. Revolut support is absolutely horrible when it comes to chargeback.
          I will try G2A next.

    • -1

Best to use “Wise” for any currency other than AUD. Much cheaper conversion rates and you won’t have any issues

  • @I Smell Pennies Would you still recommend TURGAME for buying iTunes GCs? Just asking as there are reports of being challenged for an OTP as well as being asked to provide government issued ID.

    • RE: Turgame security flag/ID

See my comment here and what I provided them.

You're meant to blur out mostly everything except for your name. Look at my screenshot in the link above and do the same.

To answer your question, yes I still recommend buying from Turgame as personally my experience has been great.

  • Hey OP, is there another payment method for the iTunes GCs? I tried Turgames, and it just kept going back to the 'continue to checkout' page, but each attempt was listed as 'Pending Payment' in order history.

    Luckily Turgames cancelled those orders.

    • +2

Not sure @HoneyB you can probably try G2A but I get all my Turkey gift cards for Apple and Netflix via Turgame

      • +1

Thank you, G2A worked well, cheers! :)

        • which seller do you guys use on G2A? Potionkeys legit?

  • +3

WARNING USE OF TURGAME FOR GC.

This could be just my luck or bank but I bought my Apple GC via turgame website not too much dramas got the GC redeemed and all.

Today I got a SMS from Citibank alerting me of a fraudulent activity of $99 from Apple to confirm with Y or N. I checked my Citibank and saw approx 6 other transactions from Apple amounting about $7.99 each.
Note, this started happening 2 days after using turgame to buy Turkish GC.

Just thought I’d let you guys know. Maybe like others, best use a virtual disposable card etc.

    Happy bargaining

    • Best to use “Wise” for any currency other than AUD. Much cheaper conversion rates and you won’t have any issues

  • @I Smell Pennies: for iCloud backup does it mean you need to have your Turkish AppleID signed in each night for automatic backup?

    • +1

No. Sign with with your main id to iCloud, and sign in with your turkish id under Media and Purchases.

This means your iCloud backup will be as normal, not via turkish id.

      • Thanks mate

  • Can anyone confirm if family sharing from your Turkish account gives you other iCloud+ benefits such as HomeKit Secure Video (HKSV)?

  • +1

Just wonder if anyone bas the same problem, I bought the tuekey gift card and redeemed ito my appleid, but when I tried to upgrade the icloud. i wad asked to provide billing info which is supposed to be a Turkey credit card, I tried my card herebut didnt work. How can I skip this step? Thanks.

    • Damn! Happening to me also… Maybe this has been fixed now. Loaded the Apple ID with 1000try…

      • @Lwt

Fixed! Although my gift card was redeemed the first time. It actually didn’t. I noticed this by checking my balance in the App Store (click your name) balance was 0.00. So I redeemed again. This time it worked and I could continue without the update payment popup.

    • This is happening to me as well. Tried to purchase a paid app, and same verification popped up.
I only redeemed 50 TLR for testing, not sure if it's because of the low balance

  • 899 for 6TB! lol. Created 2 seperate for me and the wife.

  • Which account needs to be organiser Australian or new 🇹🇷 one with iCloud plus .? I am having difficulty my au account can’t access iCloud share which is my main organiser id I send invites to new 🇹🇷 one.!

  • I followed the quite amazing guide and setup a new Turkish Apple ID, added GC and purchased 200 GB iCloud subscription. Finally, I setup Family account and invited my Australian Apple ID to share the storage.

My Australian Apple ID was already subscribing to 50 GB iCloud storage plan, and I had already placed a requested to downgrade it to free plan. Now, when I request to switch from individual iCloud storage to shared iCloud storage, it errors out, saying "Cannot Complete Action" - This action cannot be completed at this time.

Has anyone else faced this issue and have any thoughts on how to switch iCloud storage ?
    Thanks.

    • Has anyone else faced this issue and have any thoughts on how to switch iCloud storage ?

I did a bit of troubleshooting this morning.

      1. I created a new throwaway Apple ID, based in Turkiye and added to the Family Sharing group.
Even though, this is a Turkiye based account, it could not use the iCloud shared storage.

      2. Next I deleted the Family sharing group.
After re-adding myself to the Family sharing group, I could not use the shared 200GB iCloud storage on my AU account.

Here is what it looks like: https://imgur.com/a/xbgI6dK

Any hints how to proceed forwards ?

  • I created a new throwaway Apple ID, based in Turkiye and added to the Family Sharing group.
Even though, this is a Turkiye based account, it could not use the iCloud shared storage.

I revisited this step again, by logging into the donor account and restarting the device.
Now the Turkiye throwaway account is able to see Shared 200GB space and perform backups to it.

This confirms Apple is geofencing the iCloud shared accounts as already stated in their documentation.

    • It seems everyone is starting to crackdown on these loopholes which allow people to subscribe in cheaper regions. A number of Apple forums have confirmed what you are experiencing, and Apple is indeed cracking down and geofencing iCloud accounts.

I haven't tried this hack and have an Australian iCloud subscription, but a family member who is now based in Singapore has been kicked out of the family. The issue only surfaced when they had to change their region in order to download some apps which are only available in Singapore. They could change their location back to Australia again or run an Apple ID for each country and keep switching back and forth, but that requires more effort and you would have to exit and then re-enter the family share each time you switched.

It seems the workaround would be to have everyone who is part of the family share to change their Apple ID location to Türkiye, but that would mean you would lose access to the Australian App Store.

      • Please share ang links to the Apple forums if possible. Thanks

  • Country or region does not match
To share with your family, you must use the iTunes Store or App Store in the same country or region as your family organiser.

    :((((

Edit: this error showed up when the link opened in Chrome. But when it opened in macOS System Settings, it worked. Thank goodness.

    • what do you mean when it opened in System Settings ? Im facing that same error :

Country or region does not match
To share with your family, you must use the iTunes Store or App Store in the same country or region as your family organiser.

      • I think I opened the link via Safari on my Mac. If you tap the link inside Messages on an iOS decide, I think that works too.

        • indeed failed on mac several times but worked when done directly on the iPhone, cheers!

  • So I just realised that Purchase Sharing stops working after doing all of this 🤦‍♂️

Would it work if I signed up to Oldubill and just entered the MasterCard number as the payment method, without any funds?

    • Update: it worked :D

  • -6

Sorry to OP but this is not a deal but waste of time.

    Switching acc
Topup gift card to manage payment
    Risk of losing apple ID

By doing all this tou save a very little tiny money. This is losing money.

If you need to share with family, Id ratger recommend apple one

So much cheaper inclduing music tv apps

Moreover tax for this purchase, goes to turkey gov mot Australian

    • Were you drunk when you wrote this gibberish?

  • I used the gift card for the initial sign-up. Do people simply redeem gift cards and ensure that there is enough balance for the monthly subscription?

    • Yes. Low balance -> Purchase GC -> Load Apple ACCOUNT -> Rinse repeat.

  • -1

    Does this still work?

    • +1

Yes, they haven't revised the forum but Oldubil is back to receiving foreign transfers. They were down temporarily.

      • I somehow can't change my country to turkey

  • +1

Apple not accepting OlduBil or Wise credit card as payment for new Turkey account?

    • Anyone found a solution to this?

  • +2

I remember TURGAME only selling 50TL gift cards previously, and having to redeem like 8 at a time.

Happily though, I see they now sell 1000TL gift cards. Just bought and loaded 4 - hopefully don't have to do this a few years now!

  • I just keep getting the error: "Your account cannot be created at this time"

  • Country or Region Does Not Match

To share with your family, you must use the iTunes Store or App Store in the same country or region as your family organizer.

EDIT : Dont try do this on your Mac, do it directly on your iPhone via the invite link

    • Facing the same issue, albeit I am using the India Apple One. Couldn't share as my main account is already in a family. Don't think the Indian account can share to another family group.

  • Anyone having trouble with Turgame. Bought Apple Gift Cards and all went through, but after credit card (and sms verification), it returns to cart with no other info. When you go to order history, it says "Pending Payment". But nothing happens after that. Tried several times over last few weeks and nothing ever gets charged to my card. Each time I have updated my bank to notify I'm "in Turkey" to do the transactions.

    • +1

I had these when paying via IYZI, orders seemingly go though, sms verification accepted, but amount is not charged to the card and then the order eventually gets cancelled.

Orders via PAYTR go through without issues (touch wood).

      • Thank you I'll try that!
