Welcome to the ultimate guide of Apple iCloud subscriptions

IMPORTANT

OlduBil: "Transfers from foreign bank accounts to our bank accounts in Turkey are not possible".

  • OlduBil is no longer accepting deposits/transfers from foreign bank accounts. Please DO NOT make any transfers into OlduBil (i.e. your Türkiye Mastercard) until further notice!

  • If you already have the funds in OlduBil from a previous transfer, you are free to use it for anything. For those wanting to top up your Türkiye Mastercard, please DO NOT initiate any transfers into OlduBil from Wise or Revolut until I have a new update

Every transfer done is at your own risk and the instructions in this deal may be outdated and may not work for you.

As per literally every guide I've completed, I've spent a chunk of money out of generosity to test the current validity of the following method as well as annotating screenshots throughout the sign-up process (see screenshots in the instructions section). Given the invention of the Virtual Turkish Mastercard via OlduBil, we now have a new set of instructions for those who wish to sign up that way, in addition to the regular Turkey Apple Gift Card method.

Please show some love and any comments, concerns, suggestions or feedback are welcome :)

Note: No VPN needed for this deal. Requires Appe Türkiye ID!

Modern problems require modern solutions. Like Spotify, Xbox Game Passes, Youtube, Netflix, Discord, Google One, Microsoft 365, relocating (virtually of course) to Turkey is usually the best option, with some methods saving hundreds or thousands of dollars each year added up.

As always, credits to Pricebeat for all the Apple ID related knowledge I've gained from their past posts. See any problems and fixes in the previous thread if you need to.

Enjoy :)

Instructions

This guide looks extensive (because I try my best to explain it simply for beginners) however if you've done this before and already have a Turkey Apple ID then it shouldn't take you more than a few mins as you can skip most of these instructions.

Part 1 – Türkiye Apple ID

If you already have a Türkiye Apple ID, decide whether you want to pay with Apple Gift Cards or your Virtual Turkish Mastercard via OlduBil. If paying using Gift Cards, proceed to Part 2. If paying with your Virtual Turkish Mastercard, complete Part 1 Step 2 below, then proceed to Part 3.

If you DO NOT have a Türkiye Apple ID, follow these steps below:

  1. Create a Türkiye Apple ID by going to: https://appleid.apple.com/account. Follow the on-screen steps (help point: see this screenshot). In the mobile number section, use your Australian mobile number (very important to use a valid mobile number or you risk losing your Türkiye Apple ID). Choose the country as "Türkiye". Then follow through the rest of the prompts to create your Türkiye Apple ID.

  2. While still logged in to your new Türkiye Apple ID, go to the Apple Payment Method link and add a Türkiye address (you can get a random Türkiye address here) to your Türkiye Apple ID. For the phone number, enter 61 (area code) and your Australian mobile number. For the payment method, select "none" if you want to top up your Apple ID with Apple Gift Cards, OR select "Credit or Debit Card" if you would like to use your Virtual Turkish Mastercard via OlduBil and enter the details in. Click "Save" to save your payment method.

If you selected "none" as your payment method, then you'll be paying with Apple Gift Cards. Proceed to Part 2

If you selected "Credit or Debit Card" as your payment method, then you'll be paying with your Virtual Turkish Mastercard via OlduBil. Proceed to Part 3.

Part 2 – Loading your Türkiye Apple ID with Türkiye Apple Gift Cards (if you need to)

  1. Buy Turkish Lira (₺) iTunes gift cards from TurGame (comes with denominations from ₺25 TL up to ₺1000 TL). Choose the currency as TL/TRY See how and pay with a debit/credit card (use a card that has no international transaction fees to avoid any extra costs). All transaction processors will have a small "Payment Partner Fee" attached - at checkout, choose the one that gives you the smallest fee.

How long will my gift card take to arrive? Turgame processes gift cards in their local timezone. If you're purchasing in the daytime, expect a long wait. If you're purchasing at 6pm onwards, expect a fast delivery

  2. Open the "Settings" app on your Apple device. At the top, click on [Your Name], then "Media and Purchases", then "Sign Out". Login with your Türkiye Apple ID.

  3. Redeem your Türkiye Apple gift cards by opening the "App Store" app, then click your account initials (located at right top corner). Click "Redeem Gift Card or Code" and redeem all your gift cards.

Part 3 – Subscribing to iCloud+ (use either Windows / iPhone or iPad / Mac)

  • If you already have an existing Türkiye Apple ID and would like to pay using your Virtual Turkish Mastercard via OlduBil, please complete Part 1, Step 2 before commencing Part 3 below (if you haven't done so already).

via PC/Windows (estimated <5 mins)

  1. Open the iCloud application. If you don't have it, download it here: https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT204283

  2. Log in with your Türkiye Apple ID.

  3. Press "Storage", then "Add Storage".

  4. Select the plan you want, then press "Next".

  5. Enter your Türkiye Apple ID password to confirm, then press "Buy".

If your Türkiye Apple ID is topped up with an Apple ID Balance, then this screen will show and your purchase is complete! Enjoy!

For those who would like to use your Virtual Turkish Mastercard via OlduBil, the payment screen will redirect you to Step 6 below.

  6. Press "Payment Info". Everything will be prefilled, except your OlduBil Mastercard CVV. Enter that in and press "done". Your purchase is complete! Enjoy!

via iPhone or iPad (estimated <5 mins)

  1. Open the "Settings" app and then tap [your name]. Scroll down and sign out of both iCloud and Media and Purchases and sign in with your Türkiye Apple ID.

  2. Tap "iCloud", scroll down and tap "Upgrade to iCloud+". If this doesn't show, tap "Manage Account Storage" or "Manage Storage".

  3. Choose a plan and tap "Upgrade to iCloud+". Follow the onscreen instructions.

If your Türkiye Apple ID is topped up with an Apple ID Balance, then your purchase is complete! Enjoy!

For those who would like to use your Virtual Turkish Mastercard via OlduBil, the payment screen will show and just proceed with the prompts (if not, then your purchase is complete! Enjoy!)

  4. Open the "Settings" app and then tap [your name]. Scroll down and sign out of both iCloud and Media and Purchases and sign in with your Australian Apple ID. Everything will be normal again.

via Mac (estimated <5 mins)

  1. See here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201318 (sorry I don't have a Mac to test this but I'd assume it'd be very similar to above).

Part 4 – Family Sharing (optional)

  1. Open the "Settings" app and then tap [your name].

  2. Tap "iCloud".

  3. Scroll down and tap "Share with Family".

  4. Tap "Invite Family Members" and follow the prompts. Invite your Australian Apple accounts and accept it on their end.

he's back!! well done mate awesome guide, will be doing this tommorow any sign of cheap apple music?

    • +6

Hey mate, thanks for your support :)
Pricebeat has created a post for Apple Music via Apple Türkiye. Just read both of our methods and sign up. Let me know if you need help.

  • +1

2tb will be higher than before (64.99 to 129.99 turkish lira)

    • +2

Yes, as per the guide. I need the 2TB plan for my family needs, and I'd rather pay $7.5 than $15.

      • Ah damn, so they jacked the price up :(

        • Yeah :(

        • damn! They double the price !! :(

Need to buy some more gift cards for this …

      • +2

Same here, I just received an email about it. I followed your instructions before and still subscribed with the 2 TB. Thanks again for doing these guides

  • what if apple bans the account… bye bye stuff in the storage?

    • +3

Myself and many others have been doing this for a very long time. I'd say chances are very, very slim.

    • +5

no, people usually use a separate account to share with the main account. If Apple bans the turkey account, you just register a new one and do it again

      • but then what do they store on icloud with a random account?

        • +7

The random account is just for the sake of obtaining the extra storage. We’re not storing on the random account, each person stores stuff on their own respective iCloud account.

          • +2

@I Smell Pennies: correct always use a dummy account which you share, means if your dummy account gets banned you still have your original one

            • +3

@Wiadro: Yes. Also I haven’t done research but I don’t believe anyone from OzB has ever been banned by Apple.

              • +2

@I Smell Pennies: only Amazon, eBay and PayPal, and only when you had a high credit balance. lol

            • +2

@Wiadro: Sorry, I'm a bit thick about this.

So you create a dummy Turkey account and share it with your real account.

If the Turkey account banned, wouldn't files you stored on the family account gets deleted too?

              • +1

@BigLeviathan: Yeah use the turkey account as the dummy, link your real accounts to it, if it gets banned I’m sure you’ll get a warning to either backup your files before they are deleted

                • +1

@Wiadro: What do you mean "link your real accounts to it"? I have an existing Apple ID with all my stuff in it, so I can link that to a new turkey account per this post and have access to all my stuff like before? Not really understanding yet… need to keep reading.

                  • +1

                    @freelife: That’s part 4

                  • @freelife: Im guessing you will need to switch to the Türkiye account on your device to access stuff like icloud photos?

                  • +1

@freelife: It's a great post, thank you @I Smell Pennies

@freelife @vash12 - "Link your real accounts" here means you create a dummy Turkey account to get the deal, then as per Step 4 share the storage with family by inviting your Australian Apple account to it. So you don't actually use the storage of the dummy account you continue to use your existing Australian account after accepting the invite, makes sense?

                    • @myspacebarisbroken: Yes correct @myspacebarisbroken

                    • @myspacebarisbroken: Thanks very helpful - so after I have done step 4. Can I cancel my iCloud subscription on my Australian Apple Account straightaway?

                      • @vash12: No worries mate.
Sorry for the late response, I didn't log in to OZB in a long time so didn't get the notification.

You must have already figured it out by now, but just to answer your question.

Yes, if you can confirm your subscription is active after accepting the invite, you can Australian subscription. Apple Discussion

    • They would need to ban all the accounts in the family as the data is not shared, just the quota.
Once setup, I only have the 1 account in Turkey, but all my existing accounts and family are set back to Australia.
ie: If they banned the primary Turkey account, the remaining family accounts go into exceeded quote, they don't loose the data. Then someone needs to purchase a new plan.
But yes, technically they could ban all accounts, but I also subscribe to O365 and all our photos are also backed up to OneDrive.
For me iCloud is just another layer of protection, but also maintains the LiveView images, which I assume are lost when I sync to OneDrive even via HEIC format.
I have been doing this for a really long time and no issues. I also use to sign-up to some sub services, but create logins using email so I can access on other devices like windows ect.

Hands down, one of the best post writings as always from ISP.

I'm into Apple Eco-System as well but for some reason I think I'm better off with some other cloud, i.e. I signed up for Google One using your post itself.

Why, is because that way I'm not sucked into some sort of monopoly as well as it comes really handy with android users in the family to share the photos and all.

    • Haha thank you for your support! Hope all is well :)

    • Can Google One do iPhone backups and WhatsApp backup too? Genuine question here. Thanks.

      • Google One is just a premium name and version of what Google photos and Drive do, so yes it does Backup iPhone and Whatsapp etc.

  • +2

While I don’t approve of bypasses like these, I appreciate your hard work and the value you bring for all of us @I Smell Pennies :) :D

    • +3

Cheers @sharing is caring, completely understand. Thanks for the support.

      • +1

        No, no, thank you 😊

  • Can I use revolut card?

  • +1

oldubil chose the worst time for maintenance!

    • +1

      For real!

    • literally though, I had just gotten a vpn working for Netflix when they went into maintenance mode

  • +1

Nice one OP. Thanks. For this and for all the previous ones. And for spending your own money to test etc.
Set up a GoFundMe. I'm sure the fellow OzBargainers won't mind chipping a few cents/dollars to show appreciation… Wait, who am I kidding, no we won't. But we will show appreciation by upvoting! Cheers

  • will that limit app installation in australia?

    • Short answer is no, as you can switch apple id in the AppStore app (not in the Settings app)
However, not sure whether it will impact the app feature and backup if the app uses iCloud from another region

  • +1

Not sure if I am the only idiot
While I have been using turkey way to get a few different app subscription (eg. disney plus)
for iCloud I still prefer to stick with Australia apple id….

    • How much you getting Disney+ for?

    • Any reason for this? I’m considering this for iCloud.

  • Main concern with region bypasses like this for google, microsoft and apple is how important those accounts are. If you got banned for violating TOS it would be a HUGE issue.

    • That’s why many use another account and use the family sharing feature

      • Right, but you have to use the same mobile number to sign up to both accounts? Very easy for them to work out it's the same person from number, device ID etc…

        • Ahhh shoot.
Didn’t get to edit my comment in time.

          Meant to add

That’s why many use another account and use the family sharing feature.
I’m not 100% sure how it works and would love an in-depth explanation because even without sharing I find iCloud weird at times.

As for linking, these companies could like you without common things like phone numbers if they really wanted too.

Again, would love another opinion and a breakdown of sharing ect.

          • @Zuelly: @myspacebarisbroken @I Smell Pennies

does the turkish apple ID require mobile phone number verification?

  • +1

Thank you for helping saving our money and enjoy what we love

  • Buying an iPhone right now just to capitalise on this deal.

    • Buy the most expensive one for maximum pleasure!

  • dayum value of the currency dropped so they doubled the price :(

  • I’m getting the following error when trying to add the oldubil card:

“Payment information could not be updated.
Contact Apple Support for more information.”

    • Tried on iPhone and Mac, getting the same error message.

    • Same for me, has anyone found a workaround/solution for this?

    • Getting the same issue. Any solutions?

    • Just to update, I managed to get it to work, not sure if I fluked an address it liked maybe? But I signed in to my Turkey AppleID using UrbanVPN and made sure to use the same AU mobile number linked to my AppleID. Good luck hopefully it works for you guys too

      • +1

So your tried a new address + VPN?

        • Yep. Tried a couple of other addresses yesterday without luck. So it's worth trying again with a few different addresses, same AU phone number

  • +4

If I'm reading it right, you do everything on the Turkish Apple ID and then invite your main Apple ID, but the Apple support forum/discussion says that you can't do family sharing if the accounts aren't in the same region?

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254354700

    clarification pls

    • +2

      ^ yes clarification pls

    • I get the same problem. Hey @I Smell Pennies, did you manage to add your australian Apple ID?
I've had the turkish apple ID for ages for subscriptions, but if I try and add my Australian Apple ID then I come up with an error "Invalid Store Account - Family members must use accounts in the same country or region…"

As per the link provided by @chet above, this also seems to confirm that you can't share across different countries (Turkey & Australia).
Has anyone managed to get this working?

      • I managed to get it working with family sharing, there was no problem

      • I also got stuck. My account has been added. Added my daughter's AU account to the family share as well.

However, cant swtich both of our iCloud storage from Personal 5Gb to shared 200GB iCloud.
        Any workarounds please advise? Thanks.

    • +1

I literally just managed to do all the steps above and add my aus account to the Turkish account. No issues so far!!

      • Perfect, thanks for testing that! Now, does it work for Apple Arcade too…?

        • I can’t remember where I read it buti don’t think we can?

  • +1

Legend thanks a lot for the guide OP, I really appreciate it. Was having issues with using iphone and mac for step 3 but tried windows and it allowed me to select "None" as a payment option :)

  • +2

how can you leverage this deal when you already have an Apple Family setup with a kid, e.g. "parent apple account" is already Family account organiser and "kid apple account" is a member of the Family account… and you approve app installs, etc for kid via "parent apple account"

can the "turkey apple account" fit in this mix so that the kid account can get more storage!?

    • I have the same question… wife uses iphone and administers the kids iphones. I use android, so not really familiar with apple accounts.

Will my wife still be able to maintain the kids and allow/deny app installations if shes logged into her aussie iphone account, or will this need to be done via the Turkish account?

  • Thank you for the great guide!
When you add your address and add the area code (90), which phone number do you put? Your Australian one?
Also just wanted to say when clicking on some of the photos in the post it comes up with 404 error.

    • Australian one yes! Let me fix that up sorry. +61 then Aus number

Let me see what's up RE photos thanks for flagging

      • For part 3 (via iPhone or iPad), do you press the red sign out button below all the devices you own? I did that and it seemed like it wasn't right lol. But then when I click the iCloud tab (above all your owned devices) I dont see any button to sign out.
Edit: I got to the stage of paying for iCloud+ in Turkish lira, but I'm getting notifications saying verification required and I need to add a payment method. I tried adding au card and it didn't work. Any help?

        • You'll need to use a Turkey Mastercard (see post on how to get one) OR use Turkish Apple Gift Cards as per the post instructions.

          • @I Smell Pennies: I bought the Turkish apple gift cards and redeemed it into my balance; I was planning to use that

            • +1

@jj2trappy: Ok, do you have access to a Windows device or PC? If so, do Part 3 via PC/Windows. Much easier. I'll investigate how to bypass the error on the iOS device but I'll need some time.

Also just wanted to say when clicking on some of the photos in the post it comes up with 404 error.

              Fixed.

              • @I Smell Pennies: Okay, thanks ill give it a go on windows. When I do it on windows do I need to be signed into the Turkish Apple ID on iCloud/media and purchases on my phone?
edit - thank you so much, I got it working! just a question tho, why is family sharing optional, what other way is there to get the Turkish gb onto Australian

              • +1

@I Smell Pennies: @I Smell Pennies: 'll investigate how to bypass the error on the iOS device but I'll need some time."

I dont have PC/Windows and was stuck at here. Can you please share any work round that is not using Windows?

              • @I Smell Pennies: I'm stuck on this too. Using spare iphone for turphone, loaded the turgame GC successfully. When I go to upgrade to iCloud+ I get the same verification required error. Grateful for any guidance

  • +1

Question: I already have an AU family setup (I am head of the family) and pay for AU storage. If I create a Turkish Apple ID and sign up to icloud, and add that to my family, does the family get access to the storage?

  • Can I buy music (individual songs from iTunes, not Apple Music subscription) using this method to get Gift Cards from Turkey?

  • I got the Revolut card and the OlduBil virtual Mastercard to use with Spotify. I made 2 transfers. One for around 28 lira which went through without issue and one for 500 lira which seems to have disappeared and OlduBil are not very helpful..Looks like I’m going to gave to try again shortly..

  • Just a quick question, sorry if already asked……

So the best way to not to affect my current Australia device is to follow the instruction and create a separate Turkey account then just add the Australia account/device as member.

I ask because before there were instruction that require login in and out of the Australia account which is PITA….

Also how many Australia ID can I add to the Turkey account?

    Thanks!

I posted what I did here
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14001814/redir

I used an old iPhone SE (cracked screen)
Logged in as the TRY account on iPhone SE (try-phone)

On my existing AU account (iPhone 12/iPad/Mac),
Cancel the iCloud+ family sharing (but kept it active 200GB on my account)
(from existing AU account) invite the new TRYphone account into (existing) family share
      I sent invite via iMessage
On TRYphone, purchase a 200GB iCloud+ family plan
      Share that with existing family

      • i'm trying to replicate this, but no luck. I think because I already purchased the 200GB plan with my new TRY account before setting family up? my setup:

        • mac with TRY account logged in
        • ipad with AU account logged in, family organiser
        • from ipad, invited TRY account, try to accept, but get the "Invalid Store Account - Family members must use accounts in the same country or region…" message
        • cancelled the subscription on mac (TRY account) - leaves me with 200GB that expires end of month
        • repeated process, still get the "Invalid Store Account - Family members must use accounts in the same country or region…" message

any advice on what else to try? the AU apple ID with family organiser has a kid attached, so don't want to mess that up…

        • Aren’t you doing it the wrong way around? The TRY account has to the the organiser as it’s the one being paid the cheaper sub. Then you invite your AU ids to share its data.

          • +2

@freelife: worked it out! i wasn't doing it the wrong way. looking at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14001814/redir:

invite the new TRYphone account into family share
            I sent invite via iMessage

I had tried inviting via "in person" and airdrop which both failed. but using iMessage (as per instructions, my bad) it worked!

now it's mostly good. TRY account is a member of my existing family, and now sharing the 200GB it has. only thing i can't (yet) work out how to resolve is getting the subscription re-enabled on the TRY account. i cancelled it trying to fix the error I had, and it expires in just under a month. it wont let me re-enable, only upgrade to 2TB.

            • +1

@fortyfour: Thanks, i couldn't get it to add the account "in person" but the imessage method you suggested works.

              • @aliam: Thanks, I was running into the same issue too… it failed every time I tried to accept the iMessage via iPad or Mac.

However, it WORKED when being accepted by an iPhone…thanks guys!

        • I had to temporarily change the region of all accounts to Turkey. Quick and easy.
Media and Purchases -> View account, then change Country\Region
