    • they do opticomm services as well but there plans are not cheap. and they don't offer good speeds. For those looking you can find opiticomm plans under FTTH

      • Any good opticomm deals out there? I'm with Superloop ATM and on the last month of the 6 month discounted plan.

        • Same. I’m with opticomm superloop. Not finding any good deals to switch over

  • +2

Not available for poor people like me

  • +12

Worth adding in the title this is for a couple of areas only:

"Ultra Broadband plan for Geelong, Ballarat and Mildura"

  • Thanks OP, worked for FTTB near North Sydney

  • +5

Great deal for those who can get it, 6 months free internet is a few hundred bucks of savings these days.

  • +2

Good deal OP well done, unfortunately I'm burdened with Opticomm aka Optiscum otherwise Id jump on this

A word of warning for potential iinet customers,
They are a shell of the company they once were.
I had to abandon them after 25yrs because things were going so downhill.
It's honestly hard to pinpoint exactly what went bad with the company but since switching to another provider it's a complete 180.

    • +1

Who are you with now @Jay-star?
I am with Internode which was acquired by iinet, and thinking of switching. Something is not quite right in the last 2 weeks or maybe more, some nights I can only get 13 Mbps download :(

    • +3

It's pretty easy to pinpoint what went wrong with iiNet actually, they were bought by TPG

  • Discount available to approved new iiNet Ultra FTTB connections (‘Eligible Customers’) at premises not connected to the Vision Network in the 12 months prior to order (‘Eligible Premises’) signing up to the iiNet Ultra FTTB Broadband Plans (‘Eligible Plan’). • Good spot, added to desciption

      • I searched online and couldn't find any terms or even a promotional page for their referral campaign. Please provide all the information (what is referral format, how to refer, what are the benefit for the existing and new customers) here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/139622 to request for it to be added to the system.

        • I searched as well and couldn't find anything. The guy on the phone mentioned it when I was about to hang up, said you use your customer number. Possibly only works when you order over the phone in this case.

          • @TheZimbabweanDollar: OK. Since we have so little information I have already put up the referral but only as a place holder. We can work out the finer details if anyone knows more and can give me the full terms and conditions.

            • @scrimshaw: Just signed up online, couldn't find anywhere to enter a referral code.

            • @scrimshaw: Online chat confirmed there is a refer a friend program. You need to signup over the phone and mention the referrer's name and customer number.

              • @jackofspade: Okay. The referral has been changed to Private messsaging and instructions added.

I have the Ultra Cable service. Can vouch for the speeds. At $40 per month for speeds of 960 Mbps (as of right now), I have no complaints.

  • Do they put a different Fibre cable? If I already have NBN fibre already?

    • +2

iiNet Ultra is copper or a fibre and copper mix. You most likely can't get this since you have nbn FTTP.

      • +1

        right, thnks

        • FTTP is the best you can get. What is your nbn speed plan?

  • +1

Anyone know if it's easy enough to put iiNet's modem in bridge mode (or use my existing one)? Struggling to find anything recent on whirlpool, apart from a geenral bridging guide. Running an ASUS router which has the typical PPPoE etc settings with a Telstra modem in bridge mode to ABB.

ABB have recently increased my price because I'm on a legacy plan, so it might be a good time to vote with my wallet.

      • Thanks xwx. I'm in an FTTB building in Perth CBD and they've caught my attention in the past with FTTB deals, so now might be a good time to switch.

Currently using the Telstra modem to connect down to the "nbn room" over copper. If I can plug into the eth port of the new box, I'm cautious since I've heard others have had to deal with double NAT issues (when attempting a similar thing with the Telstra modem).

I might have to call them up to discuss (but I'm sure they'll say they can't support my setup in any way).

          • @xwx: Ok thanks mate, will see what I can find out!

              • @xwx: Thanks, yeah looking forward to a (possible) upgrade from 50mbit, haha

              • +1

@xwx: After explaining the issue twice to the salesperson on the phone, she then conferred with her technical colleagues, who confirmed that I would be able to use bridge mode in the same or similar manner as I currently am (and most likely with my existing Telstra modem as bridge). So I'm proceeding with the sign up… fingers crossed I don't get burned, haha.

I'm 99% sure it's possible. I'm on TPG which owns IINET.

If it's Vision Networks FTTB and you are on a 250Mbps plan or faster then they give you a NTU (G.Fast modem) which plugs into the old phone line. Using an ethernet cable you plug that into the supplied router or the one you have.

If you are on the 100Mbps FTTB plan or less then they give you a TP-Link VX420-G2h modem router which plugs into the old phone line. If it's the same as TPG then this device will be locked down (you have an admin account but they have the root account) and they will effectively control it but it can be bridged to your own router so it effectively just functions as a modem. I used to do this when I was on the 100Mbps plan because the old router (TP-Link VR1600v) had buggy Wi-Fi and I wasn't comfortable with TPG having the ability to spy on my LAN.

See here for the default equipment:
          https://help.iinet.net.au/set-ultra-broadband-fttb

            • @xwx: Good to know. I know on the old router the root credentials were available online but my main concern was security. I didn't bother fussing around instead I just set up a bridge because the Wi-Fi used to drop on occasion. The TP-Link VR1600v was a piece of garbage. As soon as I bridged it to my router/AP all the problems were solved.

    • +1

Not sure if this will impact your use case - but I just had mine installed.

They attended and provided a separate modem (Zyxel GM4100-B0) and connected this box to the wall. That Zyxel modem then connected to their supplied TP-Link modem/router, but using the TP-Link as a router only.

Here's the diagram for my exact set up: https://imgur.com/qsiEhwr

      • Thanks mate, just had a look at your diagram (nice of you to draw it up for us!). Is the access point the TP-link? Both are labelled Zyxel.

In my case, I'm hoping to use their supplied modem (TP-link VX420-G2h, from memory) as bridge, to my ASUS router (which does ethernet and wifi throughout my place).

          • @xwx: Awesome, thanks again for the info xwx.

I haven't (yet?) received an NTU from iiNet, even though their provided VX420 modem/router has arrived. Assuming that they are installing gFast, then I'm expecting the technician will bring an NTU on Monday. However, good to know that I might be able to bypass a bridge modem completely and install my existing ASUS directly into the NTU.

            • +1

@thisisscotts: Yes the installer brought the NTU on the visit itself. I didn't draw up the diagram lol, it was from Zyxels website.

And yes, the access point in the diagram is the TP-Link

              • +1

@Keeegs: Haha ok, gotcha. I just assumed you were a total baller and did up a diagram just for these comments.

Thanks for the confirmation about the TP-link.

                • +2

@thisisscotts: Came back to report that the technician visited not long ago and swapped me over to gFast (within the building) with a Zyxel GM4100 (gFast-ethernet converter).

I used the TP-link VX420 router that iiNet supplied me as a first step and made sure the internet was working (and is much faster than my last plan).

Then took a copy of the settings that were in the TP-link (PPPoE, username, password "NotRequired") and put these into my existing ASUS router. Connected the ASUS (WAN) directly to the Zyxel (LAN1) and seems like we're up and running.

For anyone else reading along and wanting to know how it works - think of the new Zyxel box that the technician brings on the day as your new bridge modem.

Thanks @xwx and @Keeegs for the assistance!

Excludes existing Vision Network connections, including TPG Fibre and Vodafone Vision customers.

I am currently with TPG FTTB 250, can I pretend as a new tenant connecting to iiNet with this discount?
Don't know what Vision Network or other jargons mean. Does iiNet know TPG was once connected to an address?

    • Vision Network is the name of the old TPG FTTB network after it split out from TPG

    • They are the same company effectively. I guess you could try and if that doesn't work you could get someone else to sign up for you.

    • I just tried they can tell. They know what TPG connection you have in their system. You would have to get someone to sign up for you.

      • What do you mean getting someone to sign up? By calling? Or use a different name?

        • +1

Cancel your plan then get someone to sign up for you. Maybe someone you live with. After you are signed up change the billing details to yours.

  • I'm finishing the 6 months promo of $39.99/m FTTB. It was good, only went offline once during the past 5 months. They upgraded it to 1000/100 when I got connected.

    • Yes me too. Can we sign up to this as existing customers?

  • so are we saying new customers (signup with different person) or does the not connected in last 12 months prevent? existing connection (asking for a friend)

  • Seemingly no penalty to leave after 6 months…? (eligible for Vision Network)

  • This was finally the impetus to cancel Capti and jump ship. 6 months free is just too much to leave on the table to support Capti.

    • Capti is Vision FTTB afaik, same infrastucture as iiNet FTTB and TPG FTTB

  • Ahh, I just ordered last week on the $39 for 6 months offer, connection appointment is on Monday, too late to switch do you think?

    • Ring them up. If they so no you might be able to cancel the service then resign up before 01/07 when this deal ends.

        • If you are not home for the connection appointment then you don't have an existing connection.

Call them up and try get them to price match it or cancel before the appointment then resign up for this deal.

TPG had a similar deal before not for existing customers which I managed to take advantage of. You just have to try sometimes.

            • @xwx: Let me know how it goes.

                • +1

@xwx: That's odd. You can check for it's physical presence.

Sometimes theres TPG manhole covers in the street. You could also try check for the network cabinet. Mine is right next to the NBN one.

The ISPs send out advertising flyers for the applicable services if you search your address on their sites.

                    • @xwx: Oh yeah I get ya.

                      What a pain.

Either way I would try locate the network cabinet. The techs are pretty clueless and don't have access keys so you will probably have to show them where it is when they eventually come to install it. I've got the highest TPG plan available and get 927/110. Can't complain but free for 6months on iinet would be good!

            • @xwx: Beware there is a $89 fee to cancel the appointment

  • Anyone know why Canberra can still run VDSL?
all NBN did for me was to Jack up prices for same speeds and provide less reliability.

  • I mean if you really want a free year, jump on to the Vodafone vision office. Must have an existing phone service with them phone. Can be cheap sim only

  • +1

So I currently have the 39.99 vdsl2 connection offer. Can I cancel this one and my partner can sign up for this $0 offer as a new customer for the same address? Or are they enforcing the criteria that the place should not have a vision network connection in the last 12 months?

    • I'd like to know this too

  • what is vision network?

  • Is this behind a CGNAT (Carrier Grade NAT) and if so, how much extra is it to not be behind one? (Assuming you even have that option).
I'm asking as another OzBargain post that mentions the Vision Network apparently does not allow getting out of a CGNAT.

  • I'm confused. Is this for new customers only?
