  • Is the S7 camera the same as S7 Edge? They are quite good, right?

    • +9

The cameras are identical for both models, and are currently the best cameras in a smartphone IMO.

      • Can it do optical zoom?

        • You realise the only phone basically out at the moment that has optical zoom is the very heavy and thick Asus Zenfone Zoom, which on mearly every camera review fares worse than other flagships?

        • @smileymiwo: Right. But I'm glad iPhone 7 plus finally with 2x optical zoom. Everyone else will follow including Samsung

      • I compared LG G4 and S7 camera's back to back and it was pretty close but S7 was slightly better for indoor low light shots (slightly less noise in photos). However G4 was slightly better for outdoor shots in good light as it has 16MP sensor vs 12MP on S7. If you can pick up a good second hand G4 for $220 off ebay like I did, the G4 is absurd value for a phone with such a good camera.
        PS> I own about 8 cameras, including 3 SLR's so I know a bit about photography.
PPS> just hoping my G4 does not die from boot loop like many others have :(

    • +3

camera is same on s7, s7 edge & note 7! Excellent camera btw… its super fast, takes great pics in low light & indoors!!

      • Thanks, is this model support Australia 4G bands for single or dual sim models?

        • +1

          4G Network: LTE Cat9 700/800/850/900/1700/1800/1900/2100/2600 (Bands 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,12,13,17,18,19,20,25,26,28), TD-LTE 1900/2300/2500/2600 (Bands
          38,39,40,41)

          covers all the bands

    • +4

The S7 camera is unbelievable. My friend took holiday photos on his and I had to ask if they were taken on an expensive camera or just a phone.

      • +2

Before I got the s7 I would carry a dslr around so often while on holidays and my last holiday I didn't get it out anywhere near as much because of how good photos and videos are on the s7.

        I agree!
        It's fantastic.

        • And what's nice is they, unlike Apple, (and I say this as an iPhone user who loves the photos his phone takes) don't skimp on OIS for the smaller model. You get everything the Edge\Note gets.

I love my iPhone and wouldn't give up iOS, but in terms of screen quality and camera quality, Samsung is absolutely kicking ass right now.

    • +3

The camera is un-fkn-believable. Took this shot at a recent wedding… indoors, low light, no flash, just a one-off point & shoot: https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/67715/41757/cheese_fru… … and keep in mind that's been resampled down to about a tenth of its original size too. Not sure how it sucks the light in but yeah they're just incredible cameras.

Have obviously taken loads of other amazing shots but nothing I want to post here ;)

      • This blurry photo is amazing? Check out what the 6p can take (by yours truly).

        http://i.imgur.com/iAMRYx7.jpg

        • -2

          LOL

Yeah, those two pictures are totally comparable

          /s

        • +11

          @noone:
Do you mind I'm trying to justify my puchase

        • Must be a pretty wide angle lens with the distortion, my Sony z5 is the same.

      • At the end of the day, there are tons of cameras that have great lenses and sensors that let you tinker around in pro mode and create a good photo.

The past two generation of Samsung phones, Galaxys and Notes have been the best at taking a great photo in a second. Double click on the home button, point, click, put it back in your pocket and keep walking.

        • So buying a s7 device is a good choice? I just bought two from this seller.

  • Seems pretty cheap. Could probably sell my S6 64gb Aus stock on ebay for close to that. Dont think the slight upgrade is worth the bother though.

    • +7

if you want added protection of water resistance, expanded memory, larger battery & better camera, then it's worth the upgrade at these prices imho! but all said, s6 is still a great phone!

      • Micro sd?

        • +3

          Yep and easily runs 256Gb!

    • +1

Sell your S6 for $600? Tell him he's dreaming ;)

      • Look at current prices for Aus stock.. wouldn't be hard mate. Would be able to get at least $500 at minimum.

        • -1

Lol nop. Not possible. You're dreaming. No demand, old model, used phone. You'd be lucky to get $500.

          You're dreaming.

        • Yeah I know the market because I sold mine a few months ago for $470.

They are brand new at Officeworks for $700 and if you look around you can get them for less than $600, best of luck to you. If you can get $600, well done I say.

        • @snagseb: Well we will see. Hell, I got $250 for my S3 just before upgrading to the S6. I paid $868 for the S6 just over a year ago, wouldn't surprise me to get close to $600 as I have original box and it is in mint condition and 64gb model. Being Aus stock is appealing to some people too. I don't really know if it is worth the hassle anyway, might just wait for S8.

        • @nubzy:

Well i guess if you can find a buyer then sure, why not. I upgraded to the S7. Well worth it for me. Battery life over the S6 alone was enough. The fact it's faster, has a better screen and camera was a big bonus. Best of luck!

  • -1

interesting how the dual sims are cheaper, in theory it should cost more as there's 2x IMEI

    • And the firmware is apparently the same too. You can flash AUS firmware to the dual sim ones and it will still detect the second sim.

    • -1

dual sim will be useless by the end of the year as tesltra turns off 2g,

They're already using part of the 2g to create the 4gx network

I believe optus and vodaphone has already turned it off?

Dual sim, means one is on 3&4g, the other on 2g.

      • +2

The main purpose for me in getting a dual sim card is so that I can have 2 sims in when traveling internationally. I would only be using data on one sim card at any one time. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the network will still work.

        • +2

Check out the World Phone app as it may suit your needs.

      • There are new dual phones these days such as Moto G4 and Oppo which have 4g + 3g simultaneously.

      • +2

Worst case scenario is that you can only use 1 SIM, which is the case with 1 SIM phone. The second slot is also shared with micro SD card so I guess you can use it for that?

  • +1

damn that's good, especially since the note 7 is hardly any different from the s7edge - The s7 edge is easily the best phone for the next 2 years

I'm more curious about shipping time.

Anyone here bought anything substabtial from shoopingsquare?

    • They state that their HANDLING TIME is 7-14 days and shipping (expedited international) is on top of this, so I'm counting on a longish wait. eBay says to expect delivery by 31 Aug for the phone bought today. If you need the phone quickly you might need to look elsewhere.

  • Does this include GST? (For those who are bringing this overseas to claim 10% TRS)?

    • I think they don't have GST yet for imported phone.

    • +2

There is no GST payable on items under $1000, so you can't claim the 10% TRS. They have abolished the $1000 threshold but this isn't due to be implemented until mid 2017.

  • Will this work with kogan sim without any network issue?

  • hows warranty with them?

  • It says AU Warranty? Is it vendor warranty? Anyone having any experience with these guys.

    • I bought note 2 then note 3 from them and they are really good seller, never had issue with the seller. Warranty is not Australian, you need to claim through seller and send your device to seller and they will handle the rest.

      • This seller provide sealed boxed phones or opened box….just need to confirm as i never bought from them.Earlier i bought LG G4 from QD eBay Group and its box was not factory sealed.

        • i never got sealed box, always got opened from all grey importers. I think, they open it to check the stuff is actually present in the box.

        • They open the pack and check everything works. They usually state that in the web page.

        • @randomrandom:

I received a S7 from T-Dimension on Monday and it was sealed with official Samsung seal on box.

        • -1

Bro, just wanna let you know, for the reason they gave is not reasonable. a new factory phone doesnt require to check again. check all your screws in the phone, if there is a mark then it is definitely a refurbished item / second hand.

my suggestion is DO NOT purchase any unsealed box item, no matter what reasons they gave.

  • +1

Such good pricing for such a darn good phone

  • +1

$600 for S7, this is bloody cheap!

  • deleted..

    • No… it says Grey Import in the title and non Aussie models in the first line of the description. The Aussie models are not dual sim either.

      • K thanks,

  • If you use 2 SIMs at the same time, will that mean you can't use the micro-SD? In other words, is the micro-SD slot the same slot as the 2nd SIM slot?

    • +1

Good question. I googled and found this http://bgr.com/2016/03/24/galaxy-s7-tricks-dual-sim-microsd/

So you can really only use one or the other, unless you want to try chopping up your second sim!

      LOL…

    • Yea unfortunately that is correct. I'm not sure why they even bother with 2 different models. Why not make all models dual SIMs as there's very minimal difference between the two. Even the firmware is the same.

    • +1

A reddit user hacked his second SIM slot to run a SIM and a MicroSD card and it worked. He tried to do the same hack on his Note 7 and killed the handset.

      • Do you have a link to the post?

The 'hack'/'mod' can be done by any layman - separating the chip from the simcard and then gluing/taping it to the back of the microsd in the same orientation and position where it occupies. The last time I looked it up for the s7 edge, people had been doing it with other dual sim phones (e.g. xiaomis) where the 2nd slot was microsd/sim hybrid.

Was the Note 7 sim slot physically damaged? How was the phone damaged to the point of being unusable?

  • +1

Also, what is the cheapest at the moment for local AU stock?

  • I'm not sure how substantiated it is, but there are people saying that the s7's camera cracks easily without impact. Thought I'd put that out, especially since it's grey import.

    • Found this thread: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-S-Phones/s7-edge-…
22 pages of posts from April 2016 to 3 weeks ago.

On reddit it seems some people are being told its not a warranty issue and are needing to pay for replacement. Not sure how wide the problem is.

    • Not too sure about that. My S7 Edge fell out of my Hoodie pocket on a ride and landed on the street without me noticing. I didn't know until I got home to find it missing so went back to look for it and found it face down with obvious tyre tread marks over the back of the cover. Picked it up to find the screen shattered BUT everything was still working 100% perfectly… including the camera! So, if the camera lenses were truly prone to cracking then I'd say it should've cracked after being run over but as it didn't I can't see how this is a common fault. May only be a certain batch?!

  • I have been using this mob called shopandmint (https://www.shopandmint.com/au/) and they are giving 2% cashback for any eBay purchase. What do you think?

    • I think minimum withdraw is 50 vs 5 from cashrewards. So you'd need to spend 2.5k worth of goods before you get anything back

    • +2

They have not processed any of my transactions from January 2016!!! I sent them a few emails - no reply….

      • That's what I thought. Too good to be true. Thanks fellows.

  • Anyone thinking about buying the Note 7?

    • +1

I cancelled my Note 7 pre-order last night. The S7 Edge (import) is half the price of the Note 7 (Aus stock) at the moment.

      • +2

        Who buys Aus stock?

        • -2

Generally Australian citizens who want convenience

    • count me in

  • I'm really tempted by the pink S7 Edge. I just cancelled my Note 7 pre-order last night and I am currently using a cheap $59 Telstra Buzz 4GX as I was going to wait for the new iPhone release (gave iPhone 6S Plus to my sister a few weeks ago).

  • Excellent price!

Id go with the S7 as i cant sense that edgeappeal ;) But if you are after larger size or Note 7, S7 edge is a steal!

  • +5

Bit the bullet and bought the Edge in black.
Was waiting for it to hit $600… but I caved.

    Goodbye iPhone.

  • Are these the models with the superior Enyxos cpu?

    • Ebay description for the s7 says Exynos cpu (way down the bottom).

  • +2

MUST RESIST TEMPTATION. my eyes says yes, but my wallet says no

  • Great price!! Just what I'd been waiting for.

  • Got it, thanks heaps for finding this!

  • Any differences between the Aus version and this (besides warranty/dual sim)?

Also isn't shopping square the company everyone used to hate on because of really slow shipping?

  • but shopping square doesn't seem to have good reputation on delivery and warranty.

  • Ahhhh black OOS hopefully they restock

    • The black edge was popular too!! Sold out already - glad I didn't think about it too much and just hit buy :)

    • Black came back in stock. I managed to buy one.

  • Just thinking about it and quite tempted to just bite the bullet and buy one and sell my S6 when it arrives. I could probably get at least $500 for it as it is 64gb version and Aus stock bought from JBHIFI. Hmm.. do you guys think its worth it?? How much better is the camera?

Are there any downsides to this deal with warranty, or any hardware differences between local model?

  • S7 will nicely compliment your 64gb micro sd card.

  • Is the second SIM 2G only?

    • +1

Quick search seems to indicate it is so the dual SIM functionality may be of no use once the 2G networks are turned off.

      • Apparently Vodafone won't be switching off 2g

        • Yup. I think you are right. I read something on their website. Limited choice I guess.

  • Can you use Samsung Pay in Australia (aussie credit card)with a grey import? Or do you have to flash it first?

    • yes you can, just scan the card with phone camera or input manually, make sure you don't use a thick case otherwise it's not close ebough for NFC to make payment :)

      • You would have to flash it with aussie firmware first before Samsung Pay shows up

        • If you root it you will trip knox and you won't have samsung pay anymore

        • @rememberme:

That's correct. As long as you still use official ROM with no root you'll have Samsung pay

  • Got the gold at the end

  • Want it… but have s6 edge and still happy with it…… but… want it. Dang it. Don't do it!!!!!!!

    • Its so tempting.. I have S6 regular and considering grabbing an S7 (maybe the edge). It would be a very minimal outlay (if any at all, HN still sells S6 brand new for $800+ so probably possible to get atleast $600 on Gumtree/Ebay for used) after selling the S6. Hmm…
