  • @bargaingrabber you beat me to it haha

  • +10

Astounding deal for an excellent phone. Had mine since launch day and it's been excellent.

    • +9

Except the fingerprint scanner is rubbish. Uselessly so. Kinda makes me on the fence about recommending it.

Otherwise good phone, with average battery life.

      • +19

FWIW, I have had zero issues with the fingerprint scanner

        • +2

Same. Someone was saying people with dry fingers have issues, but I guess my fingers are always oily.

        • +1

Me neither, nor do either of my 2 work colleagues with the same device.

      • +15

Can't beat Pixel 5 fingerprint sensor on the back.

      • +2

My finger scanner has been great, it has been as reliable as my old samsung note 9, although I have only had my pixel 7 for 2 months

      • -3

Agree. I moved from a s22 ultra to pixel 7 and the fingerprint scanner is significantly worse on the pixel

      • +1

Works so much better when you add the same finger or thumb a couple of times

      • I found the fingerprint scanner unusable with a screen protector (tried different ones), but fine without. Worse than pixel 5 scanner but usable.

        • I've got a pixel 6 and if you add a couple of extra scans and turn the sensitivity up with a glass screen protector it is 💯% no issue

      • +1

No issues with finger scanner. I have it for few months now pretty good at scanning even with tempered glass. Only once didn't recognise when I tried unlocking while eating fries.

      • At this it's a third of the price of a new iPhone with 90% of the build quality and 150% of the functionality.

Finger print scanner on all pixels is fine btw if you know how to set it up

  • -6

Does it compare to S23 Ultra or totally different leagues ?

    • +25

where to buy the s23 ultra at $674.10 and $150 GC?

        • +10

Dude, think about where you're posting…

          • +3

@mickeyjuiceman: Is this Holy Ozbargain now ? 😁

            • +4

@ChipsChicky: It's the usual "Kia is better than BMW overall because cheaper" OzBargain :-)

              • @mickeyjuiceman: I'd argue Kia is better as you can still drive them after several years of use without spending a fortune on upkeep. Used prices tell their own story.

    • +3

      1 S23U = 3 x pixel 7. Pixel 7 is best in term of price/performance.

      • -1

Thanks, that's what i wanted to confirm quickly.

    • +1

The S23 Ultra is massive in size compared to this.

    • +1

It's the typical diminishing returns thing. I think the pixel sits at a good point.

I upgraded from a S20FE to a S22 Ultra. It wasn't really as big as upgrade as I expected. There are a lot of nice to haves but also not really really needed - better camera, better fingerprint reader, better screen(brighter, variable refresh), build quality, s-pen, etc. But honestly, the S20FE was good enough for me.

Worth evaluating whether you really need to go to flagship level.

      • Yeah, VERY few people actually need anything past a mid-level phone these days, they're so good. Not the same wank factor, though.

        • I don't need more processing power but a camera upgrade would be nice.

          • +1

@us3rnam3tak3n: I'm extremely happy with the camera on my 6A, as long as I remember it's a phone camera and not one one of my real cameras :-)

            • @mickeyjuiceman: Yeah, reviews seem to show it's not really worth upgrading from the 6A but I'm on the galaxy S10e. Takes a nice photo still but probably short of pixel quality.

          • @us3rnam3tak3n: Camera is my motivation for phone choice for my last few phones. I was pretty happy with my S20FE. I haven't really put the s22 ultra through its paces yet but it seems to be an improvement.

  • Might bite actually.

  • Can anyone suggest if the UE Boom 3 is worth the extra $ over the Anker Soundcore 3?

    • Buy now research later, maybe out of stock soon. If not satisfied cancel the order

    • +2

If you have friends who also have booms they can pair together which is neat.

      Downside is micro-usb still.

      • Ahh micro usb that's interesting, thanks

      • Yep, That's the reason I jumped ship to JBL. I refuse to buy anything with Micro USB

  • +3

Wow, feel bad for everyone who bought Pixel 7a.

    • -3

Pixel 7a probably has a better battery life
      https://www.tomsguide.com/reviews/google-pixel-7

      • -2

It doesn't. In fact the 7a's battery life is absolutely atrocious despite having the same SOC powering it, with a worse screen:

        https://www.gsmarena.com/battery-test.php3

        Pixel 7: 96h
        Pixel 7a: 76h

        The 7a's score is terrible.

In our testing, the Pixel 7a didn't exactly return spectacular results, with standby and voice call longevity being below average. It did somewhat redeem itself in the screen-on tests, where the nearly 15 hours on our Wi-Fi script are as good as on rivals, while the 18:12h of looping videos is a bit below the competition, but still solid. The overall Endurance rating of the Pixel 7a then works out to 76h.

So there would appear to be something wrong with software or low power states, probably correctable with an update. I'd look directly at feature sets when deciding which one to buy.

EDIT: There was an issue with the Google app. This seems to have affected results for both models in the latest review comparisons.

    • Yup. Crying atm.

      • +1

Got my 7a for the same price on click frenzy day.

The 7an and 7 are so close though… Pros and cons to both. But the 7 is prob a tad better.

      • +2

Not crying just yet. Will be crying when the 7a is lower than this. If they were the same price I still would buy the 7a because I want my phone as small as possible, and I like the plastic back.

        • My thoughts exactly.

    • Isn't the 7A much smaller in size?
      Possibly different markets

    • +3

My step-son has a 7 and I just bought a 7a. The size of the 7a suits me better and it does all I need.

      No gift card though

        • ah ok thanks!

  • +1

    Now tempting

  • Does anybody know the gift card 150$ can be used in the same transaction and get further price down?

    • This is relevant to my interests.

    • -3

      Yes, if done in store.

      • Good to know thanks mate. Will let the stock gods decide if I get this phone or not tomorrow arvo.

        • I’m very tempted to swing by on my way to work tomorrow.

    • +3

Says issued within 2 weeks so unlikely we'll get it instantly

      • -2

Nah on the product page it says instant and can be used in same transaction in store. Only online orders take a couple of weeks for it to be sent out

        • +2

We are you reading that? I cant see anything on the page the says that. All i can see is that if you buy in store you get the card at the time of purchase.

    • Will receive in 2 weeks but also wonder if there is a way

    • +1

I really doubt it. I previously got a gift card on a transaction and it wasn't an option. I ended up selling mine for a discount on its face value.

  • The white colour looks nice, just not sure if it'd discolouring/yellowing after 1,2 years.

  • Price is displaying at 749? Am I missing something please ozbarginers help a friend out

    • +1

Apply your unique Perks code at checkout to get the price in title

      • +1

I am very silly. Legends thank you, I really needed a new phone

    • +1

Need to apply unique 10% off perks code when checking out

  • -6

Pixel 8 out in 2 months

    • Will it be with Tensor 3

    • +7

pixel 9 out in 14-15 months

  • +1

Anyone had any experience with the camera glass spontaneously shattering on these?
    I've heard it's a disaster convincing Google it's a manufacturing defect.

    • +1

my pixel 7 has not had any spontaneously shatter and i had this phone for 6 months. and i have dropped it many times to add on it. camera glass seems very durable

  • How easy is it to transfer from data from iPhone to google ?

    • +1

There's an app that makes it pretty easy to move most things over.

Obviously your paid apps on Apple will not come over to Android, you would need to buy them again…

      • Sweet Thanks
