grababargain's comment got me curious whether the Microsoft store is included in the promotion.
Ringing up, I found out that it does qualify, so long as I purchase between the promotional period.

Currently there's also an offer for 2 FREE games, although the rep couldn't guarantee if it would still be available on the 26th. Although I would assume it would, as the fineprint states: "Offer valid from 15 November 2013 until 14 January 2014, while supplies last."

EDIT: You have to print out the emailed receipt from the Microsoft store as well as the page(s) from xbox360cashback.com.au and mail it to them no later than the 31st of January.
The cash back will be deposited into your selected bank account in 8-12 weeks.

      Believe it or not, the promotion was printed and distributed in both the Target and Big W catalogs. I put two and two together and figured that the Microsoft store would also be running this promotion.

        Yeah I saw that promotion in the catalogues. Just trying to get confirmation on if we are allowed to have it advertised for other retailers who are also part of promotion just as of yet. Just know that this why not a-lot of people know about this promotion as not everyone has been told yet.There are T&C and once I know if I am allowed to put them up I will if not I will do it when the promotion goes live so you don't have to go into store and pick up a leaflet.

          For example, you know why they have Boxing day sales, so everybody goes and buy Gift cards. Yes sounds weird, but it is kind of stupid to buy something before Christmas, isn't it, knowing the sales are just around the corner, so you spend 50$ or 100$ on a giftcard (basically a piece of plastic), and the person receiving then "has" to spend it on something ….
          In regards to the shotgun … I have no license for weapon. If I had one, I would go for a SG 552, with laser, combat scope.

      No, Xbox stores are IP address blocked. So if you access Xbox store from IP domiciled in Aus, you won't get the full features of the US Xbox Store. Even if you have a US Xbox Live account.

          That's what I meant. Most items you can purchase in US prices using US account from Aus. However, I have found a very small number of items you can't buy. It shows up as 'not available in your region'.

          I haven't bothered with Hulu, Netflix etc

          I really can't say, apologies. All I know is that on very few occasions, I've been unable to take part in freebies or discounted game offers from Xbox.com because of IP blocking. My guess is that the situation would be the same to the PS3. I don't see Xbox.com being able to sell US L4D2 content for Aus IP, as an example. But that's my guess.

    I'm interested in whether it will be available online as well as in store. It seems that you might have to purchase a very specific model which if you pick up the wrong one you won't be eligible. And with the short window of time to purchase and claim it's not enough time to realise your mistake and swap it over.

    Pisses me off that we have to slow down development on real next gen games because of the console popularity. Namely the rumours that Direct X 12 won't come out or it will but Microsoft are slowing down the release. Consoles suck compared to PC games tech but no we have to dumb our games (ported) and tech (DX) down because of $$$. Yes I know this is a random comment

    Buy PC With Windows and get a Gamepad, You got the best gaming system in the world, don't know why MS don't put out Ads letting the world know they have the best gaming platform and have had for years

        That's exactly the point being made. If the device is cheap it becomes popular. Because it's popular stuff gets developed for it. Cross platform titles are developed/required to run on the lowest spec platform, which means people who buy the game on a high spec platform get some basturd crippled port of game.

        I did the move from PS3 to a gaming PC, it only cost maybe $400 and plays everything I've thrown at it. Add to that all the cheap Steam games and in the end I suspect you might actually save money.

        I'm finished with last gen consoles, no more crap; graphics, framerates and blurring effects in an attempt top hide lack of details. Some games had this real bad; FC3, SR3, Sleeping Dogs are just a few. After playing even a basic PC game like Prime World Defenders (~50cent tower defence game) at 2560x1440 with a smooth steady framerate even the thought of playing my PS3 makes me cringe.

    Bah, it's for the 4GB only.

    If you buy a HDD and insert it yourself, it will come close to just buying a SKU that already has it. 4GB is going to severely limit what you can do on the thing. So many downloadable titles you'll miss out on. DLC also. And some games that require installs.

    My fear is that because the window of opportunity to claim is so small, if there's any delays in shipping or delivery, by the time I receive it it might be too late.

    Boxing day is a public holiday, so probably no delivery that day. You've really only got 5 days. Probably safer to buy it at Target or JB.

    Unless you can backdate the claim, but there's no indication in writing that you can do that.

          Unless they update their T&Cs, I think you can make a case (take a screenshot before you buy) that nowhere in their T&C does it say that S model is excluded from the promotion. All it says is a 4GB console, which is what you bought.

          So if they reject your claim, you point out their T&C and I don't think they can defend it.

        It's not uncommon for a big corp to outsource their promos to a 3rd party to handle.

        This is a very valid point.

        I'm still suspicious of this website, especially since Microsoft has not fully confirmed it. We need more proof that this website is legit. Major retailers may not have done their due diligence to ensure this cashback is legit. If it is fake, then in theory you could hold the retailers liable for any identity and bank information theft as a result of this website. However, that alone would be a nightmare to fix - think of the direct and indirect/consequential damages it would have.

    The Microsoft store price has gone up to $199, but still has the 2 free games. Curiously it still says "Save $30 & get 2 free games" even though the price is listed as $199.

    Edit: Actually, once you go through selecting the games, the price is back to $169. Not sure if that's an error…

      I added the xbox and 2 games for $169 @23:58, and checked out at 00:02 through paypal, sadly my receipt showed ordered at 24/12/2013. I will have to call them when they return to work. Worst scenario, I have to return them all as microsoft have free return policy.

      No confirmation, but it's safe to assume that it is eligible, because the price hike came at just the time the promo began. If it wasn't eligible, why would they need to hike the price? The reason you would increase the price is to offset some of the cashback. If it's not eligible for cashback, people buying it from them are already paying more than they would be paying elsewhere, so there's no point increasing the price.

        I would've assumed that the cash back scheme is from a marketing campaign/fund. And is completely independent to the costs of the xbox 360s.

        the marketing push is to help sell the xbox 360s through their retail channel, which it is doing now with a frenzied buying spree amonst the ozbargain community.

    Just thinking aloud, not saying this is the case here: MS (or others) could get someone to set up a fake site (and not say anything) and see who buys and tries to claim. They make the profit, clear old stock and don't have to pay out. Then they can post a response to queries saying it's not an official site, blah, blah. There would be plenty of suckers like those who keep going for the fake gift card offers on Facebook. What would MS lose - They never made an official announcement in the first place. If it's a fake site they harvest ID info like the FB gift card scams.
