        • It's a common T&C for all the AMEX cashbacks, but they won't know what you have purchased so it's more than likely to work.

    • Yep just purchased one and it works fine

  • Has anyone tried paying with Paypal and received back the credit? I am trying to use it for Crust Pizza which accepts Paypal online (my Amex card linked to it), but the store itself does not accept Amex, though it is listed on the Shop Small website.
The store I am talking is Crust Pizza Annerley.

No, it won't work. ShopSmall is tied to small merchants accepting American Express, not aggregators who pass money on to small merchants.

        Thanks for the clarification mate.

  • I top up Myki in Melbourne Convenience Store today, they do accept Amex but surcharge $0.50.
Essendon Pharmacy don't have surcharge on Amex.

    • I top up Myki in Melbourne Convenience Store today

      Where is that?

  • In sydney CBD it appears that there is no merchant that do Opal recharge without any fee..i am trying to complete the ten merchants at city convenience stores

    • St James Pharmacy do Opal recharge without any fee. Hope this helps.

      • Thanks I will check them tomorrow @52 Martin pl

    • I was told apparently th commission they receive for selling opal topups is less than the fees they incur for puttimg thru an amex transaction … Thus the surcharge

    Hi OzBargainers,

Due to the less than helpful map provided by AMEX, I took the liberty to create my own map for the locations for the AMEX small shop promo. This map is only for SYDNEY CBD (mainly to do the OPAL top-ups). The main benefit is that you see which places are near your location.

    https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=zUqYqkX9zaQg.kOP3sn…

I compiled the list based on my own research from browsing the AMEX small shop map, from the 2014 list by lokesh7 and from comments in this thread.

I have tried my best to have this map as accurate as possible, but I cannot guarantee that it is perfect or that all places are eligible (many are places from last year's list).

    Disclaimers:
    1. I have not tested every single location - I am simply compiling the list for easy access
    2. I will not have time to constantly update the map. If I do have time, I will update it in bulk when I can.
    3. This map is by no means exhaustive of all the eligible locations either

    • Good work mate

    • Good list. What do the Skull symbols mean? Non AmEx or something you used up already?

      • Amex on the small shop map but the shop declined amex transaction

    • nice job.. helps

    • I found most city Convenience shop is no longer top up opal cards, they can be removed from the map.

    More on Parramatta NSW:
NSW Convenience - 253 Church St, Parramatta. Opal surcharge 0.60 cents
Paparich - 159-175 Church St, Westfield, Parramatta. Dinner/Lunch, min bill is $25 to use Amex card.
Temasek - 71 George St, Parramatta. Dinner/Lunch, min bill is $30 to use Amex card.

    • Thanks! Went to NSW Convenience just today and it was still 60c surcharge only for $20 opal top up.

      • +1

The owner owned 2 shops, one is at 253 Church St Parra, the second shop at 119a Macquarie St Parram both shops charge 0.60 for opal top up. He is a nice guy. Both shops confirmed received Amex rebate of $10 each.

  • For the Melbourne people on OzBargain, you can see the Melbourne list here

This link is also part of the OP on the top.

Anyone have received their $10 rebate properly with their purchases?

04 Nov 15 AMEX SHOP SMALL CR SYDNEY
    CREDIT CARD REFUND
    Ref. #000000000000000 10.00 CR

We got these on our cards, which is confusing coz make many purchases at the same day and don't know which one which. some purchases we did not received an instant email notice as well.

We know some purchases on the same day haven't credited as well but no idea how to track. Last year campaign told you credit for specific store. Just feel like all the effort wasted if not getting the credit…

    • All of mine come up on the statement as the store. Also, I've been receiving the emails.

      Is your Amex bank-issued?

    • Same. I just have to infer where it's come from.

    • +1

Yeah, for my Westpac Amex card it's a bit of pot luck. It usually has some part of the name (or is it just the suburb?) But the Amex Amex ones usually have the same name as the merchant.

  • 2 purchases on Monday, have been processed today by ANZ but still no emails from Amex.. logged in and confirmed i'm registered..
Will wait and see I guess?

    • Im pretty confident Amex did not pick up some of our purchases it has been 5 business days and some few have pick up purchase on same day.

Our card is NAB AMEX so bank issued…

Anyone know the line to contact Amex for these cards? or prehaps for any amex cards

      Thanks

      • I'd also like to know. One listed merchant (from whom I've received credits in past years) got no emails, despite three transactions (on three cards). Getting it off Amex will be easy, getting the credits on the bank issued cards will be harder.

        • Just an update - the rebates have now come through!

I guess because it's a bank-issued AMEX: although eligible, takes a couple of days longer (and no email advice from Amex BTW) but still works out in the end. Very happy with this, so will find some other locals where I can spend and make the most of it.

    • +1

I just contacted them because an email didn't come through. They confirmed the system picked up the transaction and a credit will be issued soon.

"As for the credit confirmation e-mails, we apologise for the random distributions. We are encountering some technical issue at the moment. Depending on how merchant/s process the transactions, the confirmation e-mail will not be distributed correctly. Our merchant services have been working with the technology team to fix the matter.

In the mean time, you may receive a confirmation e-mail randomly but this does not mean that you won’t receive the credit. So, we would be appreciative if you could give it at least 10 business days for the credit to process."

  • Melbourne SEXPO Tickets(outix.com.au)are included for those going this weekend

  • Is there any way to track how many times you've used it other than going back through your statements?

    • Not as far as I can see. Personally I use iXpenseIT iPhone app to track everything so I just track it that way.

    • Using a spreadsheet

For those who shop in the Joondalup area (WA, 6027), all three Wizard Pharmacies at Lakeside Joondalup are registered separately for Shop Small. I've shopped at all 3 and received emails for each one.

  • Really annoyed. Went out to dinner to a place on the list and when I go to pay tell me they don't accept AMEX.

    • Apparently Amex will just give you a credit if you report them.

    • Two of the shops listed in Adelaide are not accepting AMEX any more. It is better to make sure they do accept the card before making the transaction.

  • Anyone know if Arc Computers is a franchise? Only their Parra store is listed on the Shop Small map.

  • Anyone know of a place that does spray tans on the melbourne list for around $25?

  • The Nextra newsagent at Chatswood Westfield also sell gift cards. Myer is one store I noticed. No idea if the surcharge is the as for Opal top ups (5%/$1) or what the minimum value is on these cards.

  • Sorry for noob question, but.. does it work with CBA AMEX? Thanks

    • If you can register it via the Shop Small website, then yes.

      • Thanks.

I found the answer. Sorry to answer my own questions.

  • Sorry if this has been covered before, but can you add a second card, say your wife's card to your own profile.
And you both earn cashback when either one of you uses their card ??

    Thanks

    • +1

Not if they have the same card number. If it's a supplementary card with its own distinct number, then yes, you can both sign up your individual cards respectively, and both get your own separate allotment of cashbacks (10x each), both credited back to the same account.

If it's the same number, you can both use your own cards and get the cashback, but only get one allotment.

  • I went to CITY CONVENIENCE SHOP 2 25 MARKET ST , SYDNEY on 4 Nov
$2 surcharge, no email and until now have not got any refund back yet

I already got refund for some other transactions after that date.

  • -1

Anyone know if you get the bonus for going to the same place multiple times?

    • The bonus is to not get $10 credit.

    • +1

      It's in the OP:

Redeem the offer once per participating merchant, at a maximum of 10 merchants.

Hi OP, can we add donations to charity organisations to your deal as well?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/171354

  • Not sure if posted or not but if anyone uses pennytel they are part of this deal too, I recharged $20 on 7 of my cards thus I will get $140 for $70 cost.

  • Does anyone know of any online businesses that are part of the promo?

    • I don't think it's possible, because they have to put your actual card through a terminal, otherwise it'd be a "card not present" transaction which I don't think is included in this promotion.

      • +2

It worked with pennytel, they are a online voip provider!

        • also worked with freshflowers.com.au

      • I eat my words :-)

Wonder what the actual criteria is then?

        • MERCHANT ID on the AMEX processing end. Obviously.

        • @Turd:

If that's the only criteria, then shouldn't we be seeing a whole lot more online retailers?

        • @zzyss: works with charitable donations.

    • It worked last year at www.dishd.com.au

In case anyone is feeling a little frisky, I inadvertently found out that Pure Platinum at 252 Pitt St is part of the Shop Small campaign. There's a 5% surcharge on all cards so depending on what (or how long) you're buying. You could stand to break even or maybe spend a few extra dollars but also collect rewards points. That being said, at a venue like Pure Platinum cash is still king.

    • Daanish, Pure Platinum is not on shopsmall map. Have u receive confirmation email from Amex regarding your transaction?

      • It didn't show up on my statement as Pure Platinum but as "Pralat Pty Ltd". I assume they use that name for extra discretion. Here's a screenshot of the email. http://imgur.com/oBCf5qo

        • Daanish, thanks for confirmation. Have a pleasant day :)

    • Inadvertently!

      • Well, I was there intentionally. But things got carried away and I just decided to use my card. Next thing you know, there's an email from AmEx. I couldn't help but piss myself laughing when I saw it.

  • Couple of nice surprises… works with Clipp (bar tab app) and Zuver web hosting.

  • Has anyone run into the issue of the website saying a place accepts AMEX, but then the place not actually accepting it when you pay? I think I remember someone saying AMEX would fix you up with a credit if you contact them anyway, but not sure how to get in touch

  • How many amex cards are people allowed to have? I was thinking of applying for the new amex essentials credit card, in addition to my velocity escape and qantas discovery. Comments in that discussion say you can only have 2 amex issued credit cards, is this true? Some comments on this thread lead me to believe that you can have more than two amex cards too.

I'm not talking about additional supplementary cards, as I already have the max amount of those for both cards. Thanks

    • There are OzB members with NINE cards….
I was considering a second one, we'll see what next months deal is. If it works out profitable, I'll consider it. I want a zero fee one again tho

  • I broke my card and ordered a replacement. Will have a new number. Winning!

    • The terminal wasn't accepting the chip on my primary Amex (on my last shop small transaction too) I rang to ask for a credit and they said they will issue a replacement card and that it will have the same pin as my old card. Would that mean the card would be the same number? Can you confirm if you get another 10x $10 promotion?

      • Just got the card yesterday, with a new number. Will try it out and let you know, since I've already hit 9 on my old card. Just have to put 2 through.

        • wife's card expires in nov and she just got a new card, but it's the same card number with a different verifcation pin :(

  • I find it annoying when shop attendants don't tell you the correct price of items. I went to games world and asked for the price of an item with no tag on it. $20 was the answer, so I bought it. Only afterwards I found from the receipt that it was $19.99, so no statement credit for me. If it weren't for the statement credit I wouldn't have bought it, and the store only do store Credits, no refunds.

    • In this case, return the game for store credit.
Then purchase it again, and add the cheapest thing they have to make it over $20.
Same thing happened to me. I asked them to round the $19.99 item up to $20. Computer says no, so I added the cheapest thing they had.

  • Not sure if anyone already mentioned this but if you have the entertainment book you can combine this offer along with your voucher.
For example I used my 25% off voucher for Pancake Parlour and also used my Amex so got the additional $10 credit.

  • Hi,

Does anyone know if you can buy gift cards e.g. buy a gift card for $20 from GYG for future use and pay an effective $10?

    Thanks in advance!

    • Dope,

Someone already asked, it sounds like it may or may not work, will have to try my luck!

  • Can anyone confirm if this would work at stores with multiple locations, e.g. Koko Black in Melb CBD and Koko Black in Carlton?

    • +1

Definitely only works once. Wife bought something from Carlton, got email/credit. Tried Collins street but didn't receive anything.

      • Wife bought something from doncaster koko black FIRST TIME and didn't even get an email…

  • When do they pay us the $10 credits?

    • +1

…. you should have been getting them all along. Generally takes a day or two after the transaction is processed I've found.

      • Thanks, the purchase was only yesterday, perhaps in a day or two.

  • +7

Bye Shop Small, you were fun as always….
