Why is nobody negging this deal? Price rises > 20% or item now out of stock.

      • +4

        Agreed

People should double check they are in fact paying less than they would of the other day.

        • +1

You're assuming we're voting because every item is cheaper. Sure the scum bags like dicksmith up their prices but hey, don't buy from them.

      • +4

Because there are lots of items whose prices have not been increased, and are definitely a bargain.

If eBay had a 20% off everything sale but the prices of 10% of the items have been raised, would you still neg it?

        • +2

Given the number of negative comments I'd expect more negative votes?

        • +3

@bongom: Maybe they realize that there still are many deals to be had. After all, people shop for different things. Just because what they want in particular has gone up doesn't mean nobody else will be able to find a good deal.

        • +1

          @bongom:

I'm negging too, after the three Peters of Kensington items I was going to buy were removed as soon as the promotion started.

        • @ensanguined: Were they removed or did they sell out? Could the VIP buyers have bought most of the stock yesterday?

        • @eug:

          Well-said.

        • +1

          @eug:

Nope, purposefully removed for sure. They are still showing on the Peter's website and when I contacted them they said the products were in-stock. What a joke.

      • +2

Well I'd want the full story before doing so. I got a clothes dryer today from TGG that was the same price it was two weeks ago before I applied the discount, so its not like every things gone up and I certainly benefitted from the deal.

Most stores have frequent sales and as a result price fluctuations as those sales end. One item having a price change "from the other day" isn't enough to make me feel there is some underhanded scheme out there. If the product now cost 20% more on eBay than the same listing on thegoodguys.com.au, perhaps that's another matter. As it stands, the same TV is $2199 on their own storefront (and I assume in store as well) which to me suggests they haven't raised the price in response to an eBay deal, especially if the jump is greater than 20%. Even without sales, wholesale prices can change and when compounded with a sinking AUD, some items may go up.

    • Have seen similar examples on Kogan office chairs.

    • How about the lg. I'm picking up the 10kg one. Our old lg is still going strong and its 13 years old.

Because yes Bing Lee also jacked up their prices!!! :'(

  • +4

Bought a chopping board and a Secrid wallet from Peters of Kensington. :|

  • +3

What these retailers fail to understand is that the average OzBargainer is quite techsavy and that there is a price history of the item sold on their eBay listing so we'll know if the price has been jacked up 1%-20% for this "sale"… Do they really think we're THAT stupid? I just feel insulted when I see an item that's had a (coincidental) price increase in the last 2 days.

In saying that, I purchased the Seagate Backup Plus 2TB form Dick Smith and to my shock (considering their reputation), they didn't increase the price prior to this sale.

    • +4

      the average OzBargainer

There are below-average Ozbargainers or non-Ozbargainers too.

    • +3

One would assume other consumers use ebay other than Ozbargainers..

  • +13

Booooo! Ted's camera's has taken off a lot of their stuff. Was going to pick up an panasonic lens from them, but they've taken nearly everything off their ebay store.

    Poor form Teds!

Ted’s Cameras just remove all the lens items and some popular cameras this morning , shame on it.

    • +2

I wonder why? The money is all the same to them. IE they are not giving the discount, they get paid in full.

      • if the discount money paid by ebay, then I have to say "shame on ebay"!

        • +1

Maybe they just sold out of some items because of the sale?
Shame on supply and demand situation! Lol.

        • +5

All lens was removed on 10:45AM 25.8.2015!! there is no any possibility all lens sold out in 30 mins on all ted store. they are OZ local store and warehouse.

        • +1

          @wangbadan:
          You are right.
Still I wonder why they did. Like I said, they would get paid just the same.

        • @wangbadan: They might have different stock tracking for online sales vs physical stores. Many stores have a disconnect between online and in store inventory, even if they offer services such as in store pickup.

Reminds me of the fiasco with The Good Guys game clearance about 18 - 24 months ago where their online site allowed sales to go through that far exceeded actual retail stock. I assume the opposite can also happen or they deliberately under allocate stock to online sales via eBay.

        • @King Tightarse: not sold, just removed. I have screenshots showing listing ended, 10 items left. Really really lame.

      • yeah and they even hiked up their prices too! maybe it's just temp? here's hoping!

i wanted the canon 10-18mm even though it was price hiked to $424.95! :(((

Teds deserve to go out of business. The Myer of cameras. Stick to digidirect if you want local, the also price match any local price, unlike ted

    • some lenses are coming back!

  • +8

Ted's Cameras are pathetic. They didn't have few Fuji lenses and cameras listed on the eBay store which I was after. I gave them a call this morning asking if they can put those there and was advised they can't because it's against eBay guidelines to put something which they have limited stock of. Ok.

In three hours I am checking back to buy a lens just to find out they removed EVERYTHING Fuji branded except one item. What a pathetic sale.

    • +1

then how they explain about all lens get removed after this promotion began? shame on it

      • Eddie, 26 Aug, 09:05

        what a load of BS!

  • +4

This 20% off sale is the most BS sale ever, all the store jack up their prices or remove listing from their store..NOTHING BUT A SCAM from eBay and it partner, they should again put on that 20% off storewide, so more competition and more choices, to stop store jacking up the prices.

    • +6

I've picked up heaps of stuff from Masters which is:
      - in stock
      - priced the same as their website
      - not jacked up
      - even matches their sale prices

      It is not all BS

      • +3

at least some store are not as dodgy as most.

        • +5

Definitely some are better than others. I have found Good Guys and Masters to be fairly consistent, Kogan and Dick Smith are the usual bad suspects. Most like Target, Bing Lee and Peter's of Kensington seem to do right by customers as well.

        • +3

@leyton01: I mentioned elsewhere in the comments, but the Good Guys actually dropped the price of a camera I was looking at.

        • @verapa:
Yep and they dropped the price of the fridge I was planning on buying so I snapped it up!

Kogan i7 NUC on their website $690, same nuc on Kogan ebay $816.93 WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • I just bought myself a wet dry vac from masters ebay, price was not jacked up as I was watching this product to go on sale before I got it. :)

    • -2

"…all the store jack up their prices or remove listing from their store…"

This is not true. Any more wild(ly inaccurate) accusations you'd like to make?

  • Good guys extended the sale on Moto E 2nd Gen until 31 Aug at $199 and their ebay store kept the $199 price. So 20% off yields $159.20. Low enough to get me to take a bite.
So no price increase for this item when the code started.

Did notice a lot of dick smith stuff came up in my search results but they were all out of stock. More a tech glitch and annoying than price scamming.

  • Thanks picked up couple of cheap waterproof cameras for the kids at Xmas from Goodguys around $75 each after cashback etc

      Shame Ted!!

  • any good microwaves? something powerful which doesnt take ages to warm up the food like my current one does.

  • People have to check there own pricing on the items!

For instance I wanted a fitbit Charge HR with the 20%, DSE has one listed for $169 would have been around $135 but they were conveniently out of stock

But today there own coupon code for $30 off + website price $159 yielded $129 … go figure

Picked up from there website instead

  • I'm happy to say pushys didn't up their prices and I managed to snap up a bargain.

      • They just changed the settings and now it posts to Perth.

  • +2

    Here's my bargain buy.

Yesterday, Peter’s of Kensington dropped the price of many of their higher-end fountain pens on their eBay store. I almost pulled the trigger on a few items I was after. Luckily I saw this OzB post. Waited 24hrs to apply the 20% off deal and many of them have achieved "world's cheapest" status.

    Example:
Visconti Homo Sapiens Large Bronze Fountain Pen Medium Nib = $895.00 RRP
Peter's of Kensington normal discounted price $795.00 (online/in-store)
Peter's of Kensington eBay special discounted price $671.00
Less CTREAT20 code and price is $541.80 delivered (Sydney)

Elsewhere, the cheapest price online for this particular pen is from Fountain Pen Hospital (USA) at USD465 + USD16.99 post (~AUD670.00). Considering the crappiness of the AUD just now, an AUD130 saving on that price is spectacular IMHO.

    • +10

That's a lot of money for some pens.
