    OMG Lol WTF

The 3 words that explain this whole deal

    • +8

I thought three letters would suffice..

    • +6

Those are considered 'words'? Or do you mean the 9 words that come to mind?

      • Technically these are acronyms, and you can say these 9 words or say them as an acronym

        • +2

Technically, only one is an acronym. The other two are initialisms.

        • @wem77:

So I guess LOL is an acronym?

        • @Bearosaurus: Correct, because it's pronounced.

        • @Bearosaurus:
          Yup! You got it.

      • +6

you play it dont you ?… hehehehe

    • +1

      Yeah .. 3 words being

      Gotta Catch'em All

Okay technically that's 4 but who cares right? It's friggen Pokemon!!!

  • +6

I think they need more a kick in the arse than free charging. Nearly ran over an idiot today staring at his phone while crossing the street on red.

    • +87

To be fair, that's not limited to Pokemon Go players…

      • +6

True, happened multiple times before Pokego even existed.

        • +4

Darwinism at work people, move along. :p

        • @Slippery Fish: Preferably after you hit them….

    • +26

Nearly ran over an idiot today staring at his phone while crossing the street on red.

      Did you try again?

      • +20

        gotta catch 'em all!

        • +3

          GOURANGA :)

    • A cattle prod would serve you well here

      • -5

shame we cant have tasers. idiots like these need a shock or two to stop this behaviour before they get run over.

    • +3

Pfft, why go to Virgin at all, real pokefans would carry enough powerbanks to last them all day!

    • +2

      Probably Team Mystic.

    • +39

      dat hybe.

  • +34

Pokemon Go is the new drug out on the streets.

Went out for dinner tonight.. I swear every 2nd person was playing Pokemon Go, even in groups.

Saw someone waiving their mobile right up against the pancake parlours windows to try and catch something. ppl inside must of been thinking wtf..

    • +6

yes, it is an absolute joke… kind of like when facebook first came out..

    • +11

Don't worry this game is like a fat kid who's had too much sugar. Sudden spike in energy, then a major crash. I give the hype and bandwagoners a month

      • Nope. There's already other games out that are a rip off the idea (Korean one). Bound to be many more of these before the entire fad gradually dies off.

      • +3

Part of the reason why it's so popular is because it's very nostalgic for all the 20something year olds that grew up in the 90s.

    • +24

Better for them to Pokemon Go than ice ;)

      • +7

Dunno, ice is pretty entertaining…I saw a junkie attack a car recently for tooting her when she spent 5mins in the middle of a pedestrian crossing leisurely drinking her strawberry milk.

        • is she a granny ? lol…

    • +19

Yeah I saw a 8 yo walk into a strip club to catch a poliwag

    • +3

That's not how Pokemon Go works… there's no need to wave a phone near any windows to "see" anything inside, they just have to be within roughly 20 meters of it's spot regardless if the phone is waving infront of the window, or up their arse, or in their hand.

      Plus, who care?

      • +2

Depends on how close you are to the spot and how wonky your GPS is.

I have a semi-rare pokemon spawn near my place. 90% of the time I just walk 5 doors down and thats it. But the other 10? The GPS is saying I am on the either side of the road, so I try to get as close despite the error, ending up trying to hug someone's front fence.

        • Yes that's right, but the OP of this comment was not implying that, but that the players were trying to look into the window

        • @maik:

          He said waving

Saw someone waiving their mobile right up against the pancake parlours windows to try and catch something.

Besides, we know Pancake parlors got pokespots in/near them from

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/256889

        • @garratt torlesse:

Besides, we know Pancake parlors got pokespots in/near them from

          That explains that then :)

      • +1

Depends if they just happen to be in that spot and didn't know they could turn AR mode off..

People who don't know might care care if they think you're recording or taking photos of them.

    • +2

"Saw someone waiving their mobile right up against the pancake parlours windows to try and catch something"

The game doesn't work like that. As soon as you can see a Pokemon, you can catch it.

    • +7

Weren't they doing that already though?

    • That vote count…

    • +12

look guys - we caught a Grumblebum!

    • +1

Yeah lets not post deals of Alcohol because it encourages drunken prom sex while we're at it

    • +1

EC used "Conservative Soccer's Mom Troll Bait"
      It's super effective Negatively

    • +2

Good post, Virgin should seriously consider moving the charging points from the middle of the road.

    • +3

Lol you so win the most amount of neg votes!

I have 50 year old grown men at work playing pokemon.

Never thought i'd ever see the day that Pokémon is cool. I remember people bagging me when I used t play it at school!!!!

How the world truly does change.

Once again congrats on winning most neg post ive ever seen on OZb

      • +2

I take it you've never seen a JV post?

  • +11

Sweet 1 kWh is about 20 cents so with this deal I should save some serious money! Perhaps even 1 cent?

  • +10

What is the normal price ?

    • +10

About 33 cents per kilowatt-hour (peak)

      • +6

They don't charge you to charge your phone… This isn't a deal or a bargain…

        • +3

Agreed. Stupid deal - pretty much just spam.

        • I guess it's the same with water. But with water it is illegal to charge for tap water not bottled water. Not sure about electricity… say I bought a charger and there's a open socket for you to stick ur charger in.. are there laws on using electricity whilst the shoo is open.

I guess you have to ask for permission. Like even though tap water is free you can't simply walk into their kitchen to help yourself a glass huh.

        • +2

@nobro25: huh? Just because a business has a free power point doesn't mean it is your right to use it.

        • +1

I think this deal is Donald Trump's dream - free unlimited POWER!

        • neg it neg it neg it

        • +1

@nobro25: " say I bought a charger and there's a open socket for you to stick ur charger in.. are there laws on using electricity whilst the shoo is open"
Yes. it is called theft, and charged as such. You'll probably find the owner wouldn't be quite so mean tho, and would merely accidental tread on your phone while moving…

        • +2

          That's why it's submitted as a freebie and not a deal ;)

        • @nobro25: Outside of licensed venue's, do you have any evidence to prove it's illegal to charge for tap water?

        • @Clear:

          It's not a freebie if it's always free… There is no saving…

        • +2

          @jv: Aw crap you're right :(

    • Let's assume you have a large 3,400mAh battery. Typically phone batteries are 3.7v.

3.4 x 3.7 = 12.58wh. Let's assume you make the most of this bargain and use your phone while it's charging, bumping this up to 15wh. Add in efficiency of dropping 5v to your phones internal charging voltage and this becomes around 18wh drawn from the USB port. Let's assume terrible efficiency - the USB power adaptor draws 30wh from the wall.

      30wh @ $0.33/kW = $0.0099, or 0.99 cents.
Rounding included, you've saved a cent.

      • +1

Rounding included, you've saved a cent.

        No, you haven't.

Charging a phone doesn't cost 1c, unless you are at home. And you cannot take advantage of the deal when you are at home.

  • I've already got a few of these :)

  • +2

They should sell power banks like the Xiaomi Slim ones with pouches and short cables…they fit perfectly in the hand behind a phone http://imgur.com/a/RTd4a

  • +3

not a fan of pokemon go, but i don't think ingress copped this much flak?

    • +3

I don't think ingress was this prevalent. (Albeit briefly.)

    • +1

Probably because no one played it :p

      • +6

Uh, yeah they did, & still do. Who do you think were the majority of beta testers for Pokémon GO?

        • +2

          Pokemon Go players.

        • +1

@westical: I guess you could say that, yes… but the recruitment campaign targeting existing Ingress players when recruiting for beta meant there were a lot who play Ingress as well.

        • +6

@westical: Pokemon Go was directly spawned from Ingress, it was the Ingress players who actually made all the landmarks and tested it all out before it became Pokemon Go.

      • +1

        There's DOZENS of them!

        • in each suburb!

      • Enough people play(ed) it to provide the waypoint data for Pokemon Go. Same company.

    • +16

Niantic is a Google startup. They already have access to your emails.

    • +1

Bit paranoid are we EC? Maybe if the had some sort of referral credit?

  • +18

Pokemon and Virgin in the same sentence, seems fitting.

  • +13

In all seriousness, can one of the Everbuying/Geekbuying/Whatever Reps on OzBargain possibly arrange a deal on a decent 16000-20000mAh (preferably QC 2.0) power bank to help combat the battery drainer that is Pokemon Go? Pretty please? :)

    • +4

Need an Australian seller like mushtato. Can't be waiting for a month+ to ship. The Xiaomi Pro (slim) 10000 mAh ones would be great.

    • +2

I agree. Shout out to the reps to arrange a deal

    • +1

Can you choose product from Everbuying and send me the link. I will check with sales department to get best price.

      • If you could do something like the Xiaomi Pro 10000mAh bank with expedited shipping (currently $11.99usd) for ~$40 that'd be great. You'd probably be just about making a loss though.

      • +3

Am I gonna have to beat you on this one? :P
