What Has Been The Best Deal You Have Seen/Scored in OzBargain in The 2018 Year?

As the year 2018 draws to a close, it is time to reflect on and rejoice at our Ozbargain victories. I am keen to hear about the best deal/promotion/offer you saw/scored this year!

I will go first.

For me, the best deals I saw are the $2/$5 Jetstar Jingle deals to Perth and Whitsundays.

The best deals I scored-

Free flight to NZ through Stoneleigh (spent $77 on 6 undrinkable wine bottles but it's still a good deal)

Jetstar return flights to Hawaii from Melbourne for $464 per person – So good!

Now your turn, Ozbargain community!

that cheap soccerball for about $3.

    • +1

I was at the local IGA and bought some salad leaf & deli meat and at the checkout they had a pile of Carlsberg branded promotional soccer balls. Asked what the deal was and she just said how many do I want to take for free. Gave a few to friends as early xmas gifts haha.

Thinking hard about it and I've come to realise I really haven't bought that much from OzBargain deals. Impulse buying cheap junk I don't need is a waste of money and defeats the purpose of saving money.

Though those Amazon deals on bulk food like the Oreos, Wonka Twisties, Skittles and M&Ms were pretty damn good. Can't forget the countless AmEx deals too.

  • +4

the soccer ball and 1kg bag of skittles

Bog roll on clearance at Coles. I got over $200 worth for about $40.

  • +12

    AMEX Shop Small.

    • yup scored $100 cashback with that! Love it!

    • Hear hear!

    7-11 fuel app

    • +8

      Extra freebie: Nox Android Emulator!

      • +1

Even better is the modded APK you can get on here somewhere that removes the root check & the mock location check. Can do it all right from your phone in less time than it takes Nox to boot up.

    • +1

I would agree with this. Learned about it half way through the year, saved heaps on petrol already, and learned how to modify Android apps in the process so I can use Fake GPS easier.

Then I went on to create an automatic fuel locker for myself so if a price ever goes below a threshold it will automatically lock it in if I haven't got a lock saved.

    Monkey Shoulder Whisky $10

  • +1

Several kilos of free M&Ms chocolate bars during Halloween.

  • +4

    PSVR $199 maybe …

Soccer balls, plural. It said limit one per person but I thought - well why not at least try to buy more. So I ordered seven, and got the lot.

    • +33

well, there are 7 of you.

Hasn't been a good ozbargain year for me :(

Best deal was dishwashing tablets and rinse aid. I'm growing old…

  • +1

Good opportunity to reflect. Unfortunately I missed the $3 soccer ball because I was working and I play the damn sport too :(

However here's some I enjoyed this year.

    $8.24 for 1.1KGs of Skittles
    $1.75 buy 3 get 1 free deodorants
    $5 for DOOM / Dishonoured 2
$145 for 1TB Samsung EVO SSD after Cashback
    $225 for a Citizen BL814
$10 for 5L of Isopropyl Alcohol
    $279.20 for the AOC Q3279VWF 1440P monitor

  • Galaxy S8 from DJ's and Kate Spade Wallet from DJ's.

Also ended up with heaps of Burt Bees products.

  • Sony android 4k tv with the eb games code, which I used on Sony website. I think I paid about $1100, was 2017 model and RRP was more than double originally.
Also fortnite Vbux promo for $15 free xbox/ps4 store credit, as a bonus when traded games.
And Xbox one X trade for my old xbox-s and only $200 or $300 on top (and traded to bring that down to even less) .

  • Vodafone tv $72
    Nokia 3 $89

  • +2

This thread has made me reflect on how useful OzB has been for me throughout the year… I think for the time wasted scrolling, overall it's been pretty useless sadly. Value for time/money poor in 2018

    • this site certainly triggers some FOMO (dont wanna miss a cheap sony camera deal) and psychologically it will be good to have a break- because not spending money is also SAVING money! (sorry Gerry)

  • I'd say Xbox One X for 370 ish, or a Sony Bravia for 3700 ish

  • Free game giveways, f1 2015 was pretty cool, missed out on shadow warrior 2… would have kept me busy for a long time trying to reverse engineer it lol.

      Such a professional Neil.

      • The $3 soccer ball everyone is talking about is this:
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/389383

But the Xbox One S, Xbox One X, and the PSVR deals were pretty good.
Not to mention all those new-ish PS4 games at half-price or lower in the last 2 months.
The cheap Skittles and Isopropyl alcohol weren't that great, I don't like the flavour of either so "No Deal".

Though I must commend Telstra, for once, giving a good deal:
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/363865
…but maybe not quite as competitive as the 200GB Optus 4G+ deals from this year (fast and large enough to replace home internet for many).

My vote for the Best OzBargain Deal of 2018 goes to:
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/398348
$48 for pretty good brew, free pickup after $2 spend, each comes with $40 BCF voucher, and $9.60 cash refund for the bottles. Works out to a total of -$1.60 (they pay you!) to drink some pretty good quality pisswater!!!
…and yes, we did actually crash the Coles website ; )

I think my favourites would be:

    • cheap David Jones hampers: I had staff discount and free delivery as well on top; ended up buying like six hampers for myself and my colleagues

    • 10% off Opal top-ups at Woolies: that queue was nuts! And got me another mention in the Sydney Morning Herald; thanks OzBargain!

    • Vogue Fashion Night Out time as you watch all the people in the city buy $50 gift cards with their Amex cards for maximum savings; no longer work in the city (or David Jones; there goes my staff discount), so won't be able to witness this spectacle next year on day one of the offer starting but will see you in the comments ;)

    • Free 5GB data from Telstra for eligible customers: 33% increase in data for me woo!

  • Those cashback deals on pre-paid SIM cards. Some of those deals gave more in cashback than the cost of the SIM.

Am currently using a $20 Boost pre-paid SIM with $20 Cashback which gave me 35GB. Is very similar to this deal.

  • Why nobody is talking about recent Amazon freebie(Sandisk memory card)?

  • +3

The Minecraft Xbox One S 1TB for $179

  • +13

    Free ozbargain membership.

    • +5

Can't believe I missed out, and had to pay full-year membership of $420.69

      • Did you at least get cash rewards?

        • +1

Yeah, but with the surcharge it added $13.37 plus GST (thanks Gerry)

  • +1

The declining prices of ssd hard drives and the refurb dell.

  • +1

There have been some great beer deals.
Looking at what I upvoted, earlier in the year I +1 a 3ds XL at $179 but didn’t buy it. I caved for the $99 one a couple of weeks ago.

  • +1

When ebay plus kicked in and shops were taking advantage of the new policy and I managed to get a few 64gb evo plus SD Cards for like $12

  • -2

Nothing, 2018 has been pretty disappointing.

  • I have found that the biggest "bargains" I find here, measured by percentage off RRP, tend to stay unopened in their boxes until I finally find someone to give it to.

  • Scored A couple of watches with huge reductions for my daughters and wife for xmas… pretty chuffed with my xmas effort

  • +1

6 bottles of Wolf Blass Grey Label for $135 from Dan Murphy's. For some reason they gave me a bottle of Black Label free. Cheers Dan

  • +3

Here are some of my highlights:

  • +1

$25 for God of War is pretty good, especially for GOTY. Not an earth shattering discount, but it is a great and cheap Christmas present for those with the PS4.

Nothing will ever be as good as the Dick Smith closing sale or the BIG W $3 games/accessories and Various consoles heavily reduced a few years back.

  • +10

My biggest wins have been all the deals that have come at the perfect time (organising a wedding can get very expensive, but OzBargaining it can lessen the load + provide heaps of adrenaline):

    • Getting a $900 DJ Gift Card using 18 cards from the Vogue Fashion Nights offer
    • Waiting for a good deal on shirts, belts and shoes from David Jones, in conjunction with increased cashback from Cashrewards, then paying using the previously obtained Gift Card
    • Using Shop Small to make 31 x $20 payments to the florist as a deposit, net cost $310 (plus whatever the balance remaining is)
    • Alcohol (one of the bigger expenses):

    1) Various BoozeBud deals: $50 Credit for $10 from Groupon, Save 10% off 3 cartons of Beer, 14% Cashback from Cashrewards, $25 off $100 spend, and finally stacking with Spend $100, get $30 from AmEx.
    2) Getting WISH $40 eGCs from the Wine, Dine and Shop offer, then using these eGCs in conjunction with Double Cashback Dan Murphy's from Cashrewards. The order was comprised solely of "Member's Offers" (so triple stack, one from DM themselves, one from AmEx and one from CR). Got a healthy $32.50 Cashback from the order I made.

Couldn't be happier with the haul!

  • Not the best deal ever, but given how much I like it and how much I use it, my Nokia 8 for about $380 close(ish) to release stacking % off eBay with discounted eBay vouchers.

  • The xbox x for $379 wasn't a bad deal.

  • +1

$20 NBA league pass via India
Oh and my $250 Seiko turtle

    • how is indian NBA going, do you need a VPN everytime?

The google pixel 2 xl deal with Google home mini for $49 a month ($59 a month less $10 a month port in credit from online chat). Best phone I've had! Great camera, snappy and clean user interface. But annoying headphone single that doesn't work all the time!

  • +2

    Mine's a touch different: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/424356
Different because not necessarily best deal in terms of $ saved, but damn that thing has changed my life. So good having that thing go around the house every few days. Highly recommend!

    • +1

Moto G6 Plus priced matched at Officeworks for $329.65.

May not be the best deal however since I needed a new phone that day and Officeworks had stock for pick up it worked well for me.

  • I can't go past the Amex deals. In November alone I got more than $2k in Amex credits feasting on Shop Small, Flight Centre, Qantas and Red Energy. November is definitely my favourite Amex month.

  • $37 Nike trainers delivered from Amazon a month ago. Really comfortable shoes & haven't seen them that cheap in the shops as they normally retail for about $70

  • Not enough eneloop deals this year.

    • 4 AA or AAA IKEA batteries for $7.99 worked as a replacement for me!

  • I'm voting the Vornado 660. Great price and my room doesn't have air con. It makes the place so much more liveable!

  • Ultraboost ST's for under $100. It took me a while to get used to the cushion but now they are my go to sneaker.

Xiaomi Roborock S50 for $410 (gen2) is a ripper purchase that I also highly recommend!
