All stores have a maximum of 365 days before the codes/links expire. On expiration, you will receive a notification from OzBargain (bell menu) to enter codes/links again.
Ahh I see, is it possible to get an email reminder instead of the bell notification? I don't use the bell notification because I have too many of them for comments.
I think we are pushing towards website notifications more and less on email notifications. Also, we want referrals to benefit those who are active on the site and not those who just come in to update their referral codes.

The OzBargain referral system doesn't currently show Future Broadband as a referral system; essentially, I'd like to be referred to Future Broadband for the benefits at https://futurebroadband.com.au/refer/ for referrer and for me (selfish, I know).

PM'd. They now have a code that assigns the next available unique code out. I think the OzBargain referral system needs an active deal, but not 100% sure

The way it works is simple, they give $1 per friend that registers (using the referral link), then give a further $1 for each of the first 19 surveys the friend completes.

Shopback has changed it's referral structure. All codes marked expired and everyone notified. Some of you may have received 2 notifications (and code removed twice) as the store didn't have an expiry and was set to 365 last night. It was then discovered the structure and codes were different.

In regards to Nuts About Life referral, information is misleading.
There is no $10 credits given to referer and referee. Both instead just get a targeted $10 discount code that can't be combined with another public discount codes (e.g. FREESHIP that gives free shipping on orders over $100).

On the referrals page, it just doesn't allow the expand/collapse of the arrows. All expanded ones can't be collapsed, and all collapsed can't be expandeed.
It appears to be a browser issue, as it works fine in Edge, but not in Chrome Version 86.0.4240.42 (Official Build) beta (64-bit) I don't have any extensions on Chrome.

I received a notification saying my referral code for "Beem It" has expired. I went to put it back (the field is now empty), but when I add my code and click Save it gives "Error: This referral code is already in the system".
Not that I think Beem It is running a referral program right now, so it's probably sub-zero in terms of priority, but maybe something to look into in case it's a problem in other areas? (E.g. is a condition of expiry that the code must be different each time, and is that always the case?)
I can confirm that there is a user with the same code as you. Whether they entered it wrong or some other reason, is not known. I've checked Beem It and they don't have a referral program active so I've disabled it from now.

@Stingo: Referral notifications are via the website & app only. I think most notifications, e.g. when something reaches front page, category notifications etc are available by either the site & app and/or email. Off the top of my head I think it's just referrals & when you are tagged that doesn't have email notifications. Notifications is a long term project.
As for referrals, on one hand, we want to prioritise active members in the OzBargain referral settings and maybe don't want people just logging in to just stick their referrals in and then never see them again until they expire. But perhaps getting people back to the site with a reminder email encourages participation. We'll discuss.
@neil: Participation in OzBargain is its own reward. Sometimes an actual financial one. Personally, 'i find it a bit of a nuisance to have to clear notifications as I've already received them via e-mail. In the past I've paid them little attention. So little that I've missed previous referral expiry notifications.
BTW, it would be great if deal subscriptions could be applied to sub-categories,

Yes, they work like sub-categories. Now that you mention it, subscribing to the other article tags is a great idea too. I don't know if "related product" is a tag too but I would like to be notified of new deals on a specific product sometime. I can think of more elaborate notification criteria but it probably would be unreasonable to get deal posters to post product specs in a fixed format not to mention the implementation difficulty of notification on complex criteria.

Doesn't seem like too much of an intrusion if you're already signed up for notifications. The parameter from everyone elses code is 8 characters long. Yours seems to be 7. I've now set it to accept either 7 or 8 characters.
Could we please convert the referral formatting so that it is via private messaging? This is so new referred customers can recontact their referrers if they need to chase up Reamped, and also to ensure before proceeding that the referral credit will be connected to an active account.

Just tried signing up to Placie via the referral links but all of them give me the following error “ Sorry, the referral key is invalid or expired.

Why do referral codes expire? And in 86 days? Where do these arbitrary things come from? We donate time and effort to post deals and get a few paltry referrals but you really do make it hard to want to bother.
By default all stores expire after 365 days to keep codes fresh and to also alert us to any changes within the system.
Without knowing what store you referring to, often a short expiry of 90 days is typical of stores that change their referral links/codes often leading to broken referrals. I only see 2 store referrals in your account, one for which the store is set to 6 months and the other 1 year. Monthly paid stores like ISPs, Health Insurance where people switch over are generally set for 6 months.
Even at 6 months for an ISP - why is that? The referral code is set to a customer for the life of their continuous engagement with the ISP - should it not be up to the member to determine if any when these codes need to be changed?

From my experience of probably going through close to 1000 audits on stores, we end up with stores where the referrals are broken. So people looking to sign up will struggle to find a working code/link. It would be great when referrers move over to another ISP, Health Insurance, Mobile Plans that they think to remove their referral from the system but that just doesn't happen. We end up with deads links or worse the links or codes work but the referee doesn't get the credit.
In any case, I'm not quite sure why it is such an imposition to add your code back in once every 6 months. A notification is sent to your notifications button on OzBargain or you can get a notification email.

Why is the sleeping duck referral via PM rather than via link?

I checked recently and my SleepingDuck referral code has been clicked over 200 times, but I’ve never got any rewards from SD. It appears the min spend is $11 even though I’ve seen Send advertise it as $10, which makes me think the min spend is $10 plus GST. Just to confirm, it mentions a $30 rebate for the referrer. I assume that is a cash payment sent to your bank account, is that correct?
That referral structure is problematic for OzBargain. We could change the referral system to PM only but ultimately there is no guarantee or motivation that the person who used your referral code would provide their order number to you 3 or 4 months later so you can also claim your $30.
@hamza23: thats right it should be a $30 rebate to your bank - i had 3 referrals and chased them up and they wouldn't pay out as I didn't have any order numbers from people I purchased from.
The best bet is that someone PM's for referral - then replies with an order number after - then down to you to follow up after 100days

Amber Electric has started doing referral links as well, example here (actual referral code replaced by CODEGOESHERE) as well. I'm already a user, very good rates especially if you're willing to be a little flexible on when you use electricity to avoid major spikes. Hey mods, the referral link format for Zenni Optical has changed, & therefore I can't input my referral link - I get an error saying invalid format. I think the issue is they used to issue bit.ly links, but now use goo.gl shortened URLs instead…
If I go to their Refer a Friend page, and enter details I'm shown a bit.ly link. Where are you getting a goo.gl link from?

When referrals expire from the system, can you leave the referral info maybe in the notification or something so we don't have to log back into every site to get the info again? Annoying when a lot of them expire at once
This is intentional. By default, we set referrals to expire after 1 year (less for some stores) as referral codes sometimes change. We don't want people copying and pasting but rather double checking that your code is still valid.
It also gets people to check that a retailer's referral system is still active and if any changes to benefits have been made.

Actually I don't know and maybe nothing at the moment.
As More is just another brand of Tangerine, they just copied everything including giving a referral code in the sign up email but there is no info on a referral program.
Will put this on hold for now until they release one.
