OzBargain Hits 500,000 Total Deals - What Was Your Best Find?

Feeling a bit sentimental about the growth of this site that’s become a daily part of my life over the last few years. Some of my favourite forums to read have been about the best deals that other users have landed and I’d love to see an up-to-date one as we hit this milestone.

I have a few questions; what was the most memorable deal you were able to get through OzBargain (bonus points for the URL)? Have you seen a deal so good that you kept it to yourself and not posted it? If so, what was it? Confession time.

  • But, on a more serious note, some of my recent wins are:-

My Pixel 7a, just after release, launched at $750 was just $453 with everything stacked (cashbacks, vouchers, clickfrenzy)

Then the Denon x1800h receiver, which retails for around $920 was gotten for just over $540 after cashback

The $2 Hungry Jack's Whopper coupons back in 2011 was a pretty good one. I ate so many whoppers.
I remember printing out sheets of coupons and cutting them up.

  • Basically trading a $1 News Ltd subscription for a $40 Rebel Sport gift card back in 2014. There's probably been "better" deals I've got over the years, but that will always stand out for me.

Free $40 Gift Card for Rebel Sport with $1 Subscription to Herald Sun (& News Ltd Newspapers)

Tom the Webber bbq guys deal! it was a journey but most of us got cheap Webbers in the end. Was back in 2014 can't find the exact deal. Basically eBay had a sale on BBQs, Tom, from Perth created an eBay business and drop shipped 100s of BBQs to ozbargain people from appliances.com we saved about 30% off RRP in the end, tom made some money but also got banned from eBay for life! Still have my Webber and it is going strong.

This deal, getting 2 $1300 Park Tool Bike Repair kits for free after they cancelled and refunded the order but still shipped it out.

    • Who saltily downvoted?

Getting that EGO mower for $389 was an instant win. Still going strong 8 years later!

Probably the Dick Smith games clearance from 2011, or the $250 The Iconic Voucher for signing up to ING Bank. Definitely my two favourite deals.

  • Business class Etihad to Europe <$150 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/727627

    • According to the comments everyone's ticket got cancelled.

    • Were you able to fly?

50% off BBQs in BBQ Category on eBay

OMG this one will stay with me forever, I had lump charcoal supply to last me for years and a BBQ/fireplace I'm still using till this day!

And the comments about dropshipping Weber Q was very entertaining, everyone helping each out trying to get a good deal.

YES! This is the deal I was trying to find above. The comments in this deal and poor Tom banned from eBay for life!

    • Is this the infamous Broden deal?

      • +1

Pretty sure that was the infamous Dick Smith closing down sale shamozzle. Someone posted a mega reduced price on some console, like ps3 or w.e being reduced to $99.
Broden said "Thanks, got 20" and then raked over the coals haha. 😁

        • Hmmmm i thought it was BBQ related…

In the comments of this deal, I snagged $2000 outdoor setting for $20 through Coles Best Buy Exclusives.

Clearly a price error but they honoured it.

    This was the item;

Unsure who's paying 2k for this though.

Best deal was the Weber Smoky Mountain smokers for 25% off in the US on Amazon back when our dollar was 20% up over the USD. I dropshipped so many of those on Ebay AU that Weber Australia complained and Amazon stopped shipping them here.. :)

4x Seagate Ironwolf 12TB HDDs for $189.47 each (currently $425 each on Amazon).

100,000 Complimentary Economy Class Return Tickets for Frontline Health Care Professionals @ Qatar Airways

Was away for almost 4 weeks just as the borders reopened and cities in Europe we visited weren’t super busy with tourists yet.

  • I couldn't find the deal's link but my most memorable bargain was from 2010 when Catch was still cotd and it was a Lynx deodorant pack for less than $20, maybe $14.99…? Still have the cotd order confirmation email in my inbox lol

It wasn't long after me landing a warehouse supervisor job in a small Aussie company and back then being a Chinese overseas student I was eager to blend in…so bought the pack for all the storemen as Christmas gift and it worked very well.

Subtle way to tell your coworkers they smell feral. Nice.

It was back in late 2020, and COVID had Australia in lockdown. I posted the below gem which I think is the highest ever upvoted non-joke deal that no one actually purchased:

1 Year Accommodation in an Over-Water Bungalow for $41,334 @ Anantara Veli Maldives

    Alienware 38" Curved Gaming Monitor - AW3821DW $249.01 Delivered @ Dell
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/725021

  • Probably pricing error on 6 packs of beer, or a pricing error on Beats headphones.

These really stand out over the my other “more legitimate” deals/purchases, purely because they’re genuinely too good to be true. Right place right time.

  • For sure the 7 11 chopper trick and Dell free credit.

    • I forgot about the 7/11 APKs.

I made one custom version which automatically looked up the cheapest price and from that it set the coordinates for me. Worked for all fuel types too. That was fun!

Had I known they'd change the app permanently I would've released that one as a parting gift.

There has been so many great bargains over the years, but a few that have stuck in my mind over the last 4860 days since joining OzBargain are

    • Mystery flight and accommodation after buying 6 bottles of wine. I spent an afternoon driving around to find eligible bottles and managed to get flights and 2 nights accommodation for 2 for a $30 per person booking fee for a lovely weekend getaway.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/85335

    • A recent one was the ikea VADHOLMA Kitchen Island heavily discounted to $157.50 from their alleged RRP $429. The real RRP is $879. I have been eyeing this island off for many years and could never justify the cost, but for that price, I don't think I have entered credit card details so fast to a website before.

    • Finally, I remember ordering a free wooden spatula giveaway from Fire and Rescue NSW. It took about 6 months to arrive, and when it did, I opened it up thinking WFT is this? Then I remembered, that's right, I got that from that OzBargain website. It sat dormant for a few years until I decided to us it as my companion travel spatula.

I can't find the original OzBargain link, so here is a photo of me and Spatrick waiting for a train in Uzbekistan.

Looking forward to posting more epic finds when OzBargains reached 1,000,000 deals.

    Spotify Premium Competition

It didn't require a purchase and the success rate was damn high! The prize was a voucher for 3 months of Spotify Premium. I smashed it and ended up with 18 months on one account and 12 months on my partner's.

It was the "deal" that got me to sign up to OzBargain, not sure how I even came across it. I was obviously a n00b and didn't even upvote the comp.

Free dinners via Delivery Hero for a month or two way back when.

  • Tesla Model 3 LR discounted few times.

  • During the dicksmith fire sale i picked up a cannon 700d for $50 after the $100 cashback took effect(it was marked as $250 but they further marked down the dispaly model so no packaging). A decade later people still.want more then that on market place.

    • I don’t remember how much exactly, but the 7D I picked up was equally crazy priced. Took some sweet shots with it, until I sold it for a good profit.

      • Yeah. I saw the massive savings but im not a huge photographer so figured id let someone else have the win there.
I was first in to my local.and saw the cameras avaiable. Heaps of nikon gear as well. Was tempted to buy and flip for a profit but its not my thing.

During Covid, those $1.95 40GB simcards from Kogan, I'd buy enough to use as my home internet, then each different phone number was used to signup new accounts with Ubereats, Menulog etc taking advantage of their new user deals. Usually $15 - $20 off first orders.

  • $200 moto g82, been using for close to three years now

  • This from 2016:
    LIFX Original E27 Gunmetal Grey Only - USD $29.99 (~AU $42) + $7.95 Shipping)

I’ve got over 40 Lifx products in the house now, but only 2 of these original ones remain and they are still going strong in the shed.

I was dubious of a light bulb with an IP address, but at that price I took a punt for curiosity sake. It’s the most memorable because it unlocked a quest to never touch a light switch again, to never have to fumble for keys to get into the house, and various other bits of automation, all without requiring any cloud services.

Etihad flight deal from Melbourne to Azerbaijan (many Ozbargainers booked this and then either got cancelled or requested cancellation, I held on). Went to Egypt using these tickets and for return flight I only paid 1100$ for 4 people full serviced airline (Etihad). Fantastic holidays and thanks to this deal probably saved close to 5,000$.

not so much a best find but the Macpac jacket (you know the one) - can recognise a fellow bargainer on the street

  • Europe return for $614 was a good one

Also flights and a hotel for a few bottles of wine

  • Ah man brings back great memories. Not sure if the best deal, but definitely a memorable one for me for some reason. Dells $9 printer. Ended up getting an upgraded model for some reason

This was perfect for me, wanted the lounge suite, didn't want to pay $2k, bunnings honored the price error at $600 :D

  • The great virgin international flight price error of 2017.

I booked 4 return tickets to bris<—> chennai for $1060 (total)
4 return tickets for flights bris<—>beijing for $996 (total)

There were many other flights/destinations availbe

  • Merged from Some of the Best Past Deals

Just thinking back to some of the best deals I've got from here and actually needed or benefited from and purchased a shitload.

The Sydney Tools Sidchrome deal from a few years ago.
I think it was like $20 a tray instead of $100+

The MILO Deal at the reject shop. Initially was here, when I went in, they had it for $2 a tin.

The PAIN AWAY deal was $2, I purchased a truckload.

  • Amex qantas ultimate and the referral, I think I got 2 from here and few more from referring friends.
Easily 200k+ points without hardly any effort.
But the memories from the trip, on top of that, visiting places I thought I would never go.
