Top Deals, Comments, Forum Posts, Members of The Month and Other Stats for March 2015

So I missed doing the February version of this thanks to TA's posting of cheap Air NZ flights to the US. It's interesting to see some of the emerging trends in the US. Lots of positive trends but the biggest negative trend I saw was the use of selfie sticks…everywhere. So I'm happy to see the most negative voted deal in March was for a selfie stick.

November-January are generally the most busiest months on OzBargain with February to April being the slowest. That is reflected in this month's stats. Despite having more competitions posted this month, there is a 19% drop in people looking at the competitions section. Are people burnt out with entering comps? Not sure.

However quality over quantity, with 3 4 OzBargainers winning a $3600 prize to see a Troye Sivan concert/meet & greet, hotel, flights, meals. Epic win.

4 of them Won the Troye Sivan Prize actually, great work. I wonder if they discussed how many eneloops they own over a dinner

    • +1

      Cheers. Have fixed that up.

Yes, would have loved to be a fly on the wall.

    • +1

I think they were still all sitting there uploading pictures of cans :P There's going to be a support group to ween them off it!

Actually, we all had lunch together. Made a few jokes about my Ice Watch with Greenspoon (top guy!).

      Was a really amazing time.

Also for the record, I have an Eneloop free household.

  • Great stats! Any bargains in US apart from selfiesticks?

    • No, unfortunately the dollar was around $.80 so didn't do much shopping.

  • +4

So last year TA won he used to post the most number of deals, this year it's because he doesn't fit that, so it's now for getting the most number of deals to the front page. Sure.

    • Quality over quantity I guess. 61 deals for 88.13 vote average VS 123 deals for 25.20 vote average.

We want to encourage those who contribute positively to the OzBargain community

I reckon it should be one prize every 3 months per member to encourage other members to contribute further and share the love. When members know that X and Y person are more likely to win a prize, it may discourage some.

        It could be

        • The person that contributed the most freebies
        • The person who contributed the most helpful comments
        • The power user who edited the most deals
        • The person who posted the most helpful forum topic (as per comment count)

        etc

There is different ways to contribute to the ozbargain community other than most deals posted or most deals on front page.

        • +3

Couldn't have put it better even if I tried.

        • +1

          Some good suggestions, thanks.

        • It could be

+1 there should be at least one random award, such as those you suggested, that changes each month :)

        • @tonester:

I just think to be fair to all contributors to the site, that awards should be capped as i suggested above: 1 per 3 months or so to a max of 3 or 4 per year

        • @easternculture: I agree else it's so predictable to people who have been around for a while. Most comments now are for the stats anyway, which is well done.

  • +5

    Cool stats, very interesting :)

  • Always very educational. Great range of different activity reported. Amazing to see votes vs click-through.

  • Good work winners

  • Gratz winners and thanks to all deal posters.

  • Top 10 negatively voted comments.. JV dominated that part.

    lol

Dick Smith may be #1 popular store, however it isn't for honouring deals, nor for having ethical pricing policies (especially when they jack up their prices and then offer 20% off). There should be a category for most 'not honoured' deals, and for most useless post that somehow receives the most positive votes.. probably due their cult following.

  • Are we getting one of these for April 2015 neil

    • +1

Yes, almost finished… Just have 4 more stats to pull and the summary to write up. Should be up tomorrow.

      • thanks neil. Appreciate all that hard work you put in these reports, especially keeping you up this late
