That's completely incorrect, and these are indeed serving the same purpose, in the same way.

    • I've already got 2 monitors hooked up to the onboard graphics ports on my mid-spec office PC, could this be used to run a 3rd monitor so I can spread docs over 3 screens?

      • It will be fine if all you want to do is office work.

      • I am using a lenovo usb-c to displayport + usb-a hub. I have connected one monitor with displayport and one to usb-a using this device over hdmi, and then the internal laptop display.

        • Would this work on a TV by any chance? I have a LG TV with broken HDMI ports so cant plug in media devices (e.g. Chromecast).
However the USB port works fine. I am wondering if this device would allow media devices to be plugged in my TV.

I am assuming it does not support audio, in that case can I use this device to at least connect my PC to TV and use it monitor via TV's USB port?

          • @greentoad: This adapter uses DisplayLink and requires driver installation, so it only works with a pc (usb) to monitor/tv (hdmi). It doesn't work with hdmi to usb.

    • No stock in SA around me

    • What is this actually for?
      Is this an upscaler?
Judging from the description where it says:

Quickly and easily display in Ultra HD from your laptop to a 4K monitor, TV or projector without the need for a 4K graphics card

I would assume this thing upscales low res content (720p/ 1080p signals) to 4k.
Otherwise even $16 it's kind of frivolous, since you can already output 4K signals to a monitor/ TV with a normal HDMI cable even with low tier hardware. That is you can already watch 4K netflix for example on a monitor/ TV from your low tier laptop using a standard HDMI cable.

Feel free to correct and inform me if I'm wrong in any way

      • 4k is not the sell here imho. I had a monitor connected to hdmi port of laptop and needed a way to connect a 2nd monitor and this would do it via USB-A. I also have a surface pro which only has mini display, so i can use it there. Depends on use case. Great value and use for me.

      • Yes, you (kkkkkat) have misunderstood what the product is. It basically converts a USB 3.0 (or 2.0) port on your computer/laptop into a HDMI port to connect to another monitor up to 4K at 30Hz

        • Ok, thanks for clarifying.

      • +2

        What is this actually for?

It is actually for taking a USB signal and producing a HDMI signal.

        Is this an upscaler?

        No.

I would assume this thing upscales low res content (720p/ 1080p signals) to 4k.

        You would assume incorrectly.

Otherwise even $16 it's kind of frivolous, since you can already output 4K signals to a monitor/ TV with a normal HDMI cable even with low tier hardware.

What happens when that one HDMI port is already in use and you want to add a secondary or tertiary display?

Feel free to correct and inform me if I'm wrong in any way

Thank you for granting us such generous rights to comment.

      • Multiple monitors when you don't have enough outputs off motherboard or GPU.

    • +1

Great deal. Had trouble connecting my usb c - hdmi adapter with my usb-c port. The port has the 'SS' symbol not the 'D'. Hopefully this hub works which would save me returning a new laptop.

    • need this one

    • Will this run Cyberpunk 2077?

      • I did a test at displayhz.com with my 100Hz monitor at FHD and it was showing a 100Hz on the test but was giving a VSYNC error. So I am not sure how it will work for gaming. The comments are mixed (and some just speculative).

    • None in QLD and i wanted one or 2 :(

    • +1

Since everyone is wondering, this is actually as external GPU for adding another video output to a computer which may not have the amount or type of video outputs you need.

      • Can run up to 7 on windows I believe.

    • +1

Shows up as $31.24 at my local.

    • I'm thinking about getting one, but I just can't think of a scenario where I would actually use this device.

    • I've bought these before and work great for anyone who can't get stock at officeworks but listing looks like only 2k

      • Would this work on a TV by any chance? I have a LG TV with broken HDMI ports so cant plug in media devices (e.g. Chromecast).
However the USB port works fine. I am wondering if this device would allow media devices to be plugged in my TV.

I see it does not support audio, in that case can I use this device to at least connect my PC to TV and use it as monitor via TV's USB port?

    • Went to pick it up and they told me they still need to find it because it's a customer returned product. Used condition - think I can ask for a further discount?

      • YUP

        • +2

Turned out to be new condition but scanned as $23 in store. Make sure you don't pay online and do it instore!

    • Just to share. Regular office work seems fine and playing HD video at 30fps is fine too. But trying to play 1440p@60 on a video with lot of movement tends to be too much for this and it disconnects-reconnects. 1080p@60 seemed ok.

    • Does anyone know if this would support extension mode for Mac?

I have a MacBook Pro 13 with 2x external monitors at the moment (both QHD 2560x1440) connected via 2x USB C ports

Was hoping to use this adapter to add a 3rd QHD monitor in extension mode. Anyone know if this would work? Thanks!

      • +2

Should do. They're using the displaylink driver.

        https://www.displaylink.com/downloads

        • O wow. Thanks to you found out there are drivers for Android too. So I can connect a USB-OTG connector and output my phone to TV/Monitor!!

      • +2

Yes, but you need to install and run the displaylink app before MacOS recognise the display.

@ESEMCE: Note taken … We did have more than 10 originally at a good price, but had the 6 left over and had to clear them out so reduced the price further and reposted …

    • +4

Cheers there are some sour people on here. OP is kind enough to post a killer deal and six members of ozbargain are quick enough to snap it up. Sucks for the rest but good on them for posting it in the first place.

      • My issue is if your going to have an amazing deal, set up it up correctly so to don’t oversell and take extra payments from people of close to $4000.

        • it would seem to be way more than $4000… there's another $1000 from ozbbcuk below and myself…

        • We did have it on previously at a still good price , yes was set up properly , this was the remainder to clear out at a walk out price …
We haven't oversold as i made it quite clear at the start …
The numbers i put out who missed out, were exactly that, which were showing in our system …
The ones on back-order where the funds were held/taken have been reversed as i stated …

          • @sogster10: How long does it take to reverse the funds back? I have been charged but no reversal has come through yet?

    • Interesting most (all) items on BW website are showing as out of stock.

      • Was quite clear 6 to go and they did …

    • OP says 8 extra people (3 People in SYDNEY & 5 People in DANDENONG) missed out but I am not so sure.

I placed a click and collect order via Brisbane store and have not received any confirmation but money has been taken via credit card…

      • Me too

        • Given that there were two of you that this happened to and there was only one at Brisbane, I would say that at least one of you missed out, if not both. :(

      • As stated the orders which made it through but we had no stock, clearly showed details, names etc and the funds connected to those references were reversed … No confirmation but took your money ??

        • definitely no emails from Blackwoods… but my web order no. was 02739322 if you want to check for me. I would be glad to be wrong and actually get it though…haha

    • Geez. How did it need Ozbargain and 2741 click through's to sell 6 absolute bargain priced power tool sets. Wouldn't they shift in a week if they were at the door with a price sign?

      • Agree … Yes they would but wanted cleared today …

        • Anything else you marked down today?

    • +1

my order just showed up as "on hold" on my account but clicking through shows it's on backorder even though dispatch date is showing as 22/12/2020…

still no emails and no acknowledgement from OP that anyone that ordered from their Brisbane store will be getting the kit or full refunds as he/she repeatedly said only "8 people in sydney and dandenong" missed out after 2904 clicks…

    • Dam amazing deal, missed it blahh

      • Incredible price.

The original post ">>> ONLY 6 KITS TO CLEAR @ $499 inc GST @ Blackwoods … FIRST IN BEST DRESSED … NO BACKORDERS …" was pretty clear that it was limited stock right? I'm presuming that's why the neg?

    • I still dont have refund for this item and it is 2 weeks later.. have sent them various follow up emails. Anyone else in the same position?

  • Merged from [VIC] Mistral Smart Wi-Fi Adaptor $4.95 Instore @ Australia Post Ringwood
    Go to Deal

Hi all, I bought this smart wifi adaptor from Auspost outlet. They are on clearence right now. First call them and make sure it's available in your local store. I bought it from Ringwood Auspost store at Eastland shopping centre, VIC.

    • Need to put store name in title
Good value if you can find stock in your local store though

      • Done. Thanks.

    • Thanks for the post, did Eastland have any stock left?

      • I got the display unit. But sales person told me if I need more than one unit she can check the stock. Call them and verify before you go there.

        • How do you call your local store ? Australia Post has no mechanism to call Post Offices.. just the call centre ?

          • @jason andrade: If they call you to talk about your parcel, save the number 😛 That's what I've done

    • +4

Smart plug is compatible with Tuya Smart Life. I’ve got 2 from the clearance about a year ago maybe. Plug is pretty wide compared to other models around.

    • +1

I got one with my google home once and it died after a weeks use.
However my brilliant smart ones I got for $9.95 have lasted over a year now

      • +3

Hyperbole and nothing more sadly. They're made in the same factory by the same company.

        • Luck of the draw then

          • +1

@Owgasm: It really is. 3 of 4 Kogan smart plugs I had died. 1 of 7 Mirabella lights died. All the rest is fine.

      • I'm in the same boat. Mine died after a week or so of use.

    • I got 2. Bit tricky to install through to Google Assistant (Home), more on the first bit using the Smart Home app. Seems to be fine, installed a week now.

      • +1

I got 2 as well. Got no problem setting it up and linking it to Google Home. But I got another problem. The plug randomly turns off and turns back on while in use :/

        • +1

Mine did the same thing. Quite unreliable..

          • @waygen: Try using it with Smart Life. I have 2 for 6 months now and both have been reliable.

            • @trex: I used it with Smart Life app since the start ..

              • @Scythic: Ok. It's a very strange problem if both plugs randomly turns off and on. I've never experienced anything like that.

            • @trex: all the apps (afaik) - smart life, smart home, kogan etc - use the same back end - the app just gets reskinned.

              • @walaj: Not really. I used Brilliant Smart’s app which I thought was re-skinned Tuya but there was a 3rd party PIR sensor that would not work in Brilliant’s app. At first I thought the sensor was faulty but on a gut feel, I tried it with Smart Life and it worked! I switched over from Brilliant to Smart Life. There’s some differences behind it.

                • @trex: OK - I'll reword - all the apps talk to the same back end - but I guess some suppliers add extra functions or support devices that others don't.

in theory, Tuya Smart should support all devices….

Cheap Chinese crap is unreliable. Hoodathunk.

      • Can you set a timer for it to turn on at a specific time?

        • Yes, by using Google routine or IFTTT

    • This is why the new cost model of IFTTT annoys me so much.

I don't want to provide Google or Amazon with even more data on me and my habits.

So your options end up being either predator or pricey.

      • We know predator wins :)

      • They already have good amount of your data + habits mate through browsing if you use google or searches in Amazon.
Evenif you use firefox but use google/bing for search still fair amount of data, if you don't use any search engine at all and disabled all sort and types of browser cookies then good on you!
Hard to win this game as i tried for long and gave up at the end unless you move to Alaska with few huskies :)

    • I have this feeling its very difficult to call your local post office on the phone? I remember finding it very hard to find an individual Post Offices' number listed anywhere. YMMV.

    • Nice, good value I suppose. Recently I bought the cygnett one, $15. discounted from $35. Very good one though.

      • I have 3 of this one for more than a year , bought it on sale for 10$ and works perfectly fine.
Have other Tuya stuff so adding to the rest of devices and google home was pretty easy

    • I tried to find this model on eBay, Amazon, Kogan, Catch but no one seems to sell them except for AusPost I wonder why.
Bought two to test them out last year and they worked fine, wanted to buy more but just can't seem to find them.

    • Can you set a timer for it to turn on at a specific time?

      • Did you look at the photo?

    • Can't look up if this supports HomeKit because all google results just lead to OZB. If this product barely exists online then it probably doesn't support HomeKit.

Just spotted at a Bunnings Marion in SA. No listing I could find on their website for this item, but was told by staff that this deal should be company wide. The lady I spoke with also mentioned this deal ends today, but unsure if that is accurate.

Matches Amazon Black Friday price on these, although not historic low of $122, it is close, and a lot cheaper than any other online or local stock.

    • No stock near me in Sydney - apparently this item is suspended?

      • There was stock at villawood couple hours ago, I doubt it would be gone. Try them tomorrow

    • What else we need with these to work with tv ?

    • One stranded game case left

    • Bought this last time it was on sale… grew tired of it very quickly :(

    • Lol, you can see the date period on the bottom of the ticket - and that the ticket should have been removed a week ago. Although, the sale price might have been extended.

      • Yes good spotting. The sale price ended on New Years Eve. Was obviously part of the Christmas and Boxing Day sale.

It's definitely showing as $79 online. There is no $17 price. Some one at the Carnes Hill store forgot to remove the expired sale ticket.

      • +1

3070 is comparable to 2080 Ti. It's the 3060 Ti that's slightly faster than 2080 Super.

    • Trying to get a 3080 is such a pain. The only ones I've found in stock are way overpriced and the website doesn't have good reviews. I should have pulled my finger out and gone for a 3080 fe at launch

      • +6

You are saying it like you could get one at launch lol

        • Yeah I didn't even try to but odds are I'd be in the same place at the moment.
I found 2 available now (apparently) but their prices are $250+ higher than the already bloated prices. They're basically scalpers prices with a store front

          • @NuttyGoodness: Which one are you aiming for? And what price point would be the sweet spot for you? I am trying to find a MSI Trio at $1500 but that has been a pain with most supply % at 50% and only up to mid September, so, might even be quarter 2.

Apple fans: "aPpLe ReTaiNs vALuE bEtTeR"

        • Apple stuff does retain its value better in general. But in this case you couldn't get any lower in price, so it's like buying a $1000 car. You can drive the car for a whole year and still sell it for $1000 because you basically can't get any cheaper. That's a tip if you need a cheap car for the medium term and don't want to pay rental fees haha

          • @rhino015: Yes Apple stuff does retain value better but an $8000+ monitor depreciates, while this monitor is likely to appreciate (gain value) 😂

This may be one of the only times I've ever said a piece of technology will appreciate in value (at least short term) lol

      • +2

You're right :( Just got off the phone with them and the lady was nice enough to check other stores and said it's showing up as clearance and no stock in any Sydney. She said I'm the 10th person to call lol

    • +8

Shes' a keeper, misses too :)

      • A keeper for finding a bargain for you or everything else. that's the important question

      • I'd be dreaming if my missus encouraged spending

    • Damn that's a huge steal

    • waaaaaaaaa … great price! … very good monitor! currently used by my wife for work and me for games.

    • Anyone know the Kmart PN for this?

    • +9

Vic: called kmart chadstone, they said 1 unit at Keysborough, called Keysborough they said no stock. looks like Vic is empty

      • Never seems to be clearance stock of anything in Vic

    • Kmart didn't stock this item for very long. I wonder what happened. Kmart decided there wasn't enough profit and was too bulky?.

      • same with their Nintendo switch, already cleared out. Kmart does offer good prices but I don’t think these low margin electronics are suited for them

        • They were only part of the black friday specials

      • Panmi gave them a good deal for a Black Friday special in limited numbers.

      • I am not sure why they always have very few stock for most of the popular stuff.

Like the $49 sun lounge, I am just lucky saw them just unloaded stock otherwise no way I can get one.

    • +1

bummer, I just paid $499 + $14 at PCBype for this

      • +1

At least you were able to find stock.

    • +1

      Any stock in Perth?

      • Nope. Mirrabooka is showing one, but when called they said they couldn't find it. I'm not driving halfway across town to take a punt for one.

    • +5

For those wondering i have just called all Brisbane stores which have none in stock and the Toowomba store at 12:57 PM has 2 left in stock which they wont hold, deliver or take over the phone payment for haha.

    • not really a deal, definitely less than 10 of these I'd say. But good find OP and thanks for the heads up.

    • way too cheap!!! real bargain, but I guess you wont find it anywhere now.

    • At this rate, they'll be giving them away when you order a Pizza.

I've got one of these - at $450 they were a bargain. This price is a no-brainer. If there was a local store with them at this price, I'd nab another two for a immersive gaming rig.

    • Dangg

    • It's like watching a unicorn grazing on a couple of filing units…so majestic.

    • Any way to check stock online or have to call your local with the PN?

      • Yep. I just replied to a comment above. I called and the lady (super nice) checked other stores and said there were none left. And that I was like the 10th person to call her lol Asked if I saw something on the Internet :)

    • +3

I missed a memo…since when did Kmart start selling Xiaomi stuff ?!?!??

      • there was another deal like this last year… same screens on 'clearance'…

    • Mods will let this run for hours because of the site traffic generated

    • +1

not really a deal if only 1 person grabbed it as a clearance item?

posts like this don't really help anyone

    • Can I price match my $450 Airport West Kmart one? Haha

Not enough stock to be a bargain, it's just creating hysteria for no reason.

EDIT: Good, moved to a forum topic. Stupid unobtainable 'deals' do not belong on the front page. Leave hysteria for politicians and media personalities, and not bargain hunters.

        • +1

          This is a deal.

          Luck or not

          • -1

            @BShandy23:

            This is a deal.

Not according to the posting rules

            • @jv: "As a general guide, deals with less than 10 items in stock at the time of submission may be unpublished"

Wether an item has more than 10 in stock, or less than 10 in stock it is still a deal, which is why it is referred to as a deal on in ozb 'posting rules'

In regards to wether it should or should not be posted is another matter. As for usage of the term "deal" , Stock levels doesn't determine such

              • @BShandy23:

                it is still a deal

Not if you can't purchase it, and lots of people waste time travelling to their local store when there is pretty much no chance of getting any stock.

Might as well post a raffle as a deal then…

              BX 55 - 2,4
              CX 55 - 2,7.

The 55 CX is "on sale" for 2995 in store now but you can do better by showing the ozbargain lowest prices for the TV you are interested in buying.

If you have access to gift cards at 5% you can save another hundred or so off those prices.

              • @HelpWanted: Well I already purchased the BX 65 for the $2600 that I posted the deal for. Very happy, they didn't have any new ones anywhere near me, so it wasn't even an option. As for the CX I was offered one for $3400, but I didn't feel like spending an extra $800 for a tv that is almost identical.

As for it being ex display I made sure I checked before purchase and it had zero burn in. Plus I'm confident in the rtings testing of OLEDs. Their test TVs have now seen about 5000 hrs of use with no drop in brightness or burn in when watching varied content.

      • +1

a deal is a deal! more information is better than no information.

        • But it is not a deal though, it is a product mark down of a handful of boxes near expiry at a single store.

It would be a good start. It's been sooooo long since we've seen a deal from you. People always complain there aren't enough local deals.

    • what! I just bought these from my woolies in southbank, melb square (worst store ever) for $22. I didn't even realise the base price for goods varied from different stores. Melb square is the worst, never discount their goods, every other woolies by 7pm most their baked goods are reduced.

Got there no stock. Staff apologised but was not offerred any solution. Didn't want to give up, I called around and found Greenslopes had 5 but the price is $60. Called Fairfield back asking if Greenslopes would price match. Fairfield said yes. On that basis, called Greenslopes again and was successful in securing one unit at $30 definitely a bargain at this price.

  • Merged from Pioneer DMH-Z5350BT Android Auto/Apple Car Play Head Unit $459 @ Supercheap Auto
    Go to Deal

Pretty good price for an excellent head unit.

I've had this one installed in my car for the last 6 months and it works really well. Wired Apple Car Play/Android Auto, but I don't mind the cable.

Clean looking front on it with no buttons looks very modern and I haven't had an issue using the +/- volume buttons as opposed to a physical knob.

Screen is very good quality and capacitative, which is a must over resistive (yuck).

Meguiar's Ultimate Compound on special too - love this stuff to rejuvenate paint in conjunction with a electric polisher: https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/meguiars-meguiars-ultima…

    • How does screen perform under Sun ?

      • I find it still pretty visible in full sun, not sure how it compares to other brands, haven't had the ability to compare.

    • Bought at release about this time last year. been great however it seems to be overheating on me…
It'll turn on all good, work for weeks, then randomly it'll turn on with the touchscreen being unresponsive, then the next startup will be a pure black screen (fan still running).

This happened when I first put it in a couple times then stopped, only now that we're getting hot weather again it's started to happen frequently, I now think it may be overheating so I'll pull it back out, make sure no cables are blocking the fan at the back and if not might just have a faulty unit.

I emailed Pioneer but they said just "shake your ISO Harness and make sure everything's plugged in" after I told them I've put a multimeter on it and it's getting correct power. Besides if it was a wiring issue the screen wouldn't even be displaying before it became unresponsive haha.

If anyone has any ideas I'd love to know, otherwise yeah I'll just make sure it has as much breathing room. (installed in a 07 HR 350z, so much like the engine bay there's minimal space behind the facia

      • Yeah that could be overheating. I wonder if you check it's not blocked and if Pioneer won't do anything whether installing (MacGuyvering) an additional PC cooling fan for example behind the dash to distribute hot air (if it's building up around the unit). Have it turn on with switched power for example.

I've not had any of the issues you mentioned but perhaps I've got more space behind my dash for airflow?

        • Yeah the manual said it needed a lot of ventilation space which I for sure dont have.
And yeah good idea of have a couple spare 80mm 12v fans, might 3D print a little mount to help extract any heat if that's the case.

It'd make sense though that we've had a few hotter days recently and it's become more frequent

    • Did you have to get an adapter plate and if so, which brand, please (and do you recommend it)?

      • No, my car is 2001 Camry so it's double din by default. Each car is different - check the Aerpro site to see what adaptors/fascia kits you'll need.

You'll also need ISO adaptors if you don't want to solder - you'll need two - Car brand to ISO then ISO to Pioneer.

May need additional harnesses if you have steering wheel controls too, but I didn't need that as I don't have any. Again check Aerpro for what you need.

        • Thanks. When I was last looking (around Christmas) I found the adapters, etc. I'd need, but no good seeing as no stock of the Pioneer 😒

    • Not available at any stores in VIC or online

      • I wonder if you can ask another competitor store to price match?

    • Damn - out of stock around me :( I've been waiting for ages for this to go on special.

    • OP- did you retain your steering wheel controls?

      • Don't have any in my car, but there are harnesses available if you do.

    • Anyone any idea if another company would price-match, despite SCA being OOS?

    • +1

Might do rain checks as it’s a catalogue item.

      • Nope - they don't. I phoned and asked. I then phoned my local and was told that one of the stores might sell me a display unit (which I've done and I'm collecting it in a bit), so you could try phone around.

      • +33

        Cool story.

      • What was the biggest difference between the two operating systems for you? What took the most getting used to?

        • +4

Comparing a Pixel 2XL to an iPhone 11 Pro:

Google Assistant is much better than Siri (voice recognition wise).

UI on iPhones is visually dated (hasn't changed much since inception).

I found the touch accuracy to be slightly worse on iPhones but that might just be me.

Apart from that they work pretty much the same way.

          • +2

Hardware & build quality is top notch. Not like the Pixels are in any way bad, but iPhones are still a cut above.

        • +2

I miss the ability to quickly dial someone by just starting to put their name into the dial pad. Also, unless you have a Mac, getting files on or off the iPhone in bulk is a ridiculous pita.

The reason android was ‘easier’ for me was because of the ability to go around anything.

Want to watch a movie or a tv show that isn’t on Netflix, there are ways to do that within a minute on android.

So on Apple, not being able to do these things was quite annoying at first. However, I have gotten used to it now after some time on the iOS.

I feel like for a simple user, android and apple is very similar. With android, you will always have a sort of unfinished and raw feel to the experience.

My main reasons behind an iPhone were the good resale, long battery life and superior camera for practical usage.

        • Android phones stop getting updates much sooner than iPhones.

          • @Pornboy69er: Pixels receive updates the day they are released and are up-to-date for 4 years - so are Samsung devices and other large manufacturers. That is longer than Apple's "midrange" SE phones are supported.

Yeah I agree with this. I have been a long time user of both ecosystem. With Android you get a lot of configuration options and it is like an open book. But I keep finding myself researching on the best combination of apps, settings, etc and I don’t know where to stop. Then the endless obsession on synthetic performance and screen on time.

With Apple, I like how all the options I will ever need are nicely presented to me and I don’t have to worry about if I am on the best possible combination. Sure it does sound like sheep mentality (LOL) but I get to focus on my day and the phone (the tool) gets me to it.

          • +1

@Davesday: I just got my first iphone, only had an ipod touch a decade ago… Mostly I miss the back button and being able to easily minimise the keyboard. Setting the weather app to the BOM one. And spotify doesnt work with siri.

          • @Davesday: The simplicity of my Samsung Galaxy feels like an iPhone-esque interface in many ways. Everything from the notification shade, to the settings app, to the photo gallery. It's become even simpler with One UI 3.0.

I like the mass of extra options Android give. Have enjoyed YouTube ad-free for the past year with YouTube Vanced, and been able to skip promotional segments with the built-in SponsorBlock. Saved me many hours.

        • +3

As someone who has both OSs and likes both… some things are just completely unintuitive or take an extra step on iOS. I can hardly think of anything that is less intuitive than iOS on the latest versions of Android.

          • @[Deactivated]: Assuming that the oneplus 9 pro comes with snapdragon. Its almost a no brainer to pick that over the s21u

        • Good idea. My phone is still covered under costco’s 90 day money back policy.

        • OnePlus as a company sucks, their direction is poor as they now rebrand phones without changes from Oppo and they no longer stick to their original philosophy. Plus the Nord was plagued with bugs and their flagships don't do anything interesting anymore. Why would you buy a phone without an Australia warranty, as well? With an absolutely shocking service department?

      • +4

I've been iPhone user for many years. Then recently moved to Huawei 2 years ago. I love the phone and thinking to stick with Android forever. But every single time I pick up an iPhone I always fell in love with its iOS design & interface. It just looks so good!

But then I look at the price tag, and wonder if its worth my money… probably not, most likely just gonna buy the next Google Pixel

        • Yep I hear you. I’m hanging onto an old iPhone 7+. Can’t justify the regular upgrades anymore at the current price points. Will likely switch to android when the time comes.

          • @Slo20: If you switch this year, look out for the S20 FE 5G for around $700 using the JB Telstra plan loophole. Or the Pixel 5 (less powerful) around $700, which was the price after getting Officeworks to pricematch Telstra. I own the FE and my mother has the Pixel, both are great.

There is also a chance there will be a new S21 FE 5G this year.

Hint: negotiate with people on classifieds and fb/gumtree, as a lot of people are offloading them above 10% (especially for smaller denominations and especially for Harvey Norman - you can use unlimited at checkout). • +1

@MrFizz: Because they think their choice is superior hence everyone who isn’t agree with them by buying into apple ecosystem is inferior. And they think all apple users are stupid because they are spending so much money for a product that is inferior.

And here what tick them off, despite their claim of apple products being inferior and over price, but yet apple revenue keep growing and their product keep selling well. This frustrated them so much, so every time they see post on apple products they itched to lashed it out.

I know people who works on top tier tech companies and they all being issued with latest macbook pro, I know designers who bought latest imac pro for more than $10k. I don’t own any of these products, but I’m pretty sure those people and companies who makes their decision to invest into apple ecosystem must have a reason to it. Who am I to say they should do otherwise.

Now back to android/iphone debate, I’m also back and forth between android and iphone. Currently I’m with iphone, and there is reason to it, technical, definitely not buying iphone to show off or because I have too much money. I know there is cheaper android phone, I’m aware of it, but still my decision is for iphone, I don’t care if those apple hater love their android, good for them, it’s their money and I don’t judge how they should spend it.

You do realise that is because tech illiterate people keep buying iPhones anually at sky-high prices that jump up each year, far above their production cost? That is the exact thing people who comment are attempting to counter. Most people who don't understand the pricing are only going to use it for calls, emails, web browsing, photos, which can all be done fast by a Pixel 5 at $700 on sale. It has the same capability, but less of the aesthetic wow factor people are too attracted to.

          • +4

@BargainSnatcher: Not really jealousy, but more judgement as this is a bargain site, and buying the most expensive product of a category will always be seen as wasting money right? No matter the personal value.

            • +2

@onlinepred: Judgement for sure.. but I don't think its because buying expensive products is seen as wasting money. Not many will judge you for buying Dyson/Bose products over other cheaper brands. Also, the term iSheep and the likes does not just apply in bargain forum.

I reckon its just a general brand rivalry. And Samsung also to blame for adding fuel to the fire by making ads that basically mock Apple users. And I think likewise, Apple have done similar in the past against Microsoft. Similar rivalry in Sony vs XBox.. though not really seen here as its not as divisive

              • @John: No not really, even dyson and bose are on the upper mid range of products, the iPhones of that would be even more. For me I would love to buy an iPhone, but it literally is too much money to spend on a phone in my books. It's just a phone man.

If you want a new car, do you just go straight to a Bugatti? Rolls Royce?

                • +1

@onlinepred: There are phones that are more expensive out there than iPhones.

                  • @Scrobo: Yes there will always be something more expensive, mostly a gold plated iPhone, or a diamond encrusted iPhone…..

            • +7

@onlinepred: This is a bargain site but I think it's more about sharing a cheap price on <x> product. Androids aren't iPhone and those who buy them aren't going to be interested in being told to buy Android - most iPhone users know Android exists and don't want it for whatever reason.

I've seen tonnes of things massively upvoted here that I don't think are good value (Voss water, expensive fans, expensive cars, etc.). But just because those things aren't a good deal to me obviously they are for someone else.

I have switched back and forth between iPhone / Android over the years and I'm currently on an iPhone because I don't really use my phone much and it takes good photos / videos which is the most useful feature of a phone for me.

              • @chiefbodge: Very well put.

              • +1

                @chiefbodge:

most iPhone users know Android exists and don't want it for whatever reason.

Most common reasons are: misconceptions about present day Android as opposed to Android in its early forms. And misconceptions about the quality of more expensive products, and how well they function. They are capable of so much more, yet users never need to explore those features if they don't want to. The UI, much like the design of Google websites, are now built to cater to everyone, and there are often accessibility inclusions that aren't found on iOS. Example is very large buttons on the home screen of Galaxy devices, perfect for the elderly.

I'm currently on an iPhone because I don't really use my phone much and it takes good photos / videos which is the most useful feature of a phone for me.

This totally contradicts your argument. User surveys from the likes of MKBHD show the Pixel and Galaxy take much more pleasing photos to the eye, at a lower price. You don't need to use the power user features if you don't want to.

            • @onlinepred: Yeah I think it's mostly this, iPhones are not really a "bargain". Same applies to top dollar Samsung or OnePlus phones, but they don't get posted as much

          • +1

            @BargainSnatcher: Don't be like pred.

        • There are a few products that always attracts shitty people who prefer another product over it and they always flock spewing their BS, imagine not being a fan of a product and wasting your time on a deal website talking shit about it.

      • Bit like the B28 and NFC moaners that appear every time a budget phone for under $200 is posted.

        • They are legitimate concerns. Too many consumers aren't aware of these discrepancies that determine whether a phone can be used in the country, or be used for Google Pay.

      • Even if the Android rant there are Android fanboys in the comment section…

Are these grey imports? Looks like 12 month warranty is through them only? There is an icon saying "locally sourced" whatever that means

      • "Never used and come with their full Australian Manufacturer's Warranty."

        • "what's in the box:

          Your Device
Fully functioning and ready for use out of the box! This device went through our 72-Point Check to ensure that it's in its peak performance when it arrives to you.

          Cable
The device comes with a compatible USB charging and sync cable

          Box & Manual
Only selected devices come with their original boxes and manuals. If they're not available, your device will be packaged using our OzMobiles box."

Sounds like an open box / ex demo to me. Also, looks like you have to claim warranty through them which is another warning sign

    • Any case/cover recommendations?

    • Does JBHifi price match too and do you reckon you could get this phone as well similar to the deal they have going for Samsung S21

    • +3

Sure android allows more customisation and you can set your default apps for various purposes which is great, but the dealbreaker is that many of the apps I rely on daily are total garbage on android, either lacking basic features, crashing randomly or not working at all. I’ll choose a reliable and more expensive walled garden over a cheaper but unreliable open world any day.

      • I’ll choose a reliable and more expensive walled garden over a cheaper but unreliable open world any day.

Sure you aren't talking about socialism vs capitalism?

        • haha in an ideal sense perhaps. Or Aus healthcare vs US healthcare.

      • I'm fine with using both platforms myself, but my experience in comparing iOS and Android apps over the years has led me to think that developers just seem to put more effort into the iOS versions of their apps. I'm not sure if that's due to factors like the app guidelines, frameworks, support/debug tools, lesser fragmentation in the Apple ecosystem or an economical decision. Maybe more developer time is spent on iOS apps since they tend to be more profitable? I can only really make guesses.

Whatever it is, that's the main thing that's keeping me on iOS currently, namely quality of apps.

        • +4

As a native iOS / Android developer I agree and your guesses are pretty spot on. These are my main reasons for why iOS apps end up more polished:

          • Targeting fewer devices with fewer iOS versions (customer iOS devices are way more up to date as a general rule). Android devices can have any size screen size, density and ratio which makes optimising the UI a pain.
          • If it's a paid app then you will get far more sales on iOS (by an order of magnitude generally) so it makes sense to spend the money where the revenue comes from.
          • iOS users not only expect but demand a higher quality app experience.
          • Most developers/designs are accountable to someone higher up, usually the boss is using an iPhone so you can't get away with taking shortcuts on iOS. This has also been my experience with my clients, they tend to always see Android as an afterthought because they tend to be iPhone users themselves. This also extends to hiring, because management tend to use iPhones themselves they seem happy to spend more money on getting experienced and talented iPhone devs and cheap out on the Android devs.
          • I personally find Apple's development tools and frameworks a bit more conducive to creating good UI experiences.
    • Great deal. Is there any way to use this to somehow get a pacific blue version?

Just purchased an M1 Macbook air with 8core GPU and 512GB - for less money than the cost of the iPhone. Phone prices across the board Apple and Android have gotten out of hand. Hopefully, we see a downward movement in prices soon, I would move to iPhone from Android, may as well with the Mac, but these prices are eye-watering, just have to keep using my OP 7Pro for a few more years I think.

But yes, upvoted because this is a deal.

      • It generally costs more to pack similar performance into a much much smaller product. I'm not surprised that the premium phones cost as much or more than Apple's lower end notebooks. Flagship Android phones as you say are also well over a grand.

How did you get that Air for less than $1759? It's currently $1949.

      • +1

The M1 Macs are pretty damn good value for money while flagship phone prices, whether Android or iOS, have been a joke these last couple years.

    • Went to the Officeworks store and they said there is no stock at the warehouse so cannot make order.
Called OW number 1300633423. Part number is not shown on Ozmobiles website so price match is rejected.

        • Resolution 828 x 1792 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio (~326 ppi density)
          etc
    • Officeworks should buy the remaining 2 and resell them at full price. :p

    • Thanks op. I priced matched it at OW.
      Great buy.

      • Happy I’ve helped one! :)

      • Do you know if they are only accepting price match for the Graphite colour?

        • read comment above "I tried politely asking at officeworks and they refused, saying it was only for the colour advertised. Which is pretty fair in my opinion, sorry I can't help"

    • Thanks OP! Managed to get it price matched at OW too, super happy :)

      • Do you walk in OW to price match?

      • Do you know if they are only accepting price match for the Graphite colour?

        • I think an earlier comment said that it was only Graphite, but that was the colour I wanted so I didn’t actually ask. They might be happy to though, sometimes just depends on the worker you get at OW :)

Last time I felt some excitement about iPhone was iPhone 6.
Since then, I don't feel any excitement about iPhone, even with all the bells and whistles.
it's not so much about the price either. Even if Apple is selling latest flagship iPhone for $800, I would not buy it.

      Android phones are slightly better.

Great arts and crafts. Takes many hours to actually build which is half the value already. Has lots of potential to keep you engaged in the mini games.

            Well worth the $20

        • That's why I haven't picked them up before, but for $20 I feel like I could do that, throw them out and not feel like I got ripped off. At RRP I'd have had to find somewhere to store them to not use them :P

Not so much for other Switch games, it also includes software designed to work with them. • Merged from SteelSeries 64626 Apex Pro Omnipoint Effect Mechanical Gaming Keyboard $261.97 @ Amazon + $260 Harris Technology Amazon (4 Left)
    Go to Deal

Harris Technology have it at $260 but only have 4 in stock so I have posted the Amazon Price at the front.
Amazon link for when Harris Technology runs out: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07SVJJCP3/ref=ox_sc_ac…
CamelCamelCamel confirms this is a historical best price ever at $260. These have been floating around $330AUD with the best price other than Umart at $289 delivered being $319 on staticice.
With the Australian dollar much higher, the Steelseries Apex Pro Omnipoint Mechanical Keyboard is at its cheapest price ever, $19 cheaper than the previous best ever Umart $279 deal that didn't include delivery so was really $289. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/602965

Steelseries have manufactured their own OmniPoint Hall Effect Adjustable Switch much superior to the likes of CherryMX and other Mechanical Competitors. Durability and typing feel is greatly improved. If you don't know why this keyboard is great here is my favourite keyboard reviewer on Youtube Chyrosran22 gave it a glowing review and said it was better than his previous favorite modern keyboard the Wooting One: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfz9TgeZ9m0
Also it has a LCD screen to play gifs and display relevant information on the keyboard!

    • What store?

    • That's amazing. Literally $100 cheaper than it should be. Why do they do these sorts of insane deals? They could offload it on eBay for $100 with no effort.

      • Store probably couldn’t do it but a staff member could buy them all out and resell for a neat profit

    • That is a crazy good price!

          Call OW.

          • @Twix: Trying to they ain’t answering

          • @Twix: Since it is clearance, cant see the stock is what I was told.

            • @BarginGrabber: It's not true what they've told you, I was at a OW store looking for a clearance item and they were able to check stock levels.

    • Dang, guessing no other stores is like this?

      • If stores didn't set it to automatically disconnect you….We'd be able to find out.

    • When it was reduced to $139 back in May last year (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/535774) it was already hard enough to find stock, although I did managed to find one. I seriously doubt there are any stock out there.

  • Merged from [VIC] Wacaco Minipresso NS/CA Portable Espresso Machine $25 in-Store @ ALDI (Central West)
    Go to Deal

Saw this at ALDI Central West in Braybrook VIC for $25 and grabbed myself one. Didn't take a photo of the ticket in store (slipped my mind). Cheapest from ozbargain was posted on the 19th here for $48.50:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/611573

Here's another link of a close-up of my receipt from Central West showing it as $25.00. http://imgur.com/gallery/JZz8Xgo

Found in the locked window cabinet, there was 2 left after this and both the CA and NS is available. No ticket was available for the GR version. Not sure if availble at other Aldi's.

    • +1

I have this. Bit of work but makes a "italian thumb to pointer&middle finger" espresso

    • -1

Does anyone know if this is available elsewhere in Melbourne's West?

    • Note: This is the model prior to the release of the Nanopresso.

I can only speak with the newer product, but it’s a great on-the-go espresso device - but I only ever use mine with the double basket (double shot expansion kit).

Hasn’t had that many outings since the pandemic hit - not as much travel going on! 😞

    • +3

I had to look up what NS/CA/GR meant.

      NS = Nespresso capsules
      CA = Caffitaly system capsules
      GR = Ground coffee

    • +1

I have one. It requires a bit more pressure/squeezing than the Nanopresso but at least you don’t need a seperate attachment for Nespresso capsules. Mine ‘exploded’ after my 10th or so perfect shot of Nespresso when I kept squeezing and nothing came out, the manufacturer sent me a replacement part without any hassle. It’s great for camping trips or road trips but it does require hot water to start of with (ie the thing itself doesn’t heat up your water, some other much more expensive models do).

    • I have the CA model, it warped out of round after using it half a dozen times, and now it does not build any pressure.
Disappointed, as it was good for the 5 or so coffees it made me.

Bought a refurb from PC Byte last year. No issues so far. Perfect for a budget work monitor at this price

    • +2

      🤔

Is Xiaomi big enough in Australia that they actually have refurbishment centers, like Samsung, Dell and Apple does?

I wonder if it's just a customer returned product, store employee just give a clean with alcohol wipes and repacked and sold as refurb with 6 months less warranty.

Also appears that they have only a few in stock:
"You ask for 6.0 products but only 5.0 is available"

      • +1

I’d say the majority of “refurb” stock in retail is just customer returns for minor issues or change of mind.

Dead pixels are a no from me, but if there’s a small mark on the case I’d save $50+ & get it.

Be careful with Bata. I had a pair of boots brand new and the PU sole basically crumbled to pieces on the first wear.

When I asked the retailer about it they pushed me to Bata. When I contacted Bata, they claimed they never made the boot despite bring a Bata boot. And refused to even look into the fault.

Will never buy from Bata again after that incident.

      • If you have a receipt then the seller needs to entertain your request. They can't just push you to the manufacturer.

        • The business has since gone bust (the boot was bought in 2003/2004), and Bata has been blacklisted to me as a poor quality manufacturer, and even poorer customer service.

      Evaporative Cooler $15

Any good deals on "Evaporative Warmers" for Melbourne?

      • +3

I think they're sold under 'kettle' at most shops.

    • +3

A lot of people don't understand evap coolers. They work great in low humidity which is what they're meant for. I had a portable one out west (low humidity/high heat) and it was perfect on hot nights. They'd work well in Melb. on the low humidity hot days. Not every day is humid.

      • Agree! Fantastic for dry heat. Would do SFA in Brisbane, but perfect for Melbourne.

      • +1

Dry heat is the best. Not sure why you'd want to ruin it with humidity.

  • Merged from [SA]Smart Home Clearance (Philips Hue, Arlo, Swann CCTV, Yale, Lockly & Samsung Smart Locks & More) @ Bunnings Adelaide Airport
    Go to Deal

    Hi All
Was in Bunnings Adelaide Airport tonight and came across 2 entire carts of clearance smart home lights security cameras door locks etc lots of stock all marked down

    highlights:

    Hue 2m Shape Light $79
    Hue 5m Shape Light $299
    Hue Extension Light $19
    Yale Smart Lock $249
    Arlo Pro 2 $179
    Samsing Smart IoT Door Lock
    Swann 4K Ultra HD 8ch NVR +4camers
and heaps more. they had 2 trolleys like this and lots of stock on there.

I grabbed 2 Philips Hue Filament bulbs for $35 instead of $44

Think this is local to Adelaide Airport Store only but i could be wrong. Everything on the 2 carts is marked down for clearance so first come first serve. I think they had to get rid of this stock because they needed room in the lockup cages for newer stock etc

Enjoy all Sharing is caring ;)

    • How much was the 5m shape light? $299 is not correct.

  • Merged from Tin Signs from Valvoline, Penrite, Tridon, Ryco Filters & Many More $0 In-Store @ Supercheap Auto
    Go to Deal

First, PLEASE do not call the stores harassing them about free tin signs. It's not an official deal or anything (in fact it's kind of a secret). It's at each stores discretion. If you want to ask for a tin sign, at least go in there and buy something and support the store. Not every store still has them. I didn't really bother to survey how many were floating around seeing as I already have more than I could ever possibly know what to do with. Remember that the stores (and especially the managers) are EXTREMELY busy and don't have time for calls about free tin signs. If you get told no, MOVE ON.

Please consider this more as a ''nice to have'' and a ''bonus''. Do not call the stores sea gulling. If you do, it won't be long before they get tired of me posting stuff like this on OzBargain and if the big bosses request me to stop posting here regarding SCA, then I will have to stop. Plain and simple.

Just when you do your weekend shop there kindly ask if they have any more of those Valvoline and other tin signs that they were giving away with the oil purchases a while back.

You can get all different types. I didn't bother to take pictures of all the different types. There were many many more. I would estimate that there are over 10 different types (although I haven't even looked at them yet to be honest). I do remember the Ryco Filters one cause I thought ''that's cool''. They were cool enough that my family already sea gulled through my boxes of them and taxed a couple dozen LOL.

    Enjoy!

    • +19

Got it - Call around first thing in the morning.

    • +1

      LOL

I have been reported 3 times for insufficient quantity already. I got so many of them that I decided to post it on OzBargain cause I got bored of collecting them and tired arms from carrying boxes full of them. They are out there.

      • What do you do with them?

        • -3

Well I only just got them yesterday.

But I just found out there are 8 different ones to collect. There's Bosch, Bendix, Ryco, Nulon, Castrol, Tridon, Valvoline & Penrite.

I'd probably sell them as a packs of 8 I would suppose. Not sure yet.

          • +5

@[Deactivated]: Do the "big bosses" know that you on-sell promotional products?

          • +3

@[Deactivated]: Or, you could use the Classifieds forum and offer them for free to fellow OzBargainers as they were originally intended. You could request the cost of postage as compensation and put a cap on how many you’ll give to each person. Just an option.

    • From memory, they were originally free if you spent over $50 on their products… (I think)…

    • +3

Where in the engine do these go?

      • +6

Swap out number plates. Drive to petrol station…

      • +1

They don’t go in the engine, they’re a classy way of covering rust holes…

        • +4

I thought that’s what gaffer tape was for? For years my Dad called them ‘racing stripes’ and I believed him. Although, I did wonder why fancy painted stripes went the length of racing cars and ours always seemed to go sideways…

          • @Chazzozz: Gaffer tape is the normal way, signs and old number plates are the classy way.

If you want to get ultra classy you actually cut the rust out, then put the sign/plate on the inner side of the panel, and then fill it with a layer of clear epoxy resin to create a nice level surface that won’t hold mud.

    • +2

Would love some of these but I bet my local either has none left or doesn’t want to give them away.

    • Can I get a box-trailer of them?

    • Aren’t these sign could be worth a lot of money to collectors and in production of movies/shows say 50 years time?

    • Bulk reports but still up haha

  • -2

    Hi guys.

First. Thanks to everyone for not calling stores and being redhot with it.

There's heaps out there if you care to look around abit.

I'm still seeing how mine go amongst family and friends before I decide what happens with the rest. A big part of why I do what I do is because I cash my entire extended family and friends far and wide with bargains galore and freebies. It's become tradition at mine that my family will rummage through my stock after I do my rounds. Then what is left at the end gets sold or given back to managers as gifts (many within the company are often chasing things that weren't available at their store or they missed).

    • Tried a couple of Sydney stores, they said they were cleared out by somebody yesterday who took the lot :(

      • I left most of them behind because I was more concerned with fitting other freebies in my car without having to go back to base again.

That's why I posted it here. I wouldn't have posted it if I wanted to or had taken them all.

I prefer the Aldi ones. The capsules are half the price and the coffee tastes twice as good…

      • +1

Correct, about the half price, as for taste thats personal. at least that means you wont be brodening this one.

This does come with pods - I read that was 16 (but cant confirm) So for 16 free pods and $18 net cash back its rather cheap.

        • as for taste thats personal.

I can only speak for myself…

So for 16 free pods and $18 net cash back its rather cheap.

Aldi ones are $5.99 for 16. How much to these ones normally cost?

      • The Aldi ones taste awful imo. I'll happily drink coffee brewed with Aldi ground coffee, but coffee made in those expressi machines with aldi capsules is something else completely.

    • There don't seem to be many good reviews on that page.

            • @jv: Okay. Sorry I was vague with my original post… I couldn't find any throughout SA and inner Melbourne.

    • no stock and if any <10 available

    • This is their Vertuo line, you are stuck using their pods only. Not that it's a bad thing, I have a Creatista Plus and prefer the original Nespresso pods.
However, the Vertuo line has been panned left right and centre. Leaking is the main complaints.
The machines just aren't as solidly built as their original line. Get yourself the original line that's been tried and proven.

      • +2

Who cares, you can make 18 profit. And you can sell it brand new for another 40 at least

      • Yes mine leaked from around the pod seal and coffee would run out the back. Tried cleaning it, stretching the wires, descale and no luck. Nespresso were hopeless via email but after i rang them i got it sent back, repaired and returned. Meanwhile i had to buy another unit as i didnt want to drink instant coffee for a month.

    • No stock in Sydney

    • No stock within 100km. However, sometime you have to go to the store. Their system is not very accurate sometimes

    • I got this one https://www.bigw.com.au/product/delonghi-nespresso-vertuoplu… $62, should be eligible for the $100 cash back too

      • That comes with $80 cashback

        • Thanks for confirming

    • Does it come with the frother? Its $100 RRP by itself. You could just keep that , ditch the main unit and come out ahead.
