Top Deals, Comments, Forum Posts, Members of The Month and Other Stats for January 2016

January to March tends to be our slower period which is reflective in the stats for this month. Noticably missing this month are Dick Smith deals. Woolworths was the top posted store this month with 93 deals. Dick Smith had only 20.

We mentioned last month that we are now on Instagram. I'm actually finding a good amount of deals (mostly food related) & competitions posted only on retailers Instagram pages, for example Doughnut Time. Might be something to check out.

We are also thinking of certain tasks that users do and how we can make that more useful by creating pages. The first was the pizza coupon page so you can quickly find the best pizza deals. We've now added a Hotel Coupon Page to make booking a hotel a lot easier. Just have to figure out how to integrate those 2 pages into OzBargain. You may have also noted store pages have been redesigned so active deals & coupons are shown first with expired deals shown last. This can help with store pages that have loads of active and expired deals mixed in with each other.

Keen observers may have seen another site in our footer, CheapCheapLah. We've wanted to launch in Singapore for a few years but tried out New Zealand as a test. ChoiceCheapies is over a year old now and has a reasonably active community posting deals. CCL is in a very beta stage atm but feel free to check it out. Scotty will have more to say about it in the future.

Site Updates of Interest (Not a full list)

  • Changed wording of P-plate tooltip to 'Deal Posted Within 2 Weeks After 1st Deal' and 'Deal Posted Within 6 Weeks After 1st Deal'
  • When checking comp url dupes, check against comps that are still open.
  • Remove 'no price' warning if 'free' or euro symbol is in title. (pound symbol already checked)
  • When highlighting prices in titles, match pound sign (£) and euro sign (€)
  • Add archive/all-comments mode for nodes with more than one page of comments . (e.g. This forum topic, Click comments tab for archive view
  • Power user editing lock changed from 10 mins to 5 mins (This change is part of the plan to delaying the Twitter feed so we Tweet out better titles and no dupes.)
  • Reduced font size for vote box if count >= 1000 (e.g. Google Storage Deal)
