Damn, muscled out of the top commenter spot by queer_dog_geyfrog :(

    • +2

Muscled out? You were blown out of the water on that vote count. A lot to be said about the quality of contributions by frog @ 0.17 k:d :D

      • I admit he has a higher comment count, but my average vote count is six times higher, and I have three times as many comments with 5+ votes. My numbers are even more impressive compared to queer_dog's when you average out those scores per comment. I'm actually more worried about tshow, who has an average vote count three times my own, and has over twice as many 5+ comments, even though we've both made about the same number of comment per day. Pegax is even more worrying. There's some stiff competition this season on OZB.

      • KD lower than a certain figure (eg 0.30 or 0.25) should automatically disqualify the user.

        • -1

I think so. Some people just post nonsense just to get on the top commenters list. If there was a cut off, it might stop people, but it may also have the opposite affect and cause them to post more thinking they didn't do enough spam commenting last month…

I dont mind them leaving it as is, cause it good to see who is making bulk comments that are valuable and who is making bulk comments that are basically just space fillers.

  • I was very surprised how many votes my comment got, thanks all! I will happily concede the win to @Thefong though I remember laughing out loud at the time!

  • +4

gnv9! Successfully keeping me entering competitions on a daily basis since 2015, a legend.

    • How many have you won over the last five years?

      • +1

Just checked and I've marked 46 as won so far, I wouldn't have marked them all at the beginning as I hadn't figured out you could do that for a while (along with setting reminders!)

  • will I ever make these stats?

  • +1

Just here for the K:D stats. 🤣

    • +2

Same! Gey Frog top the comments with a k:d of 0.17 over 900+ comments. 😂🤣

    • +2

      Doing pretty well for yourself!

      • +2

It's not too bad. I rate it at a hybrid Camry.

I intend to take up the $80k investment vehicle position.

Hey guys when are OzBargain going to pay contributors for posting deals ?
Maybe just a few dollars for every deal that makes the front page ?

    • Probably when you start paying a membership to use this site.

      • I'm not opposed to that. This site profits from the good nature of strangers. I've been around for a bit now and I just think they deserve a bit of thanks.

        • Members of the month get handed $100 normally.

          • @Clear: That's awesome. Theres clearly a lot of money going to charity which is great but this site is nothing without the good folks who post all the deals. This doesn't affect me at all but it's probably a lot of cash and not a conversation OzBargain want to have.

            • +3

@Tasmaniac: I think it's better when people post deals without the expectation of monetary rewards as the quality of deals would decrease as people try to earn more $$$.

              • @Clear: Well there wasn't anything about revenue in the transparency report so that's not very transparent is it. Good for them, I hope they're making a profit.

                • @Tasmaniac: Do you mean ordinary users posting deals? There's no way of truly knowing if people are profiting from their posts.

                  • @Clear: I mean OzBargain revenue. Ad revenue. Who's paying the staff and what kind of agreements are in place ?
Anyway I'm just playing devil's advocate but I think it's an interesting discussion.

                    • +2

@Tasmaniac: OzBargain have always been transparent on how they make money, but I don't think they should disclose how much they actually make. They're not a publicly listed company.

                      • @Clear: I agree. As long as they don't take posters for granted then it's all good. Probably couldn't sustain crazy returns in this kind of market anyways.

                        • +1

@Tasmaniac: The internet is run by affiliate marketing. That review you looked at? Those sites comparing different products? They're all taking advantage of affiliate marketing to track your purchases and make money off you. There's a lot of money to be made in the business.

  • Based on stats each month I'm basically a top 10 poster by number of deals posted and how many front page. Doesn't feel like it though… I guess I don't get 100+ votes often.
